being 2km away from serro sao Miguel ,a travel to the top of Cerro da São Miguel and you won't be disappointed. Amazing views across the whole Algarve. Good road to the top and places to park. Worth parking half way and walking the rest so you can admire the views. Take the track off road to see rare wildflowers and abundant butterflies. Keep your eye skyward and you may see an eagle soaring on the thermals. Well worth a morning visit
Imagine being at the top of the Algarve´s world, gazing the sunrise or the sunset, with the beautiful atlantic ocean at one side and the raw small mountains surrounding you.
Despite of being the highest, São Miguel mountain is rather low so it is very convenient to drive, bike or walk up there, specially for those sun magic moments.
Other things to do: For nature lovers, nature trails along the Ria Formosa Reserve where bird watching is in abundance. Travelling West there are some excellent shopping centres in Faro and Guia as well as the famous Water Parks and Zoo Marine all easily reached by car or by day trip coach.
The Spanish border town of Ayamonte is approx 25 km by car, where the delights of another country can be sampled along with wine, Tapas and shopping. Ayamonte can also be reached by ferry from Vila Real. Seville is about 170 km away and budding historians may enjoy Castro Marim castle.
Golf: This is perfect accommodation for golfers wishing to sample the excellent courses situated in the Eastern Algarve. Within a 20km radius there are 7 courses to choose from. Benamor and the 2 Quintas (Ria and Cima) are the most popular and can be reached within several minutes. The prestigious new course of Monte Rei designed by Jack Nicklaus now has its first 18 holes open and is continuing in its development to the second phase offering the height of golfing luxury - although a costly experience, this is a real treat for golfing fanatics wishing to experience a little high life! Travelling only 10km further on towards Spain, the challenging course of Castro Marim, along with its famous country club comes highly recommended and just across on the border are the Costa Esuri and Quinta do Vale courses now growing in popularity. We can arrange golf at discounted rates.
Colina Verde: The Colina Verde is a small inland 9-hole course situated in Maragota, between the coast and the Algarvian mountain range.
Beaches - The Algarve is famous for its wonderful sandy beaches and the Island of Tavira is no exception. As a natural island separated from the mainland by the River Formosa, it is reached by catching a ferry from a designated point in the harbour. A excellent range of facilities is offered including beach bars, fish restaurants, Portuguese cuisine, pizza restaurant to name but a few. Also for hire are sunbeds and shades and together, these ingredients give a wonderful tropical holiday atmosphere amongst white sandy beaches and the rolling Atlantic Ocean akin to the Caribbean! There are a number of other beautiful beaches that we can also recommend such as Barill, Manta Rota and Praia Verde
Pedras del Rey , Barril Beach - Linked across the Ria Formosa the choice is an old steam train that doubles up as a goods train for the restaurants by the beach, which chug's along at a snails pace or a 2 km walk up through the Formosa to the beach, if you walk, take your time to spot the hermit crabs if the tide is out or smell the fresh pines as you meander through the tree's towards the beach.
Enjoy a wonderful few hours on the beach collecting all manner of shell's that have washed up on the shore, then retreat to one of the low key restaurants for a wonderful lunch before either returning to the beach or heading back to the villa.
Is a car recommended for this property?

is possible to require a chef in villa and cook meals on request.
Villa Colibri is the perfect place for a family holiday. 15 of us ( aged from 6 weeks to 65 years ) stayed there in early April 2017. The house is huge, allowing everyone to have their own space. The pool is easily big enough to cope with 15 of us and the jacuzzi was a big bonus! Both are heated by the solar panels and were lovely and warm. Additionally, the pool is fenced off, making the outdoor area safer for the children. The villa and pools are well maintained by Henrique and his wife Theresa, both of whom were really helpful in making sure everything was perfect for us.
The kitchen is well equipped with everything we needed and we used the barbecue regularly too. We asked Henrique for a barrel of beer and it was lovely to have cold beer on tap! The furnishings in the villa are comfortable and clean, ideal for a family to relax. The cinema and games room are brilliant, our younger family members loved to watch a film to chill out before dinner. The weather was so lovely that we spent most of our time outdoors, around the pool or in one of the numerous outdoor seating areas.
We ate in Henrique and Theresa's restaurant one evening, fabulous fish dishes - everyone enjoyed their meal, highly recommended to other visitors!
Moncarapacho is quite a small village, but has two supermarkets with a good selection of foods. Olhao is a short distance away and has a big shopping centre. We hired a minibus and this was very useful for shopping etc. We did walk to Moncarapacho, but couldn't have carried everything back with us, although I think local taxis are reasonably priced.
