The Old Orchard is a two minute walk to the beach and just a five minute stroll to the high street, full of independent retailers, antiques shops, deli's, coffee shops, two large supermarkets and a Saturday market.

The Old Orchard is an ideal home from home, set over three floors, full of period charm to stay in all year round; bracing walks along the beautiful coastline in winter or al fresco dining in the garden in the summer.

We have tried to maintain a cosy home-like feeling; original pine floorboards, panelling and feature fireplaces throughout as well as bringing up to date with wireless broadband and bluetooth speaker to listen to your own music.

There is a living room with plenty of seating including a comfy leather corner sofa, TV/DVD with Freeview, feature fireplace and shutters as well as a selection of board games to keep the whole family entertained.

The second reception room has a leather chesterfield sofa providing a quiet place to read or listen to music in a bright, sunny room. A large dining table with benches and stools, an antique dresser, period fireplace and large original sash window with shutters overlooking the garden.

We have a freestanding solid wood kitchen fitted with dishwasher, electric fan oven, gas hob, microwave and fridge freezer, everything you would need for your stay. The utility room has a washing machine and tumble drier.

One of the two bathrooms is downstairs and has underfloor heating, shower enclosure with 'rain' shower head, bath, toilet and sink. (There is another bathroom upstairs).

An enclosed spiral staircase (fitted with stairgates if needed) leads from the hallway to 4 large light & airy bedrooms:

One kingsize master.

One twin bedded room.

Two family rooms each with one double and one single bed.

There is also a travel cot.

On the first floor next to the master bedroom and twin bedroom there is a smart fully tiled family bathroom with toilet, sink, and bath with shower over.

All bed linen & towels are provided but please provide your own towels for the beach.

We have a large lawned garden with outdoor sofas, chunky outdoor furniture and parasol. There is a parking space at the rear of the garden for one car as well as free parking on the road in front of the house and plenty more in nearby streets.

Deal is a laid back, quiet seaside town and we want our guests to have a fantastic stay however behaviour such as loud music, house parties and exceeding guest numbers is not acceptable and may lead to having to vacate and/or lose their security deposit.

There are many places in Deal to see and things to do, of course there is Deal Castle and Cinque Ports golf course is walking distance from our house. Fishing is popular as well as coastal walks and bike and horse riding.

There are lots of great places to eat out whatever your taste. We love Deal and hope that you will too!

About Mrs Karen Shipley

I'm Karen, and I bought The Old Orchard in 2011. Since then I've made quite a few changes! I love period properties and have enjoyed investing and improving it. I enjoy painting and decorating and I hope that this shows in our home.

I'm married to Paul and have two teenage boys. When we first arrived in Deal we loved the laid back feeling; there's a slower pace of life and everyone is so friendly. There's everything you need on your doorstep and if you don't want to drive you don't have to - there's a train station a 5 minute walk away to get to Canterbury or London.

I love mooching around antique shops and giving things a new lease of life - you'll see a select few items in our house that have been given the shabby chic treatment. Paul is very active and likes nothing better than taking a dip in the sea (weather permitting!) or cycling and running along the seafront.

Whatever it is that you like to do we hope that you like Deal as much as we do! Karen.

We would like to let you know that we had a really good time at The old orchard. Deal and surroundings were a discovery for us. We actually decided to visit Kent again. We didn’t have time enough for the castles.

We also found the house marvelous. We were impressed with the warm style and the authenticity, and yet, a lot of comfort.

We have recently returned from a fabulous weekend in Deal. The house is incredible, great for large families, offering every facility you’d need for a coastal weekend break. It’s in an excellent location, positioned perfectly for walking into Deal high street, where there are many high quality restaurants. It’s also a great base for exploring the Kent coastline and only twenty minutes drive from Canterbury. Having visited the area for a family wedding it now holds very special memories for us! Would highly recommend.

Stunning house in perfect location.

An absolutely gorgeous house with plenty of space! Our stay was very comfortable and despite the snow, wind and ice courtesy of ‘the beast from the East’, we were very cosy! The house has everything you need for a weekend stay or longer. The house is in a great location and in walking distance of the sea and the high street. Karen was easily contactable and left us a welcoming bottle of fizz which was a lovely touch! We really enjoyed our short stay and hope to return in the future... hopefully when the sun is shining!

Homely, fantastic location, ideal for large groups

This is hands down the most well equipped property for large groups that I have ever stayed in, down to having the correct number of forks for ten people and more. Karen has thought of everything, including a bottle of prosecco in the fridge upon arrival! I felt at home the moment I walked in - the house is impeccably clean and delightful both on the inside and out. Everyone was comfortable, and despite it being a cold weekend the heating worked well and we took advantage of all the blankets in the sitting room to stay toasty. The location is fantastic, close to everything, so no need for a car. None of us wanted to leave. Thank you for having us!

Lovely place, helpful landlord!

We stayed there with our 4 kids for 2 weeks.

For the first to the last minute, we enjoyed our vacation! The house is cosy, stylish, well maintained and equipped with everything you need.

Booking, arriving and departure was very easy. We met the owner once. She is really nice and helpful. Email and SMS contact was always fast and supportive.

Again: a perfect house in a lovely town.

Thanks a lot for a wonderful vacation!!!

Just Perfect!

A beautiful house, in a great location. The house is beautifully furnished, with spacious accommodation and all the amenities you could wish for. The location is fantastic for access to the town and the seafront yet surprisingly quiet - just perfect!

Once a 17th century smuggler's hideaway, Deal is now an unspoilt laid back seaside resort, full of history with it's conservation area, quaint fisherman's cottages, castles, Georgian seafront with promenade and coastal walks. Yet only 90 miles from London (direct trains available) and 20 miles to France, the coastline can be seen on a clear day.

The Old Orchard is within easy walking distance of the beach (just 250 meters) and a 2 minute walk to the high street full of independent retailers and twice weekly market offering fresh local produce. There are many cafes, restaurants and bars to enjoy, as well as vintage/antique shops and deli's.

Ideal for cycling into historic Sandwich (4 miles away) and along the coastal paths to see the famous white cliffs, there are golf courses in abundance (Royal St Georges, Cinque Ports and Princes to name but a few), as well as fishing and sailing.

An ideal base to explore all that Kent has to offer; historic Canterbury can be reached easily by either car or rail, Dover is only 15 minutes away, ideal for short trips across to France by ferry, or 30 minutes to the Eurotunnel at Folkestone.

Broadstairs (home to Charles Dickens) and Whitstable (famous for it's oysters) are both half an hour away by car. Art lovers could visit the Turner Contemporary Art Gallery in Margate, or try Folkestone for it's smaller galleries.

Equally, you could consider leaving all forms of transport behind and just relax and enjoy all that Deal has to offer.
