Seabird Key is a private 10 acre tropical island hideaway located one-half mile offshore Marathon in the heart of the Florida Keys. As our guest, you have the entire Island to yourself, including an exquisite hardwood beach house (the only house on the Island) and a 19' Boston Whaler for your personal use. The runabout is used to visit the mainland, go fishing, snorkel on beautiful coral reefs, or enjoy a serene sunset cruise. The home is fully equipped, sleeps eight persons and is furnished with nautical antiques and Caribbean accents. Special features include multi-level porches, decks and a 35' widow's walk which affords 360-degree ocean views and a spectacular panorama of the bird sanctuary at sunset.
A palm shaded, white sandy beach with hammocks provides an unbelievably beautiful setting for private sunbathing, exploring jungle trails, and enjoying the ocean breezes and relaxing tranquility. Our manager, who lives on the mainland, is a phone call away 24/7 to assist you.
My husband & I currently live in Miami where Jim works in the financial industry and I work with Seabird Enterprises, Inc. in the marketing/reservations/accounting areas. We have 2 college age kids and an older daughter + family. I play the piano for fun and accompany a couple of local groups. Jim and I both stay busy with work, but also find time to volunteer in our local school, church, opera and community homeless assistance center. Jim and I were both working in New York City when we purchased the Island. We share a passion for creative projects. Jim worked long hours on Wall Street, but co-owned a Southern Style restaurant as a hobby. The fun for him was in designing and building the restaurant. When that was sold, he purchased the Island and our new adventure began.
Deborah Davidson purchased this house in 1983
It was my husband's childhood dream to own an island. We lived in NYC and came down to the Keys for a quick vacation and fell in love with the Florida Keys. The weather, the gorgeous water, the coral reefs, the fabulous fishing and the 'laid-back' feeling of the area captured our hearts and provided the perfect get away from New York's fast pace. While visiting the Keys, Jim saw an ad that read 'Island for Sale.' The Island posted for sale was fabulous with white sandy beaches, but it was a risky purchase because it could literally get blown away in a hurricane. We returned to NY with a seed planted in Jim's mind. Months later we got a call from a broker who said an island was for sale that might meet our needs. Located on the bay side and made of solid coral with good water access, it didn't matter that the island looked pretty rough. Jim realized that a thorough clean-up and some heavy duty palm tree planting could transform the Island into the paradise we feel it was meant to be. 26 years later, we're all enjoying Jim's vision.
Seabird Key has been described by our guests, friends &
After 14 months in the Iraqi desert, Seabird Key was the paradise that we needed. What an amazing job you all have done to ensure that we wanted for nothing. We loved the wildlife and the kayaking. Even though the Keys were brushed by hurricane Fay during our visit, it was handled beautifully and everything was perfect. We look forward to visiting next year. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Words really cannot describe how much we enjoyed our week on Seabird Key. We had a wonderful time tubing, paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling, bird watching, searching for hermit crabs and iguanas, and sunbathing. Late afternoon would find some of us relaxing in a hammock. A vacation where we all enjoyed cooking dinners in the outdoor kitchen along with the unique experience of showering in the outdoor shower. The central location in the keys made for easy access to have fun off the island too. We drove to Key West and took a float plane to Dry Tortugas National Park/Fort Jefferson. We also enjoyed a jet ski tour around Marathon and taking the boat out to Sombrero Light and Reef. Wonderful vacation. Sadly a week, goes by way to fast!
We just got home from this beautiful place this past weekend. It was like a tropical park.. 50+ different palm trees. Everything in place yet gives the illusion your on your own tropical getaway.
The outdoor kitchen is where the most time was spent! The pictures don't do this place justice! We've stayed at several islands in the keys but I think this is our new favorite spot! Looking forward to booking our next stay!
This is a rare and unique opportunity to stay on your own island in a beautiful, remote setting yet only minutes from the mainland. The owners have designed and maintained this property perfectly. You have plenty of toys with a boat, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, fishing equipment, snorkeling equipment, tube, and more. The house and outside bar have all the amenities to cook, store food and drink, eat, clean your fish, swim, or just hang out and enjoy the view.
You can tell the owners care about this place and that it is a true passion project for them. Their local caretaker/manager is there to take care of anything that may need attention and to give advice about the local goings on.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful property with us.
