• price fully inclusive of all cleaning, linen, firewood and fluffy towels

In the summer, you can walk from the chalet door. There are hiking trails across the mountains with spectacular views, gushing streams and cliff caves. You can walk past timeless Alpine Chalet farms that are still making reblouchon cheese and in late spring alpine meadows are crammed with flowers.

Are you looking for a romantic chalet with wood fires but all the modern luxuries like Wifi and underfloor heating throughout? Chalet Le Moulin is perfectly located high up the mountain on the way to our twin ski resorts of Praz de Lys - Sommand. The chalet is exclusively situated to enjoy stunning views over the valley across to the mountain tops and has all the peace and serenity you could every wish for! Our village is truly family friendly, offering a delightful 60km of high snow runs linked by 24 lifts but with skiing for all levels. It is renowned by local French and Swiss for its Alpine beauty, including majestic pine forests and spectacular mountain tops. Here you can avoid the crowds and clamour of our overdeveloped neighbours of Les-Gets/Morzine and Samoens/Flaine.

So come and breathe some fresh air, whether to ski or just simply relax and enjoy the peace

More about the skiing and surrounding ski resorts:

The chalet sits high above the village of Mieussy on the way its own ski resort of Praz de Lys - Sommand. Its just a few minutes drive further to park next to chair lifts that start at a high altitude of 1510m. Here the snow is already crisp and pillowy with soaring pine forests and open meadows. Next to the lifts are nursery slopes for beginers and ski schools and also lots of cross country trails. This magnificent setting make the resort a special place much sought after by cross country and back country skiers as well as families who require skiing at all levels. Its natural Alpine beauty at its best - unspoilt.

Our village of Mieussy lies in the famous Samoens/Les Gets valley, the chalet is a 14 minutes drive up to Sommand and Praz de Lys. But equally the chalet door is less than 20 minutes drive from the chairlifts of the famous ski villages of Morillion/Samoens and Les Get/Morzine. All 4 villages link up with many other resorts and its possible to ski all day and right over into Switzerland, without backtracking. Its so big you will never get round it all !

But it's not all about the skiing. Chalet Le Moulin has a special quiet peace. It's somewhere you can breathe deeply fresh alpine air, and have space to enjoy time with your family and friends.

Instead for a change of scene, explore the village winter markets and family events in the surrounding villages. For more sophisticated glamour, we are just a short hop to either the bright lights of Geneva or the lakeside magic of Annecy (which is our favourite day away from the slopes)

Do you want to escape the hubbub of a crowded ski resort with all its noisy bars and impersonal tourism? Find instead some natural peace, open views and quiet winter forests. Be high up on a south facing mountain, with old farm chalets and walking trails from your chalet door. This is a tranquil paradise, away from busy roads and somewhere your children can play and explore safely, meadows and forest in the summer or winter.

When the snows are deep, its easy to hire some snow shoes in the village and enjoy the white beauty of the trails. It’s straight from the pages of Narnia and an experience you wont forget.

About N Richardson

Irene is a school teacher in Edinburgh and Nigel works in IT management. We have three wonderful girls, ages 16,14 and 11. Here we are in our resort Praz des Lys-Sommand above the clouds at 6,500 feet.

N Richardson purchased this chalet in 2006

Why N Richardson chose Praz de Lys area

Chalet Le Moulin is a classic French log chalet, set high up the mountain with spectacular views, its own adjacent pine trees and surrounding meadows. Just above is our village ski resort. We think our village has the prettiest skiing in the French Alps! Its uncrowded and family friendly - here you will not get knocked over by rude 20 somethings from Northern Europe. Slopes are much less crowded, with long blissful ski trails and plenty of challenging runs at all levels. This is the secret resort where the local French and Swiss from Geneva go!

In the spring and summer it turns into magnificent green Alpine 'Heidi' country. Distant cowbells float up on the warm air as background music. The chalet is 50 minutes from the borders of Switzerland or Italy. Its perfect for exploring the Alps and lakes. The nearby lake town of Annecy is the single place that polled highest amonst French people for where most French people would like to move to if they could.

What makes this chalet unique

A peaceful hideaway. Romantic chalet charm with wood fires and luxury furnishings and fittings. Chalet Le Moulin faces south across the valley with views that inspire calm and serenity. From the door there are hiking trails across the mountains with spectacular views, gushing streams and cliff caves. You can walk past timeless Alpine Chalet farms, still making reblouchon cheese and in late spring the meadows are crammed with flowers.

