The house has been in my husband's family since the 50s and we love the proximity to the town and the great features of our apartment rental.
Louise purchased this apartment in 1950
The owner was born in this house and has always lived here.
Property is in an ideal position as you can walk to the centre with shops, restaurants in 2 minutes and there is plenty of parking just outside. This is a unique benefit not easily found elsewhere. If you are coming for a long stay an English speaking person on hand to help with any problems (e.g. health etc) can be a real plus point.
As my daughters wedding loomed in Tuscany I had to make a decision on accommodation in Sansepolcro, the nearest town to the wedding villa. Having searched the net for suitable accommodation I could not help returning to the warm welcoming apartment that Louise and Franco advertised. It was the best decision I could have made.
We arrived in Sansepolcro after a hectic two weeks of touring in Spain and Portugal and desperately needed a spacious, comfortable home away from home, to recover and enjoy the wedding.
As with most advertisements I expected the apartment to be somewhat smaller and less than I had anticipated. You can imagine my surprise when we realized that it was actually larger and more spacious than the photographs. I have never been so pleasantly surprised.
With delayed flights Louise was incredibly flexible as our arrival times changed a number of times in one day. When we finally arrived at ten oclock at night they were there welcoming us warmly and making us feel at home instantly. We were also thrilled to find all essentials in the fridge and pantry, milk, bread, butter, jam, cereal, coffee, tea and more. What a pleasant surprise! The bed is large and very comfortable, the solid stone house sound proof, the towels, the linen, everything so welcoming.
Louise and I bonded instantly over a cup of tea and apart from being a great hostess and fun company she also very generously offered to accompany me and my daughter to the bakery and the florist to organize the wedding cake and flowers. I couldn't have done any of this on my own as neither shop spoke any English. I will forever be indebted to Louise for helping us finalize all the little extras and guiding us to the best shops to do so.
So what can I say about this apartment? We didn't as much rent an apartment as stay with friends in the most stylish little town called Sansepolcro. If you want a genuine Tuscan experience you cannot go past this place. You can rent houses but they are isolated, you can stay in hotels and trip over your luggage or you can stay with Louise and Franco and for a short time feel like a local.
I cannot wait to return and use this place as our base for further travel. I adored the host and hostess and loved being introduced to their friends and share Proseco, cheeses and olives over a warm Tuscan sunset in this magnificent Medieval town, Sansepolcro.
“Your Hosts, Louise and Franco are wonderful — caring, helpful, supportive, and who provide attention to detail in hosting guests in their vacation apartment. A detailed vacation folder provided by your hosts to plan your visit to the city and the surrounding region is very helpful and informative. The apartment is spacious, with lovely decorating, a well-stocked kitchen, separate bedroom and lots of living space to enjoy. The garden is a specific treat, private yet offering a view of the original city wall, with lots of flowers and other landscape features. The location is fabulous — within walking distance of a bakery offering delicious treats; the city gates that offer lots of shops, cafes, restaurants and boutique shopping experiences. Enjoy the weekend market or the quiet of evenings strolling the very lovely city. If you are looking for clean, quiet, roomy, enjoyable, relaxing and convenient accommodation with hosts who are a joy to meet and spend time with, this is your top choice! Highly recommended."
My partner and I spent four weeks at Louise and Franco's place Aug-Sept 2015. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend their accomodation. We found the place very comfy and loved the outdoor living space, especially the wood oven which we used often.
Louise and Franco were wonderful hosts who went out of their way to do little things for us like provide the wood for the oven as well as Franco offering to pick up our friends at the Arezzo train station so they wouldn't have to take the bus after travelling from Canada. And, Franco drove us to Arezzo when we left on our way to Rome.
We had several memorable evenings with Franco, Louise Alex and Agatha (the cat) sitting outside enjoying the lovely weather and wonderful wine and food of course.
Sansepolcro was lovely - just the right size - the right amount of history, wonderful shopping (some fancy clothing stores!!) and great restaurants. I had the BEST HAIRCUT there that I have had in years and I live in a big city (Toronto).
As we had spent 5 months in Europe, this being our last stop, we were very happy to have access to some English TV stations as well as a whole library of books to choose from - I read so many wonderful books.
We had spent a few weeks travelling around via car before we ended the Italian part of our escape in Sansepolcro. We gave up our car when we arrived in Sansepolcro but did have our bikes and spent most days cycling around - up to Anghiari for lunch and over to Citta di Castello and other places. The cycling was not as good as some other places in Italy so I wouldn't recommend the area if you were looking for a cycle specific vacation but it did have enough interesting routes. I also enjoyed running there as you could get out onto nice country roads very easily.
We were also in town for the Cross Bow festival which we thoroughly enjoyed watching (even if we didn't have a clue what was going on). And the Friday night and Saturday night passagios with everyone in town coming out just to walk up and down the main street - it was great to see. And wonderful Gelato too :)
All in all, we had a wonderful time at Louise and Franco's place and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a nice "chill" vacation. We will definitely go back for a visit.
We had visited Italy before, but always the major cities. Staying in Sansepolcro with Louise and Franco was a memorable experience -- our best trip to Italy! From the moment my husband and I arrived to find a bottle of wine, pastries and supplies for breakfast waiting for us, we knew we had made the right choice. Louise and Franco were welcoming and gracious hosts, and their recommendations for restaurants, shops and nearby places to visit were a perfect match for us. The location itself is perfect -- right outside the walls of charming, medieval Sansepolcro and within easy driving distance of not-to-be-missed sites in Tuscany and Umbria. Our friends could not believe the apartment pictures that we posted on Facebook -- they were amazed by (and quite jealous of!) our spacious and comfortable accommodations. Our stay was definitely not long enough -- we'll be back! Grazie mille!
We spent 2 delightful weeks in Sansepolcro. The apartment was just what we wanted and the location was great! It is located just outside the old city walls, so easy to walk to great bars, restaurants and shops. We had a rental car (an automatic rented at the Florence airport), so we enjoyed many days driving around Tuscany to visit wonderful towns and wineries. Lousie and Franco were helpful and friendly and the fact that they spoke English was a real bonus. The September weather was perfect and there were very few American tourists there, which we loved. We highly recommend that you consider rentlng this apartment.
We enjoyed a 2 week stay in Sansepolcro, near Arezzo in Toscana. The apartment was ideal for a couple but it was also very spacious and so would comfortably accommodate more. We loved the garden, too, where we enjoyed many of our meals in the pleasant weather. May is a perfect time to visit Italy as the weather is usually warm but not too hot.
Our hosts Louise and Franco were perfect hosts and were helpful in all respects. As we were without a car, Franco very kindly drove us into Arezzo for a day visit and to the bus stop when we were leaving. The local bus was reliable for visits to some small towns, notably a magnificent hill town called Anghiari which was a five minute bus ride from Sansepolcro. There is also a local train line that is quite close to the apartment which travels to Perugia(the capital of Umbria), with a few stops in between.
Sansepolcro is a friendly town, with quite a few restaurants and bars. There are street markets on Tuesdays and Saturdays and there are still some alimentari in the Centro Storico which offer an authentic Italian shopping experience. If you want more variety in your shopping, there are three supermarkets within walking distance.
Oh yes, and when you've had enough of "la dolce vita", there is an excellent museum which includes works by the artist Piero della Francesca, who was born in Sansepolcro.
We highly recommend this apartment for a relaxing Italian holiday.
During the summer there is a small antiques market in the square from Friday afternoon all through Friday evening.
Great festival in September enjoy medieval paradesm music, food festivals etc. Please ask for more details. Mountain bike hire with tours can be arranged.
