|Minimum Stay||5 nights|
Part of a small apartment complex built to the most exacting standards six years ago due to the necessity to retain historic features in the centre of this old Madeiran seaside village. This three bedroom, two bathroom unit represents incredible value for those who want to lie on the beach one day and walk in the mountains on the famous levadas the next. All facilities included. High speed wireless broadband and 60-channel cale TV with no additional charge. Two secure car parking places available if required.
Machico provides the opportunity to enjoy an authentic Madeiran holiday at a fraction of the cost. There is little obvious tourism - the locals have not told anybody what an amazing place it is!
Madeira Island Direct have been managing holiday rental properties on the island of Madeira since 2006. We only look after apartments that meet the most exacting standards - most of which we have looked after on behalf of private owners for a number of years.
Great base at a competitive price. Couple of light-fittings not finished but otherwise everything as promised. Location is ideal - 1 minute to the supermarket, 5 minutes to the beach. Great cafes.
Booking straightforward, taxi met us at airport as arranged with keys. Apartment spotless and well equipped, though mix up over number of keys following arrival and lack of information about apartment itself or initially a local contact proved problematical with a couple of minor issues that arose. Living area will be really nice when lampshades fitted to bare bulbs. However would still stay again, as on the level - unusual for Madeira - with lift, with 2 supermarkets, several restaurants and harbour and beach within 5 minutes walk, terrific.
Spacious apartment in a central location. As a family we love Machico – very local and traditional, no hustle and bustle, and cheaper than the traditional tourist areas where we stayed when we first visited the island. The kids were on the beach every day – and the walk was only five minutes. The apartment had everything we needed, and two bathrooms were very handy. Manager came from Funchal to meet us and was very friendly.
We keep returning to Machico, preferring the unspoilt village feel and the sandy beach in particular. Still lots of cafes and restaurants to chose from and the apartment is central in the village so everything is walking distance. The accommodation was clean and functional for a large party, with nothing missing that comes to mind. Two supermarkets nearby. Wireless internet a big advantage.
We have stopped twice now in Machico and this apartment in particular which is just a few mins from the airport and right in the centre of the old village. The apartment is spacious, clean, well equipped and ideally located close to shops and the bus station(although we hired a car as it has private parking). We used this as a base for the trails/walks into the hills and my husbands golfing obsession! Other days were spent lazyiing around the local shops after laying on the beach which is within easy walking. The port area in Funchal is only 15-20mins by car with just one main road linking both. Lovely stay, ideal location, even the kids wanted to go back.

Machicos is a perfect place for a day beside the sea, thanks to its imported golden sand and large swimming pools complex. The beach really is perfect, a wide strip of golden sand curving into the bay as if it had always been there. The sands are usually spotlessly clean, with a few 'fixed' straw sun umbrellas located at the back of the beach area. There is a gentle ramp down to the sands, perfect for disabled access, and a paved walkway out onto the breakwater, ideal for a stroll with an ice-cream to admire the terraced fields on the cliff face, watered by the levadas. A promenade runs behind the sandy beach, fringed with waving palms, and leading to the original beach area. Here, it's familiar Madeira pebbles, with access to the sea via some fairly wobbly decking and boards. Machico Beach is all about fun, so there is plenty to do here, including pedolas for hire, jet skis for the sporty, and sun beds and sun umbrellas for those who prefer just to lie back and soak up the sun. Lifeguards are on duty around the pool areas, and when hunger strikes, the complex has its own bar and restaurant.
