Perfect Location for Visiting Cambridge and East Anglia Sights

  • 5 of 5

We echo all the positive comments from other reviewers about the comforts and convenience of this delightful house. We even put on a dinner for a couple from France and their son and daughter-in-law and two young sons who visited from London. The long dining room table, charming garden area, and the living room and sitting room all provided great spaces for entertaining, and the extra parking right across the street was perfect. Sarah was so helpful in giving us pointers for our stay. We found it an extremely well-located "base camp" for exploring the East Anglia area, where we were fascinated to see the superb Anglo-Saxon Sutton Hoo Museum in Woodbridge, wander around the medieval, half-timbered houses in Lavenham, attend 5:30 evensong (Vespers) at Ely Cathedral, spend the day in Bury St. Edmunds, take a one-hour boat ride through the canals in Wicken Fen, tour Anglesey Abbey and Gardens down the street, and leave our car in a convenient Park/Bus lot outside Cambridge, where we took a wonderful walking tour of the colleges and town and tried our hand at punting on the Cam (without falling in!). All our touring was interspersed with meals and drinks at the most delightful pubs imaginable. One morning we took a walk around Swaffham Bulbeck to visit the old church, began chatting with a gentleman walking his dog, and learned he was the neighbor of a recently deceased Cambridge University researcher and two-time Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry, Frederick Sanger.

So many people limit their England visits to London, the Cotswolds, the Lakes, or Cornwall/Devon, without considering East Anglia, a beautiful place that is also special for being the home of so many New Englanders' English ancestors. We highly recommend this area, and this well-appointed, well-managed and conveniently located home!

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed "living" at this cottage for our 4 week stay. It is very spacious and extremely well equipped with everything you need. The kids loved the big village green and park right across the road. The road is busy in the daytime, but the house is double glazed throughout so this wasn't a problem at all. The village is ideally situated next to plenty of great places to visit, and it is very easy to get into Cambridge or anywhere else. The owner was very helpful, friendly and communicative. I would love to stay here again!

Ideal family sized house in lovely area

  • 5 of 5

The house is easy to locate as it is right in the centre of the village. Don't be put off by the proximity to the road as traffic reduces to a trickle as night falls and none of the people staying with us were disturbed in any way. The house is a warren of large rooms with plenty of space for guests. The kitchen is well equipped and with the adjoining dining room it meant that everyone had loads of room to relax and eat.

I cannot over emphasise how clean and well presented the place is and how helpful the owners are.

Some of our group spent the week horse riding whilst the others occupied their time cycling. The fens are just north of the village and we cycled along roads without seeing a car for ages. Ely, Cambridge and Saffron Walden are easy routes and several Sustrans cycle ways criss cross the area.

Anything negative? Not at all. We were not wanting for anything that wasn't provided. It really contributed to a lovely week. Superb!

Clean, Beautiful, Large, Fully Equipped throughout

  • 4 of 5

House was very easy to find. It was fully equipped and had everything we needed for a very relaxing holiday. Very large inside, ample space for a family of 5. Very conveniently located as was 2 minutes drive down the road to National Trust Property Anglesey Abbey and it is a 10 min drive into the heart of beautiful Cambridge. Only bit we didn't like was the road in front which looks small but is very busy 24 hours a day. More noticeable as we needed all the windows open in the heatwave. However this is just our personal preference as we live in the countryside and are not used to vehicle noise - no fault of the house. Owners were excellent. Would recommend the property to all as it was excellent value for money. Thank you for letting us borrow your house.