About 2.25 miles from the villa is Cerro da St. Miguel, a viewpoint on top of a hill. A number of our family are runners and liked to challenge themselves by running up the quiet road to the top and back. It's well worth a visit, frequently used by cyclists too.
In all, we had a great holiday at Villa Colibri, thanks to Henrique and Theresa for their excellent customer service - nothing was a bother to them. I would certainly recommend this villa to any family or group looking for a restful, relaxing holiday in the sun.
We were a group of 7 friends and we managed to have a superb time in the villa, enjoying a room for each person, using the swimming pool, the jacuzzi, the home cinema and having such a good time also thanks to the kindness of Henrique. Definitely recommend it!!
The villa was just great for what we wanted. A nice big place with plenty of space for 11 of us including four young grandchildren. The kids loved being in and out of the pool and the outside hot tub. The huge film room was great for the evenings when we could plug the children in.. The table tennis and pool table kept adults and children well amused also. The huge living room log fire was especially welcome in the evenings and the barbecue area outside came into play may times. The wifi was brilliant and never failed. Henrique and Teresa were very good hosts and always so pleasant. The furnishings are not luxurious which suited us well as we didn't have to worry too much about the children.but the whole place was very clean and tidy. All in all it was perfect for our needs.
The villa is lovely on the outside, the décor is nice too - but it is a shame they put such old furniture in it. I think the dining tables and chairs are old ones from their restaurant and some even had dangerous bolts sticking out.
The sofas in the cinema room are so old they sink and are covered with throws.
Also the villa has an ice machine, a coffee maker, a microwave and a traditional oven. Unfortunately, there was NO INSTRUCTIONS how to use anything, even Henrique didn't know. We were at least expecting a welcome pack with instructions and information about the area - but nothing.
The jacuzzi was lovely to begin with. Henrique came and treated it mid holiday, but in the second week it was not working properly as had lots of bits in it and the water looked dirty.
For such an expensive villa - I expected the furniture to be a better quality too - but we still had a lovely time.
This property is everything you could wish for, it is exactly how it was described on the website, even better than you get from the pictures.
There was 18 of us and it was plenty big enough, it was the most perfect holiday.
The owner Henrique is the perfect gentleman, very friendly, very helpful and most importantly replaced the beer as soon as it run out.
The area is beautiful, we were 3 mins from a good supermarket and bakery in the lovely village of Moncharapacho, and 10 mins from the amazing town of Fuzeta, with the wonderful beaches, bars and restaurants.
I will definitly be back!!
We spend two weeks here in July 2016. There were 12 of us; 3 generations of our family. The villa is spectacular, very spacious and luxurious. Set in a quiet rural area, very relaxing, and tranquil. Henrique and Teresa were such genuine and lovely people. They also own a fabulous restaurant in the village providing fantastic food at a low cost. They were always available to attend to us, from replacing the beer keg to just giving us advice. An extra special thanks is due as while we were there, my daughter took ill and was suffering from fever (she was eventually fine after getting antibiotics). When I phoned Henrique just to ask him if he knew the best hospital or clinic to take her to, within 5 minutes he was at the villa, and then spent over an hour making calls and helping us to get her the best possible medical care. The photos on the website and the YouTube videos show how beautiful this villa is, but PEOPLE make the difference. Thank you Henrique and Teresa!
Being only 2km from the villa, Moncarapacho, the local village, has a 16th century church at its heart yet has supermarkets, restaurants, a selection of local café/bars, shops, a bank. The area’s beaches are absolutely superb. Many are based on sandbanks, or small islands, which can be accessed by boat, or in one case, a miniature train. These boast kilometres of golden sand with both decent facilities and plenty of space to escape the crowds. In addition the nearby towns of Tavira, Olhão and Estói are all worth a visit, while the proximity of Spain means that a day trip is little effort. The Rio Formosa Natural Park is a must for birdwatchers.
Being only 8km from the villa, Fuzeta is easily reached and comprises a tidal river bordered with colourful fishing boats and pavement cafés, leading up to the estuary which has a sand beach and beach house where one can catch the small ferry boat which regularly crosses over the small stretch to a large, clean sandy coast. The beaches in this area are all EEC blue flag.
Flights and car hire: Although we leave it to guests to arrange their own flights to Faro, we may be able to help with car hire by recommending some reliable firms. Car hire is really necessary as public transport is not easily accessible from the villa; it is best arranged before you leave. You can pick up your car at Faro Airport when you arrive, and leave it there when you return home. Cycling on the country roads is fun and you can easily get to the beach on a bike
