About the property

2 BR / 2 BA Sleeps 4 + 1 child, Ocean View, LUXURY Home, Brand New, Big Lanai

A brand new LUXURY home with all you can possibly need including an amazing view of the ocean and the mountains. The Ground Floor is 2300 sq. ft. Bedrooms are 30 ft. apart with private bathrooms.

TAKE A LOOK AT OUR VIDEO ON YOUTUBE. Search for "White Kona Whale House - Ground Floor".

Perfectly located getaway close to Kona in a beautiful and quiet area with the old Hawaiian feeling just above historical Kealakekua Bay (ranked as #11 by CNN as the world's best snorkeling destinations and #1 among the Hawaii islands). Close to beaches, snorkeling, restaurants, supermarket, cafes, bank, hospital and more.

The house is perfectly situated, close to both Kona and Kealakekua Bay. If you are trying to save some dollars and renting further south, beware that the road gets windy and what looks like a short distance on the map may be an extra 20-30 minute drive.

Our brand new and beautiful 4600 sq. ft. (427 sq. meter) LUXURY house has two identical separate floors (2300 sq. ft. on each floor). The house is super comfortable with everything you can possibly need and a breath taking 180-degree view of the mountains and the ocean.

YOU ARE ABOUT TO RENT THE GROUND FLOOR WHICH IS 2300 SQ. FT. OF WHICH HALF IS A COVERED LANAI. If you want to rent the Top Floor ($260 US+tax) or both floors ($425+tax; whole house) look and book at the listing #781044. If you rent either of the floors, someone else may be renting the other floor. The floors have separate entrances and are completely separated.

The house is a perfectly located getaway close to Kona in a beautiful area with the old Hawaiian feeling just above historical Kealakekua Bay (ranked as #11 by CNN as world's best snorkeling destinations and #1 among the Hawaii islands). It is located in a very nice and quite neighborhood.

The covered lanai is great for enjoying your morning coffee while watching the sun climbing over the mountain top, or watch the sun set over the ocean while enjoying our dinner table that seats 8 people when the chef is cooking on the outdoor grill. At night you will be amazed by the beautiful night sky with all the stars. With a fantastic 180-degree view of the mountain and the ocean, from Kealakekua Bay to Honaunau, you can sit for hours just relaxing in our luxury patio chaise loungers or the big outdoor coach.

The ground floor has a beautiful kitchen and living room all in one but the kitchen is without an oven and a regular cook top (instead it has a dual hot plate, a microwave oven and a large outdoor grill with a gas burner). The kitchen has beautiful quartz stone counter tops and a big kitchen island. It has a brand new dishwasher, a big refrigerator and freezer. You can cook in the kitchen and watch the 65-inch TV in the living room at the same time, or have a drink and a snack at the kitchen island that seats 4 while you are watching the chef preparing your food. Enjoy your dinner on the lanai at our big dinner table which seats up to 8 or at the kitchen island that seats 4 people.

The ground floor has 2 bedrooms with attached bathrooms with shower and toilets and walk in closets. The ground floor sleeps 4 people (1 King and 2 Twin beds) and there is a possibility to put in one extra folding bed with memory foam (perfect for children). The living room has a 65 inch TV and a luxury sofa.

When you wake up in your bed i the morning, open your eyes, look through the big sliders and be swept away by the amazing ocean view. On the ground floor there are two bedrooms with two private bathrooms and walk in closets. At 1100 ft. the temperature is just perfect, 80 degrees during the day and 70 degrees at night. You sleep great at this elevation without an air conditioning. Please note that the lanai of the ground floor is 12 ft. from the ground if you have small children. We have railings which are up to building code, but small children should always be supervised by an adult on the lanai.

Our house is perfectly located in a beautiful green and quite neighborhood with an easy driveway and plenty of parking. Just minutes away from shopping and the best breakfast place on the island, The Coffee Shack.

Your first day, you are most likely heading down to Kealakekua Bay, to snorkel, watch wild spinner dolphins in the morning or kayaking. Either way it’s a convenient 12-minute drive. Your second day, you may want to go south for 20 minutes and visit the sandy and most private beach of Hookena, one of the gems when it comes to beaches in the area, with great swimming and sometimes plenty of wild dolphins. One of the evenings, you will drive 10 minutes north for fine dining at Keei Café, or just have great food at Annie's Burger, or continue another 10 minutes north for all the choices Kailua-Kona has to offer.

