White walls, blue doors and windows, such are the traditional Kykladic houses such is this authentic ancient sheepfold. Inside, white, stone and honey are the colours. On the ground floor there are a full kitchen, a sitting room and a dining room. On the first floor, there is a master bedroom with a double bed, a bathroom with wc, a large wall cupboard and a nice terrace overlooking the village and the valley. You still have another double bedroom and a bedroom with 2 single beds, an independant bathroom with wc. An additional wc is located on the groundfloor.
From the upper terrace of the house you will have a wonderful view of the valley and of the village. You will take your breakfast or drink your "ouzo" on the covered terrace of the ground floor, along the flowered little garden.
The kitchen is fully equiped with a fridge with freezer , an electric cooker with oven, a washing machine, a coffe maker, a kettle. On the little terrace outside the kitchen you will find a barbecue. A clothes line, an electric iron and an ironing board are also available.
The village, called Melanes, is built in one of the most lush, green valleys on the island where the running water was used to set in motion the water mills now deserted. You can make very nice walks through the perfumed landscape starting directly from the house. For instance, you can go to Kalamitsia where, in 1673, a jesuit monk built a wonderful residence for the jesuit monks in a luxuriant green valley. Then you can go on to the villages of Potomia first through the fields then taking a path bordered by orchards. You will meet several sources. Then a path will lead you to Flerio and the Kouros.
But that is just an example. Naxos rewards generously those who approach it with patience, respect and love. Many sites deserve a visit. Let's just quote:
- the mountain villages as Chalki and its wonderful olive trees and its large number of churches scattered around the plain; Filoti built amphitheatrically at the foot of Mont Zas; Apeiranthos called "the marble village" with its narrow marble mule tracks often covered by archways and its venetian defence towers.
- The old emery mining area at Moutsouna
- The marble Demeter's temple near the village of Sangri
- The deserted village of Skeponi above a lake in a wonderful mineral site
- The ancient castle of Apano Kastro
As for the beaches the choice is very large:
The most famous Aghios Prokopios, kilometers of a grained sandy beach and crystal clear water.
Mikri Vigla that has been chosen as a meeting place for windsurfing fans from all over the world
Alyko with its sand dunes and cluster of cedar trees
or on the eastern side of the island Moutsouna or Panermos.
Apollonas, in the north of the island
After your journey you will be happy to enjoy the peace of Melanes before testing one of its famous restaurants or spending the evening in Hora, the main town and the port of Naxos .
Insomma, tutto davvero perfetto!! Grazie Sylviane!
