We are often asked about cell coverage. Here is a response to a recent question.

'Thanks for the question. Our carrier is AT&T and about three years ago the coverage went down the tubes .  Our cousin has Carolina west and here works just fine. I have heard rumor that Verizon works but I can't verify that. There is a standard landline that you can receive calls with or use a calling card to call out. There is also wifi for Skype or FaceTime or imessage  There are pockets on the way to Spruce Pine and Newland where texts and Voicemails will come through. The bottom line is that it can be inconvenient but is no different at our cabin than anywhere else in the region. It is the nature of the topography. It is not something that we get complaints about.  Don't hesitate if you have other questions.'

Better than the pictures convey! Paradise.

Such beauty, solitude, grace and natural splendor. My 2 weeks plus at Arbor Branch was relaxing, stress free with beauty surrounding from morning sunrise to the late evening stars that were so clear in the evening sky one felt that one could reach up and touch them. The cottage was very well maintained, well supplied, all was in working condition. I have already recommended Arbor Branch and hope to return myself next summer.

Very misleading!

  • 2 of 5

The picture and description of this place is very misleading. When we arrived it looked zero like the picture. Upon entering we found a wash full of wet linens, an unmade bed, dirty floors and a nasty uncleaned bathroom. We had to clean the cabin and do laundry and make the bed. The owner was nice and tried to make things right by returning the cleaning fee. Also "all modern amenities" as in the description does NOT include A/C. We were told this is not uncommon for the area. We are from the hot south and have stayed in many places in the mountains for over 20 years and have never not had an A/C. The cabin is cute, but that's it!

Great stay, all the comforts of home!

  • 5 of 5

This proved to be an excellent cabin choice. Very comfortable, all the conveniences of home in a small space. This cabin is more "private" than the photo suggests (which is a plus in our eyes). It was especially nice to sit on the porch in the evenings and watch the wild turkeys move from the lower pasture up the hill. The cabin is stocked with all you could need and everything works. The owners provided easy to follow directions to the cabin. The cabin contributed to an outstanding weekend, thanks!

Better than a hotel room

  • 3 of 5

Chose this rental because of the seclusion of being on 100 acres and being able to hike with our dogs. That part was accurate, although we did not realize there was another cottage sharing the same driveway. Picture of cabin in listing must have been taken over 10 years ago since it is now completely surrounded by trees and heavy brush. There was no view at all. A house below has lots of animals so be prepared to hear roosters crowing and donkeys. We are very outdoorsy people and have gone primitive camping, this was one step above that. Upon entering the cabin, there was an almost overwhelming smell of creosote from the chimney being in bad need of cleaning which could have been mistaken for vomit if we didn’t know what it was since we heated with a wood stove for 25 years. The cabin was clean overall. A few things were not shown in the listing....the bathroom is painfully small and has a very old tub with a shower. The toilet handle had to be jiggled each time it was used. In the living area, there was a futon and 1 chair, so don’t plan on getting too comfortable. No cushions available for the rocking chairs on the porch. Gas BBQ grill had a mouse nest inside, which we cleaned out only to find the propane bottle was empty. The bedroom was very comfortable as was the bed. All linens and towels were clean. Listing advertised satellite TV which did not work at all. We contacted the owner and measures were taken to remedy the issue and after 6 days, still no TV at all but $50 refunded to us. I will say that the owner was very responsive and tried her best to get the satellite fixed. The hiking trails were great and we really enjoyed taking day trips to Spruce Pine, Linville Falls, Mt Mitchell and Burnsville. I suppose this was a good home base but could use some updating and a better caretaker. WiFi was usable but had to be reset several times per day. We have Verizon and had no signal at all the whole time. The morning we checked out, there was a very strong odor of the septic tank, so we are glad we were moving on. We are country people and not prissy by any means but this was a bit rough around the edges for us.