Our house is a great base for exploring the Island. We love to go around the Island for a long day, or if you haven’t done it before, stay a night in Hilo to have some more time exploring the area. Driving around the Island in one day, starting at 6 AM, will allow time for a visit to the Volcano, lunch in Hilo, driving the amazing 4-Mile Scenic Drive through the rain forest, experiencing Akaka Falls just before sunset and then coming back through Waimea and Kona around 8 PM. Adding another day will make time for a visit to Hilo Zoo, it’s a blast for the children, and watch the lava flow at night.

We always love to come back to the peace and calmness of our neighborhood and the house after a long day on the road. Going north of Kona to the resorts is an easy 45-minute drive, and will be fun for a day. Hilton Waikoloa is well worth a visit just to get the feeling of how nice it is to be back at the house! There are several great beaches up north as well. The largest sandy beach on the island is Hapuna Beach Park (50 minutes drive).

About Mikael and Carola Owner/ Manager

Aloha! We have been coming to this magical Island of Hawaii for 20 years. We first visited Hawaii to attend a Dolphin course, and it was one of the best experiences we have ever had, beyond words. The Big Island and the area around Kealakekua Bay has been our choice even though we have traveled to the other Hawaiian Islands and around the world. The weather, the ocean, the people, the diversity, the Hawaiian spirit and the Dolphins have always called us back." E komo mai" please welcome to our house.

Why Mikael and Carola Owner/ Manager chose Captain Cook

The Kealakekua Bay area has always been our top pick of places on the Big Island. It's green, lush and beautiful and you can still feel the old Hawaiian culture. It's the best location for snorkeling, adventure, scuba diving and to swim with wild dolphins.

What makes this house unique

It is a brand new home with everything you could possibly need including a breath taking view of the mountains and the ocean. The two extra-large (1100 sq. ft; 100 square meters each) lanais are what make this house very special. It’s perfect for outdoor entertainment.

Notes:
Things that we enjoy to do. We like to go snorkeling and swimming in our area and we prefer to go to Kealakekua Bay, Honaunau/Two Step or Hookena Beachpark. Usually you can spot Dolphins in these areas and to see them under water is very special. You can also go to Honaunau National Historical Park in the afternoon and they have charcoal grills there so you can barbecue and have dinner there and watch the sunset. You can also walk on a very beautiful trail there or just hang out. They usually close the park around 6 -7 PM and they are strict about that. If you go up North and like to go to a fancy resort we like to go to Fairmont Orchid for lunch especially if you have children that like to go to the pool or the hot tub. Compared to other resorts like Hilton or Four Season where you are not allowed to go to the pool if you don't live there. Our favorite beach north of Kona is Manini'owali Beach. When you see two big brown hills you turn left. Manua Kea is definitely worth a visit.

Wonderful house, amazing location, everything you need for a relaxing vacation.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this property for 3 days, 2 adults, 2 kids - it was perfect. The house is truly beautiful with amazing views and everything you might need for a great stay. The layout is good & we really appreciated the twin beds in one room for our teenage kids. Its a little odd in that you enter each of the bedrooms via the attached en-suite bathroom... but each bedroom also has a slider onto the deck. Beds are comfy, showers are hot, house has everything - we didn't ever miss having a stove.

There wasn't anyone occupying the upstairs while we were there so I can't comment on possible upstairs noise but the area was lovely an peaceful.

Rent this property already!

  • 5 of 5

Mikael and Carola have a truly lovely property here. If the upstairs tenants adhere to the "no shoes" policy, it's a quiet & peaceful retreat. The neighbors are very quiet & the area is so serene that sound really carries - which is great when birds are chirping!

The outdoor lanai is remarkable, almost providing another whole living space with comfortable seating & breathtaking views. The property is very well-appointed though the microwave seems a little under-powered, old, small. The grill was a fantastic inclusion & immaculately maintained. Having laundry facilities on-site was a great perk, especially for a 2-wk stay. The internet speed was fab (as I needed to work quite a bit while on 'vacation' which helped me get back to relaxing); while we didn't turn on the TV, entertainment was included. (We left some books behind so hopefully future guests will continue the vacation rental lending library concept most properties use.)

