About Matthew Walter
This property has been in our family since 1968 and the house is the 2nd to stand on this location. The land was the largest of 4 lots which comprised a farm which dated back to the colonial era. The 18th century farmhouse is located on the road just down the hill from our house. Of the original 255 acre lot bought by our family, 89 acres are still ours, while most of the rest is now town land, donated by my parents and others as conservation land open for public recreational use. Most of our remaining land is now under conservation easement, with hiking and skiing trails open to the public connecting to trails on town land.

Great for fall foliage viewing
The rental space in this property is beautiful, comfortable, clean, and peaceful. As a family of six, we had plenty of space for family activities and the kitchen had everything we needed for cooking meals. The house is removed from the road so you don’t hear any traffic. We saw lots of birds, butterflies, and bears across the field and had beautiful views of the stars at night. The views are stunning. Local activities were available within 15-30 minutes including hiking and swimming. The only drawback was laundry was not available while we were there.
Thank you for your review. We get a lot of satisfaction out of knowing that other people appreciate the beauty of the place. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a bear there, so it seems that you got particularly lucky!
An enchanting woodland escape
We were two families with three kids between us, in town for a wedding. This house was perfectly appointed and modern, in a rustic dreamlike setting, with unparalleled views and the feeling of perfect seclusion in nature while in reality, a number of conveniences were just minutes away. We would love to return. What a find. Contact with the owner was easy and reassuring. Can't say enough to recommend this beautiful home.
Thank you so much for your great review! It really means a lot to me that guests appreciate the uniqueness of what we offer here.
quiet clean beautiful view
Lovely home with all the amenities you will need to enjoy your stay. Easy hiking near by with a surprise waterfall. The home is clean and comfortable. The backyard is so peaceful with a wonderful view.
Perfect long weekend getaway in the mountains
Beautiful property with amazing views! Great central location for day trips north the ski areas (like Lincoln) and south to Lake Winnipesaukee. Wood stove kept us toasty warm despite almost record setting low temps during our stay. Had a great time, and hope to come back again!
Thank you so much for your kind review. It was somewhat of a relief to know that all went well despite the brutal cold! We are always gratified to know that guests take away an appreciation of the beauty of our NH home.
Fantastic! (Not sure how else I could phrase it....)
Great stay in the quiet countryside in NH. The house is really fully equipped and very spacious and modern. We were only 3 persons, but the house would easily fit 7 persons. Fantastic view over the hills and one morning we got visited by a moose strolling across the field 50 yards from the house. We took a hike down nice trials down to a beautiful waterfall. The property is just minutes off the highway, but feels like staying in a remote mountain chalet.
When planning the next trip to NH, we will surely want to stay here again.
Property is located between White Mt. and Lakes region and is convenient to Newfound Lake, Squam Lake, Lake Winnipesaukee, Waterville, Tenny, Loon, Cannon and Franconia Notch. On or near the property you can: Fly kites or play frisbee in the large field. Pick wild berries in season. Observe wildlife. Hike on town-maintained walking trails to Rainbow Falls through conservation land donated by owner's family. Ski on back country ski trails recently built on the property. Hike up Plymouth Mt. which rises directly across the road. Mountain bike on miles of rural or primitive abandoned roads.
Closest swimming is 15 minutes to a Town Park on the Pemigewasset River where the current is slow, but there are many other local river swimming options as well as Wellington State Park beach on beautiful Newfound Lake. Many half day family hikes are within a short distance, or take on the big mountains such as the Franconia Range or Mt. Mooselauke, less that an hour away.
Other Activities: berry picking, bird watching
