Welcome to my home! My name is Christina, I'm Marcus mum and I'm a native of Rethymno. The streets of this beautiful small spot near the south corner of Europe, have always been home to me. Because I love traveling so much I have studied Tourism Administration, but since life is full of surprises, I have been working in the marketing department of a publishing company for over a decade, having the pleasure to cooperate with incredible, fun and talented people everyday. However, I remain an avid traveler at heart and I could not help getting involved with the hosting experience, since the best part of traveling is sharing. So, with great love and passion I have remodeled my childhood home to welcome you, the other travelers of the world, to my place. Should you choose to stay at The Downtown Pent, I will be more than ready to recommend nearby gems to eat or drink at, things you can do or I can leave you to your own devices as giving people privacy is one of the keys to being a great host.
Christina purchased this Apartment in 1971
Why Christina chose Rethimno
* Walk to everything! Located in the old quarter of the town, next to the famous Monitor Art Cafe (formerly Figaro Social Club), which is the first cafe to open in the area. The house is just steps from local bakeries, supermarkets, ATM machines, liquor stores, pharmacies, boutiques, shoe stores, restaurants and bars. Mikrasiaton Square (the heart of the historic center) across the street, hosts various happenings and summer concerts. If you are lucky enough you can enjoy a folklore event for free. * You can boast you spent your holidays living in the neighborhood with the most important monuments of the city from the Venetian and Ottoman period, such as the House of Culture, the Neratze Mosque, the church of Agios Fragkiskos, the Historical and Folklore museum.
What makes this Apartment unique

An amazing stay-highly recommended!!
Fabulous modern apartment in a great location which is scenic by day and hot spot by night! Super comfy beds and lovely first class clean accommodation. The Downtown Pent has two amazing balconies, where we enjoyed sunrises and sunsets. The most impressing thing though, was the 360 degrees vista view from the huge rooftop terrace. We loved relaxing there and finally spent more time at the rooftop terrace than around the town! Christina was extremely helpful and quick to respond to any of our messages or questions. If there was a rating higher than excellent, we would gladly give it. Strongly recommended!
Dear Manolis & Eleftheria, thank you so much for your super review! I am very happy you relaxed at the apartment and you loved its outdoor facilities! You were excellent guests! I do hope we'll meet up again!
It was back in January 2018, while we were celebrating my mum's 84th birthday at a tavern in the mountains, when we became friends with a group of Scandinavians who were celebrating their 20th year on the island. They said, "Before we moved here, we thought that the Aegean was the heart of the world. Now we are certain that Crete is the core of this heart. Everyone should visit this holy land like a pilgrim. We were lucky enough to find a second home" and they pointed out "it's not Greece, it's Crete!"
I always love it when I share my genuine love for my island with others and while you can't move to Crete forever, you can be a native for as long as you are here!
The whole atmosphere narrates the rich history of the place in a fascinating way. With a history of more than 4500 years and a cultural identity shaped through the Venetian and Ottoman times, this place has so many stories to tell! It is a joy to explore the cobbled streets of the car-free old town on foot and let it take you back through the centuries. You'll feel the aura of people who lived here and of those who are still deep-rooted in their traditional tranquil wisdom. Be prepared - someone may give you a "mandinada" - enjoy finding out what it is when you get here!
Sometimes architectural styles are combined, so you'll see that lovely pastel-colored Venetian era houses have wooden balconies added by the Turks. You'll also meet the elderly mingling with youngsters in and around the public squares, you'll catch sight of students, natives and visitors hanging around in bars, pubs, taverns with live music and "rakadika" - local cafes serving traditional Raki and food. In our district every night is Friday night! Let the music lift your spirits way past midnight and enjoy carefree moments in the most lively neighborhood of the town.
There are street artists here and there, lovely cats stretching and purring in the alleys. If you are an early bird, you'll also see people visiting the churches and having the first coffee of the day shortly afterwards. And that's only the beginning!
When it comes to sightseeng, having the opportunity of living in the old town, you can easily walk to diverse masterpieces, such as:
- The Venetian Castle of Fortezza: 7min
- The Venetian harbour: 4min
- The Venetian Loggia: 3min
- The Historical-Folk Museum: just on the right of The Downtown Pent!
- The Neratze Mosque: just on the left of The Downtown Pent!
- The Guora Gate (Porta Guora): 3min
- The Museum of Contemporary Art: 2min
- Kara Musa Pasha Mosque: 5min
- The Turkish School: just accross the street!
- The Rimondi Foundain*: 2min
* Legend has it, that one drink from the Rimondi Fountain will make one fall in love with a native, which will keep one in the town forever. This is just for you to know, so that you can't tell I did not warn you...
Every Monday, Thursday and Saturday street markets take place in parking areas of the town, where you may find fresh fruit and vegetables as well as local products and souvenirs.
Additionally, you can choose to go for a refreshing walk either along the palm tree-lined beach front road or the less crowded coastal road with dramatic views of the Fortezza Castle.
Last but not least, The Downtown Pent is just a stone's throw on foot from the famous, longest, blue flag beach of Crete, which is sandy and where you can delight in the deep blue of the Mediterranean sea.