What an amazing place!!! If I could describe paradise the island was it!! Everything about the island was awesome and the owners had catered for everything!! Jeff who is the Island Keeper was a top bloke and was on hand for anything that we needed. The views, setting, house, boat, flowers, trees and the list goes on was breath taking. There is nothing like and early morning coffee sitting on the dock watching the world pass you by, if it was not for technology, such as a watch or phone you would not even know what day it was it was that peaceful. Fully recommend anyone to take a break here. We are now suffering from the holiday blues and sitting drinking coffee in my back garden just does not cut it!! Thank you Deborah and Jeff for everything. We will 100% be back!!
"This is way more impressive than the pictures!", were basically the first words I said to Jeff, the manager, as we stepped onto the dock and walked the tropical pathway toward the house. We had never visited the Keys & booked this trip for our 25th anniversary. Most places don't live up to my expectations, but Seabird is one of the few places that did. It really is beautiful, the landscaping, pathways, private beach and outside kitchen area are done so well, I can't think of anything it lacked! Property is very well maintained and has everything you should need from bug spray, to kayaks, floats, etc. The radio playing throughout the house, outdoor kitchen & around the beach was a nice touch. The use of the boat was great & getting to mainland was no problem. Before going, I wandered if it would feel "too secluded" but it didn't at all. From the private beach you can see the back of a small island (Dolphin Jump Key) & you will see boaters & jet skiers go by often. So you have privacy & seclusion while still in civilization! I also wandered if bugs and critters would be a problem, but not bad at all. The crabs walking everywhere were a surprise. Fun to watch! Saw an iguana twice on island ( I was hoping too!) On the back dock, where we watched beautiful sunsets, the water was so clear we saw stingrays, a nurse shark & lots of fish! With all the wonderful outdoor setting I forgot to mention the house which was adorable! Loved the island style!! On the mainland, we enjoyed Stout's & The Wooden Spoon for breakfast, very good food. Castaways was delicious for dinner (although unappealing as you are driving up! & waterfront dining was lacking) but the recommended hogfish was great! We went snorkeling (for 1st time) with Spirit Snorkeling which was awesome! Deep sea fishing with Jimmy Gags was great, caught a lot & couldn't believe all the fish following the boat! Needless to say, we would definitely recommend Seabird & would love to go back & bring our kids for this wonderful vacation experience! I hate to say anything negative, but we would try to go at a cooler time, really hot without a/c in July! (which Deborah warned us about!) Deborah was so nice to work with. Very helpful, informative, professional & always quick to respond to any questions I had. Jeff the manager was also great to show us around & inform us of all we needed to know. Thank you so much for sharing your piece of paradise! It was one of our best vacations ever!
Seabird Key is beautiful and serene and we thrilled in the experience. The tree house is amazingly built and placed in the middle of a tropical wonderland. The house is great for people who want privacy and the construction is wonderful. The outdoor kitchen is a perfect evening hang out area. The week we spent was affected by unusual winds that meant no snorkeling anywhere in the keys....but the boat allowed us easy access to amazing local experiences. Jeff is a great caretaker and provided us with information and even brought out a new toaster in very choppy seas. Not a place for non- boating people. I will hold the memories close. We were a group of seven and if the group doesn't mind bunk beds, then it is perfect. The outdoor shower on the main floor is so wonderful and designed beautifully. The botanical overload is the best of all!
Enjoy the breathtaking drive down the historic scenic highway US-1 to the heart of the Florida Keys, Marathon. ''Seabird Key, Your Own Private Island' is located 1/2 mile offshore in beautiful Florida Bay. Marathon is best known as the fishing capital of the World, but you may never want to leave the Island. Drift away in a palm shaded hammock on your own private sand beach. No one but you will know if you've gone fishing or not. If you must have a night out on the town, there are many great restaurants in Marathon or enjoy the 45 minute drive across the seven-mile bridge and down to Key West where you're sure to enjoy fabulous dining, shopping and most of all, the famous Key West sunset at Mallory Dock.
Other Activities: kayaking, tubing, bird watching, canoe, boating, 14' Hobie Cat
Golf: Sombrero Key, but it's not the greatest golf course. Marathon is known as the fishing capital of the world, not a golfing destination.
