Wonderful property. We stayed for 10 days and could not have had a better experience. House was spic and span clean, everything worked, just generally lovely.
I was there visiting family nearby, so I would tell any renters that a car is a must. You are too far away for walking distance to the nearest village, unless you are a walker, it's about 3 miles to Crail.
Beautiful countryside, and the North Sea is just out your door.
A great time at Balcomie
We had a wonderful nine days of golfing and hiking. This was our second stay at Balcomie. We love the location, the accommodations, and hospitality!
Lovely accommodation in an idyllic setting
We stayed for a week over the May Bank Holiday period. The accommodation was spacious, elegant, warm and inviting. Plenty of room for 6 sharing. Comfortable bedrooms; spacious living quarters; well equipped kitchen and utility room. The decor was just right for a period property. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful at all times. We especially enjoyed the lemon drizzle cake on arrival!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to be back in the future.
Another Fantastic Holiday At Balcomie Farmhouse!
This was our 2nd time vacationing at Balcomie Farmhouse and it is always amazing to stay somewhere with so much history, beauty and Carly & family there to see your taken care of, makes this place one in a million. A real Scotland secret gem! Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed with lemon cakes and smiles. Our 2 weeks flew by fast but we loved every second we spent at Balcomie. It is a great base for exploring Scotland with the busy golf meca of the world, St. Andrews just to the north. An Anstruther with its famous fish & chips nearby, Balcomie gives you the peace and relaxing you need after a day of exploring. We walked to the shore in the evenings, took advantage of the endless paths exploring around Balcomie Castle, even enjoyed making breakfasts and dinners in the very spacious kitchen all while watching a little TV in the big living room. We even played with Carly’s pups, Tilly, Suzy and Gem who loved running around chasing after my husband. The house has everything you need for a perfect stay! Obviously I cant praise Balcomie enough! Thank you again for a wonderful holiday and we will be back again!!
A fantastic house in a great location with everything you would want. Great attention to detail!
We stayed for the week and loved it, even though weather was not great. Carly has done the house up beautifully with a lot of thought going into it. The kitchen has everything you need, it is much better equipped than any other house we have stayed in. The lounge was a great place to chill out, the fireplace was a real focal point. From the outside the house looks like it would be cold inside, but it was anything but. It was warm throughout the house.
The bedrooms were very spacious with lots of storage, and the beds very comfy. The bathrooms were all beautifully done and the showers were very powerful!
Balcomie is a great base to explore the East Neuk, especially if you are a golfer or a walker. There were also lots of great pubs and restaurants within a short distance.
All in all a great place to stay and we will definitely be back.
Very well equipped comfortable home-from-home
Had a wonderful stay - the house is very well equipped and well furnished. Overall we had a great stay and enjoyed the space and peace and quiet.
Crail is one of several traditional fishing villages situated along the East Coast of Scotland. It has a rich history, some lovely buildings and winding streets full of character. Crail has one of the best known harbours in the East Neuk where (in season) lobster and crab are available. There are also cafes, pubs, a butcher/deli, grocery stores, a pottery, galleries with work from local artists, a museum and tourist information centre.
The nearby fishing villages offer a variety of attractions and activities. Anstruther, a busy holiday village has a marina, the Scottish Fisheries Museum and award winning fish and chips from the Anstruther Fish Bar. There are boat trips to the Isle of May, a nature reserve famous for its nesting puffins. Pittenweem is a working fishing village and home to a successful Summer Arts Festival. Elie has a wide sandy beach and offers a host of water sports. The Fife Coastal Path provides a fantastic route to explore the beaches around the East Neuk, whilst the cycle routes can take you inland to such attractions as Kellie Castle and Scotland's Secret Bunker.
This coastal area of the East Neuk is well served by restaurants and cafes from light lunches, high teas, evening meals, to special celebratory dinners and there are award winning restaurants for example in Anstruther and St Monans.
The nearby bustling university town of St Andrews, home to the famous Royal & Ancient Golf Course has much to offer and is just 20 minutes drive away. The interesting Castle and Abbey ruins show its significant importance in the area in the past, whilst now in modern times there is a good variety of individual shops, restaurants, cafes, botanical garden, and aquarium.
Further afield cities such as Edinburgh, Perth, Dundee and Stirling are within easy reach for day trips.
