50th wedding anniversary !
Big family get together for mum and dads wedding anniversary . Scotland and derbyshire family .,11 of us stayed including kids from 8 to 17. Cannot fault the property at all. Local farm shop delivered a fabulous home made meal Friday night . Absolutely loved it and will definately stay there again 👍👍
We had a fantastic stay at this beautiful property. Had lots of correspondence from owner prior to our stay which was great. The property was stunning and made for a lovely weekend break for our family. Beds very comfortable. Would stay here again.
Weekend cycling holiday
We booked Prince Rupert House for a short (3 day) cycling break for 8 members of a cycling club. The house was excellent and provided everything we needed, including secure storage in the large internal hallway for our bikes. Its position makes it ideal for visiting numerous places of interest, either by bike or car. Bedrooms were spacious and spotlessly clean. The kitchen and separate dining room were perfect for a large group, as indeed was the spacious lounge. As this was a cycling holiday, we didn't do any walking in the surrounding area, however it was clear there were many options for anyone wanting to explore locally; the house is in a lovely setting. An additional benefit was the meal option Penny mentioned to us, provided by the local farm shop. Two menus were available, with different levels of food and service. We chose the cheaper option (under £10 each for main and dessert) and found it superb. Food was brought to the house and just needed to be put into the oven, or served immediately; perfect after a 100+ mile bike ride! We'll certainly be back to the house again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and the convenient alternative to having to cook for yourselves. We would be delighted to see you and any other members of the cycling club again, whether for cycling, walking or just as a family/friendly gathering.
What a fantastic holiday in an amazing place.
We had a fantastic time from beginning to end, thank you Penny. There were 9 in our family group - 3 generations and a poorly puppy too who came away with us to convalesce. We were greeted by Penny, who explained what she needed to then left us to unpack and explore this beautiful house. There was a lovely hamper of goodies waiting for us , which consisted of cake, sweets, pop, fruit, Yorkshire wine, local eggs, etc.... There was milk and butter in the fridge and cooking ingredients such as oil and herbs in the kitchen. The kitchen was very well equipped with plenty of crockery, cutlery and glassware for a large group. The rooms are all large with high ceilings and so much space for us all. The downstairs bedroom and bathroom was invaluable for our group. We loved the comfortable beds, abundance of towels, big roll top baths. There was a huge pile of games to play in the living room had the weather been bad but we chose the hottest week of the summer holidays . We couldn't have had better weather to enjoy the facilities outside, such a pretty enclosed garden with barbecue and enough seating for us all around the tables, plus parasol. All of us apart from Grandma and the pup had a go at tennis(balls and racquets provided but we took our own), some with more success than others. We didn't try croquet but it looked fun. The swimming pool was where we spent the most of the time, it is shared with the small campsite and the owners but it was never too busy despite the glorious weather. We had such a lot of fun there and enjoyed a picnic lunch at the side of the pool using the garden furniture provided.
In 5 days we only left the estate once for a walk to the river as it was such a relaxing place to stay. We would love to come back.
We are 6 miles from York which has all the amenities you would expect from the 3rd most visited city in England outside London. York Railway Museum, York Minster, The Theatre Royal, The Jorvik Centre, Outlet Shopping Centres, York & Wetherby Racecourses, Cliffords Tower, York Castle Museum, The Shambles, Roman Walls and Bars(Gates not drinking holes!).
Harrogate Spa Town with its renowned shopping and gardens, with events such as the Great Yorkshire Show and the Spring and Autumn Flower Shows - all just 15 miles away.
Then we have The Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors all within a day trip - Brimham Rocks is a great day out - all our children and grandchildren love going there.
For the more architecturally minded, Fountains Abbey and Rievaulx Abbey are an easy drive away. We face National Trust Beningborough Hall across the river - a bit of a drive to get to the nearest bridge to get across to though, so why not take the foot ferry after walking along the river bank. Other interesting properties that guests visit are Castle Howard and Harewood House.
Also the Bramham Horse Trials are just 20 miles away.
Then you have the market towns of Ripon (22 miles), Wetherby (12 miles), Thirsk of James Herriott fame (26 miles). With other Yorkshire attractions such as the North Yorks Railway from Pickering (35 miles) and Lightwater Valley Theme Park (26 miles).
In fact, Prince Rupert House is the perfect base for the perfect Yorkshire holiday come Winter, Spring, Summer or Autumn.