Lovely Characterful Ski chalet - home from home!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for New Year and had a great time despite the lack of snow! Thankfully the chalet was so comfortable and such a nice place to be otherwise I think we would have been more disappointed about the snow conditions. The chalet was more a family home than just ski accommodation with lots of extras that make all the difference; raclette machine, crepe machine, sledges, wood burning stove (with endless supply of wood), cookery books and a very well equipped kitchen to name a few. We especially liked the alternative hot tub which is heated by lighting a wood fire! Handy to have a teenager to keep the fire stoked but really only took a few hours to heat up. Amazing place to welcome in the New Year - in the hot tub with a glass of Bubbly! Good location to ski different resorts but a car is essential. Would love to return, hopefully with better skiing next time! Thank you Nigel and Irene for all the information, advice and for taking the time to ensure that we had a good holiday.

Stunning

  • 5 of 5

The chalet is wonderfully cosy and homelike. Everything you could possibly want is here and the views from the garden and living room are truly inspirational. We loved the place and its setting and went on great walks right from the door. We enjoyed using the barbecue in the evenings and our games of family table tennis soon became an essential ingredient of the day's events. If you are lucky enough to find availability I really wouldn't hesitate to book it. My citywise boys ( aged 8 & 10) really loved the house and area too.

Nigel, the owner, could not have been any more helpful with his tips and suggestions. I'm hopeful that we'll return again soon.

What a fabulous cosy chalet - thank you!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much for our stay in your lovely chalet home. All the family enjoyed it.

So peaceful and we saw a deer in the garden one morning. We are already missing lunch on the balcony, the autumn colours and the evening log fire. We also managed several walks from the chalet, to the mountain cave and also along to the tiny chapel with the glorious views. Harry and Emma just want us to build them a copy of your tree house, immediately!

Many thanks again,

Seb and Anne

Wonderful holiday home and setting!

  • 5 of 5

It's always a risk when choosing somewhere new but that's part of the adventure and that's what we wanted.....We were a party of 9, three adults and 6 children from ages 6 - 2. Holiday time is precious, something that we build up to each year. We had tried the camp sites and parks but decided that we needed a home, with space to live and play.

Chalet le Moulin totally lives up to the description. The setting is truly incredible, isolated, set high up the valley, breathtaking views, yet just a few minutes drive away from little Mieussy, Taninges and further down the road to Samoens with all the facilities you could want.

The house had everything, very comfortable, spotless, secure. The kitchen was fully equipped. All materials were top quality. Our children loved the grounds, the space, having walks and spooky adventures in the surrounding woods.Sleeping arrangements were flexible, and we needed that with a large party and young children.

The thing I most liked was the peace in the evening, sitting on the balcony overlooking the valley as the temperature dropped, watching the bats, chablis, the clear dark skies - no mosquitoes :)

Dealing with the owner, Nigel, was a pleasure - very helpful with lots of carefully thought out advice and instructions. It is clear the owners take a lot of personal pride and enjoyment in the house and we're thankful that they allow others to share it.

Probably the best endorsement of the house and holiday is that we are returning! We have booked for the same time this year, and in fact are staying slightly longer. It is always a risk when choosing somewhere new, and that is an adventure, but there is still plenty to explore at Chalet Le Moulin and why take the risk when that's the case? We are looking forward to summer!

Perfect family vacation

We spent an outstanding week at chalet le moulin. Everything was well organized and there are a lot of hints provided for ideas to spend your time in the region. We did not miss anything in the house. You have amazing views over Mieussy and the nearby mountains.

Our own village ski resort has fabulous skiing, on unspoiled runs that spread out over several mountain sides (50km of runs) and forest trails and beg to be discovered. This is family friendly skiing, but offering a range of levels, in an extensive uncrowded resort, Sommand, which is linked through to the high altitude resort of Praz des Lys. Skiing starts at 1511m altitude so the snow is always crispy compared to the lower surrounding villages.

However we are also surrounded by a huge and bewildering choice of other village ski resorts, including the Portes du Soleil & Grand Massif. The Portes du Soleil covers twelve ski resorts and is perhaps the largest area of linked skiing in the Europe, if not the world, starting with Morzine, Les Gets and Avoriaz.

The Grand Massif region has 5 linked resorts with Morillon, Samoens, Flaines, Les Carroz, Sixt

Both these regions are accessible in only 15 minutes from our village.
