The Carrick-Buchanan family has owned Corsewall Estate for over 200 years. When we (Angus and Kate), moved to Corsewall House in 2002, we set about renovating a number of properties including this pretty wing of the Corsewall House so we could provide luxury, high-end holiday accommodation.
Kate Carrick-Buchanan purchased this House in 1800
Why Kate Carrick-Buchanan chose Stranraer
The Carrick-Buchanan family has owned Corsewall Estate for over 200 years - it's one of a number of houses and buildings on the historic, 3000 acre Corsewall Estate.
What makes this House unique
We completed renovated Garden Cottage, the west wing of Corsewall House in 2012, creating a wonderful holiday house with 3 bedrooms and 3 en suite bathrooms and a house shower room - so it's ideal for families getting away together. The house is in a quiet and peaceful location in south west Scotland, far away from crowds, traffic jams and the stress of everyday life. It's surrounded by rolling countryside and is 3/4s of a mile from the sea.
Minimum age of primary renter:18
Max guests:6 (sleeps up to 6 adults)
Just what we wanted!
We wanted a break to relax, for long dog walks, to take in some beautiful scenery, and relax as a family in a homely cottage. This is exactly what we got at Corsewall, the estate had the walks and the scenery, and the cottage had everything we needed. The owners book even gave us all the directions just in case we needed it! Great place which will have great family memories and we are likely to return to in the future!
Thanks so much for taking the time to leave us a review and for your kind words.
We're so pleased you all enjoyed your stay at Garden Cottage and loved all the walks and scenery and the estate. We'd love to welcome you back again!
Family summer holiday
Well equipped cottage in a peaceful location. Easy access to local amenities. The owners were very friendly and encourage visitors to walk round the estate, which is stunning. We didn't manage to see any red squirrels, but that just means we will have to return one day
Many thanks indeed for your great review and for choosing Corsewall Estate Holiday Cottages - it was a pleasure welcoming you to Garden Cottage and I'm so sorry you didn't see any red squirrels this time - but as you say - you'll definitely have to come back to see them up to their tricks.
Garden cottage is a lovely spacious, clean and welcoming holiday property. We loved it,
A perfect ground floor en-suite bedroom that suited an elderly family member. The cottage had everything we could have wanted for our stay . Heavenly views , peace and quiet. I would recommend this wonderful property to anyone.
It was lovely having you all to stay in Garden Cottage - thank you so much for choosing one of our cottages and for taking the time to leave us a review. I do hope we'll welcome you back soon.
Fantastic property and area
Really good relaxing time. Garden Cottage is very well equipped and comfortable and the local beaches are a delight and hardly anyone on them - even in the sunshine! We really enjoyed walking on the Estate with our dog.
We’re so pleased you had a wonderfully relaxing time at Garden Cottage and enjoyed the empty sandy beaches and all the walks round the Estate with the dog. Thank you so much for coming to stay at Corsewall Estate and many thanks indeed for taking the time to leave us a review.
Stayed in Garden Cottage for 3 nights with my Husband, Mum, Dad and 2 Dogs. The Cottage is absolutely stunning with fantastic ammenities and some really lovely touches from the owners. The Estate has lovely walks and can take you down to the beach which was heavenly for our dogs. Kate and Angus the owners were so accommodating and couldn't have been more welcoming. Would most definitely recommend and looks forward to staying again here and at some of their other properties.
Thank you so much for choosing Garden Cottage and for your kind words. We're so pleased that the family and the dogs enjoyed the house, the gardens and the walks down to the sea. Come back soon!
Peace and tranquility
Lovely renovated wing of large country house. Owners live in the rest of the house, and could not be more helpful, but not in the least intrusive. House is very spacious, tastefully decorated, and extremely comfortable.
Large woodland grounds perfect for our dog to explore(pets are very welcome. Very nice touch of bread, jam, milk, tea etc, and superb chocolate brownies on our arrival), and even included some snacks for him which he woofed down
We stayed in the middle of winter and loved it, but can imagine would be magical in summer, especially for kids. , with lots to do, including zip wires, trampolines, and camping in the woods if so desired. They will even provide all the equipment you need. The owners positively encourage you to explore and nowhere is off limits.
Wildlife in abundance , saw lots of deer, rabbits, pheasant and awesome birds of prey. Owners have set up lots of bird boxes and feeding stations so a nature lovers delight. Beach and sea a 15 minute walk through the grounds.
We would heartily recommend this to anyone, a true delight, and Angus and Kate, the owners, cannot do enough to make sure you enjoy your stay. Perfect country get away.
Thank you both so much for coming to stay at Garden Cottage and taking the time to post such a detailed review - it's very much appreciated. We're so pleased you had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the great outdoors, the walks and the wildlife. Thank you for all your kind words, especially about my brownies! We do hope to welcome you back to Garden Cottage in the not too distant future.
Garden Cottage is the west wing of Corsewall House and is located in the heart of Corsewall Estate, surrounded by beautiful gardens, lawns and woods. It's a pretty walk through the estate to the beach and the shores of Loch Ryan.
Using Garden Cottage as a base, there are so many things to do and see in Dumfries & Galloway - mountain biking at one of the 7Stanes mountain biking centres; walking in the Galloway Forest Park; visiting the Cocoa Bean Chocolate Factory at Twynholm and the Cream O Galloway ice cream visitor centre near Gatehouse of Fleet or the Gem Rock Museum at Creetown. Culzean Castle and Country Park is just over an hour's drive up the scenic Ayrshire Coast - which is a great attraction to visit as there is so much to see and do.
If you're mad about golf, there are a number of excellent courses including Stranraer Golf Course, designed by James Braid, the Portpatrick Dunskey course at Portpatrick, the Wigtownshire Golf Course at Glenluce and Turnberry, which is under an hour's drive away. There are lots of pretty towns and villages to explore - from Portpatrick to Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright.
The Rhins of Galloway boasts many beautiful sandy beaches to take the children to - including Killantringan, Larbrax and Laird's Bay - very much like Cornwall but without all the crowds.
There are a number of pretty gardens to visit - from the Logan Botanical Gardens and Ardwell to Dunskey and Glenwhan to Castle Kennedy where you will see exotic plants in abundance and riots of colour.
The Mull of Galloway, with a working lighthouse, which you can visit and climb right to the top of the light tower, is a must see. It is Scotland's most southerly point and on clear days you can see England, Ireland and the Isle of Man.
