About Nigel and Irene
Irene is a school teacher in Edinburgh and Nigel works in IT management. We have three wonderful girls, ages 20,17 and 15. Here we are in our villages ski resort Praz des Lys-Sommand above the clouds at 6,500 feet.
Nigel and Irene purchased this Chalet in 2006
Why Nigel and Irene chose Mieussy
Chalet Le Moulin is a classic French log chalet offering the experience of wood charm of solid logs, set high up the mountain with spectacular views, its own adjacent pine trees forest and surrounding meadows. Just above is our village ski resort that extends over and arounds the mountains to the neighbouring resort of Praz de Lys. We think our village has the prettiest skiing in the French Alps! It's a protected nature reserve without the mass development of some of its neighbours. Loved for being uncrowded and family friendly - here you will not get knocked over by rude 20 somethings from Northern Europe. Slopes are much less crowded, with long blissful ski trails and plenty of challenging runs at all levels. This is the secret resort where the local French and Swiss from Geneva go! In the spring and summer it turns into magnificent green Alpine 'Heidi' country. Distant cowbells float up on the warm air as background music. The chalet is 50 minutes from the borders of Switzerland or Italy. Its perfect for exploring the Alps and lakes. The nearby lake town of Annecy is the single place that polled highest amonst French people for where most French people would like to move to if they could.
What makes this Chalet unique
A truly peaceful hideaway. Romantic chalet charm with wood fires but also luxury renovated kitchen, bathrooms, furnishings and fittings. Chalet Le Moulin faces south across the valley with views that inspire calm and serenity. From the door there are hiking trails across the mountains with spectacular views, gushing streams and cliff caves. You can walk past timeless Alpine Chalet farms, still making reblouchon cheese and in late spring the meadows are crammed with flowers. Afterwards you start up the wood fired hot tub. There is plenty of space to play outside and explore. The chalet has its own private woodland, hammocks, and hidden terraces to sunbathe.

Just as fabulous second time round
This was our second visit to Chalet le Moulin in Mieussy and I hope it won’t be our last! We love the house and the surrounding area and enjoyed some of our favourite walks from our last visit plus the new ones we tried. There is a lot to do in this area and the house is a great base and the perfect place to relax and enjoy stunning views of the mountains. Highly recommended!
Beautiful views from chalet
Lovely stay the house was in a beautiful location with great views across the valley. Very peaceful and secluded. The house is very well equipped so very homely. We really enjoyed our week.
Absolutely fabulous holiday and superb chalet. It is in a wonderful peaceful, rural location a bit away from the town but in easy reach with stunning views of the mountains. The chalet is very well equipped with everything one could need and it was excellent to have so many guide books, walking maps and local information, as well as personal information about walks from the chalet and favourite routes all so well described. First class communication and contact at all times, the information prior to arrival was faultless and so helpful. The walks are second to none around the area and there are flowers in profusion - I have never seen so many or so many species. Very special indeed. I cannot recommend this wonderful chalet highly enough for a peaceful break if you like the mountains and walking in summer. And thank you so much for allowing dogs - what a treat to be able to find somewhere dog-friendly. A big plus.
Thank you so much Nigel and Irene, what a special place for a most relaxing break.
Lovely house! We have visited your house 4 times so far and would love to come back again. Perfect location and stunning views!
Thank you for the lovely review!
4 returns to ChaletLeMoulin is fabulous! glad you enjoy it and the views so much you keep coming back for more, Nigel and Irene
The views are absolutely stunning, the house is full of char and great location from skiing resorts.
Stunning location with views you just can’t get bored of! The house is full of character and slept two families of 4 in comfort. Lots of quirky bits like the log fired hot tub, pizza ovens and tree house.
We skied from Somand which is a nice family friendly area about ten mins straight up the hill.
We absolutely loved our stay and would highly recommend. The only reason I’d say don’t book is that it doesn’t get booked up next time we want to come!
Yes, we do get booked early and have to disappoint many - some requests are into the second year ahead! But we try hard to accommodate returning guests with their wishes, so just ask us ASAP. Many thanks for the lovely review, Nigel & Irene.
A perfect week skiing with family in a beautiful location!
Gorgeous chalet in peaceful rural retreat, we needed our snow chains this week though in the swathes of snow! Log fire, cost evenings after days out on the slopes - a terrific holiday place and plenty of information given by the owner.
Our own village ski resort has fabulous skiing, on unspoiled runs that spread out over several mountain sides (60km of runs) and forest trails and beg to be discovered. This is family friendly skiing, but offering a range of levels, in an extensive uncrowded resort, Sommand, which is linked through to the high altitude resort of Praz des Lys. Skiing starts at 1511m altitude so the snow is always crispy compared to the lower surrounding villages.
However we are also surrounded by a huge and bewildering choice of other village ski resorts, including the Portes du Soleil & Grand Massif. The Portes du Soleil covers twelve ski resorts and is perhaps the largest area of linked skiing in the Europe, if not the world, starting with Morzine, Les Gets and Avoriaz.
The Grand Massif region has 5 linked resorts with Morillon, Samoens, Flaines, Les Carroz, Sixt
Both these regions are accessible in only 15 minutes from our village.