The cleaning fee is absolutely worth every penny; "This is the cleanest rental property I've ever seen!" said my husband. (Guests should definitely maintain cleanliness while in-residence; they're not kidding about Hawaii's bugs showing up quickly. I only saw ants on the lanai rather than roaches as I've seen in other Big Island rentals.)

Mikael & Carola have great taste. There were so many decor items I fell in love with that I bought some from Amazon myself (the night-lights & kitchen towels); currently debating the thick rugs too! The King mattress was super comfortable & we had some great nights sleep.

We gravitate to Captain Cook for our Big Island vacations for its higher altitude (ocean breezes & views) as well as access to Kealekekua & some of our favorite local restaurants (JJ's, HK Chop Suey, Big Rob's, Patz Pies, Annie's Burgers, TK Noodle House.) Really looking forward to the KTA Express opening where Tamagaki Market used to be rather than heading up to Alii Dr.

While there is no official recycling from the trash service at the property, you can bring your returnables (cans, bottles) to pretty much any beach you head to regularly. Some local club will likely have a bin out to collect & recycle them for you. (Just be sure to drop them at the beach rather quickly or rinse bottles/cans to avoid bugs in the house if you won't drop them off right away.)

There are some tiny quirks of the house (push hard for outlets, light switches oddly placed) but overall a fantastic property & very glad we stayed!

Very nice home in an ideal location

  • 5 of 5

My wife and just returned home after a very memorable eight night stay in this amazing home in Captain Cook. The location cannot be beat with a remarkable view of the southern Kona Coast and away from the crowds and hassles of the downtown Kona-Kailua resort area. The home is very comfortable, spacious, well-equipped and furnished. The highlight is definitely the amazing 60' x 20' lanai. We used the outdoor grill almost every night, ate at the outdoor table, and watched sunsets on the comfy lounges. We definitely will recommend it and hope to be back ourselves.

comfortable modern living with great lanai and view of the bay

  • 4 of 5

The floor is spacious, modern, clean and organized. Has a large spacious lanai with comfortable seating. The lanai, like both of the bedrooms, overlook the expansive view of the Bay and ocean. Close to snorkeling and diving beach, Two Steps, next to the City of Refuge.

One bedroom has a comfortable king side bed, and the other bedroom has two single beds. Both bedrooms have their own complete bath, and a walking closet. Modern complete kitchen, but needs an oven.

Perfectly located for those of us who prefer the sounds of nature.

  • 5 of 5

Our hosts Mikael & Carola designed the perfect guest home in my favorite place in Kealekekua. It's far from tourist destination on the Big Island, but yet very close. It's easy to get away and still have options. The White Whale House is comfortable and spacious. It is close to amazing snorkel bays, Honaunau aka 2 Step and Kealakekua Bay. We swam with Spinner dolphins just off the beach. What a spiritual moment in time. My friends and I really enjoyed relaxing on the lanai barbecuing or dinner, lounging, making breakfast in the well equipped kitchen or driving to Angie's Burgers or The Coffee Shack for breakfast or lunch. Everything you need is close. Choice Mart is less than 5 minutes away and they offer a wide selection of natural, organic food and locally raised beef, eggs and locally grown fruit and vegetables. There's a farmers market close by with many artisans ranging from jewelry, music, art and clothing. Holualoa is an artist community just up the hill and a wonderful way to spend the day and have lunch or dinner at their fabulous restaurant. Day trips are relatively easy if you must visit Volcanos National Park. There is also another national park just down the hill next to 2 Step Beach, City of Refuge. It's a Hawaiian cultural center too. If you're lucky enough to be on the Big Island during cultural celebrations, do not miss them. The island has a strong pull and Kealekekua is my favorite place to be, besides my home. I have complete peace the entire time I'm on the Island. This was my 13th visit to Kealakekua and I'm looking forward to our next visit and stay at The White Whale House. Mahalo and Aloha to our hosts, Mikael and Carols. 💙
