Jacaranda, is an independent luxury apartment located in a beautiful period building in the fascinating historical centre of Scicli. Scicli is at the heart of most of the settings for the popular television series 'Inspector Montalbano'. It is a charming baroque world cultural heritage site, approximately 25 km from Ragusa, and is now easily linked with the newly opened Comiso airport (which flys directly from Stansted and Dublin with one of the most popular budget airlines).
Situated in the town's main square, Jacaranda invites its guests to truly experience the magic of this unique place, strolling through its typical little streets flanked by noble buildings.
The apartment, situated on the second floor, comprises a kitchen/dining area, double bedroom (with the possibility for a 3rd additional bed) and bathroom with standing shower (no bath). Two outdoor terraces provide additional space and give the opportunity to enjoy the sun whilst overlooking the main square of Scicli. The apartment sleeps a total of 2+1 persons.
The apartment is decorated and finished to a high standard. The kitchen is fully equipped and air-conditioning, TV, fridge/freezer and a dishwasher is included in the apartment.
The traditional exteriors of the apartment hide a contemporary but classic interior, offering cosy rooms which have been carefully designed in the very latest in Italian interior trends. The central location means that bars, shops and markets are all close by.
Local amenities including, pharmacies, banks, post office, laundrette, car parking and bus service to and from the airport and all the other Sicilian cities are on your doorstep.
La Jacaranda is an excellent starting point for exploring the baroque towns of Modica, Ragusa-Ibla, Noto and Siracusa. Within easy reach (5-10 mile radius) it is also possible to enjoy the lovely sandy beaches of Cava D'Aliga, Sampieri, Donnalucata, Marina di Ragusa, etc, which characterise the south-east coast of Sicily.
The archaeological site of Cava d'Ispica, the Natural Reserve of Vendicari and the stunning Vulcano Etna are also easy to visit thanks to Scicli's location and the bus services operating close to the apartments.
Scicli is most notable for its religious parades which include 'Presepe'(nativity scenes) enacted in the caves surrounding the town at Christmas time. These caves, known as the Chiarafura caves, were dug out in the tuff cliffs, and some were inhabited by the local poor as recently as the late 1950s.
At Easter, the town celebrates with the 'Uomo Vivo' parade which involves a long religious procession through the town. A decorated horse parade takes place in March, from Scicli to the neighbouring town of Donnalucata. The most spectacular religious festival, the 'A Maronna i Milici' occurs in May, commemorating the appearance of the Madonna on a white horse holding aloft a sword. This encouraged the Christian Normans to defeat the Saracens in 1091.
The town also plays host to an annual road running race, 'Memorial Peppe Greco', which traces its route through the town centre.
