About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 1-4)

Just outside Abiquiu, in the lush Canones canyon, close to an old Hispanic Village, sits a great cabin with a large peaceful porch and inspiring views. A great weekend and vacation get-away!

There are unique prehistoric Indian ruins on top of a nearby mesa. The tranquil canyon leads to one of America's largest preserves, the Santa Fe National Forest. Following the Canones Creek upstream you can enter a mountainous wilderness stretching from Cuba to Los Alamos with the magnificent Valle Grande in between.

In driving out this canyon there are awe inspiring views of Abiquiu Lake, the Piedra Lumbre, and the Cerro Pedernal, often painted by Georgia O'Keeffe who had her studio at Ghost Ranch, on the other side of the lake.

The O'Keeffe House in Abiquiu is open for tours from late March through November.

The Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, Taos, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs, all make great day trips. Chama with the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, Chaco Canyon Culture National Historic Park, Ghost Ranch. It is all 'just around the corner'.

This comfortable cabin has a full kitchen, a shower bath, a loft bedroom with a queen-size bed and a sleeper sofa (queen) in the living area for additional guests.

Spectacular views from a gorgeous cabin!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a week in Santa Fe and then headed to Grace and Felix's gorgeous cabin in Cañones. It was an awe inspiring view as we rounded the hill and saw their rental for the first time. Nestled in a canyon near the Perdenal one could not find a more peaceful, beautiful place to land after a week of shopping and dining out in Santa Fe. The cabin was adorable; Grace and Felix exceptional hosts, and the hiking phenomenal. We knew to stop at a grocery store in Santa Fe and brought food to grill on the deck and cook in the full size kitchen. The cabin was well appointed, and the week flew by. I can say we absolutely did not want to leave. I almost hate to rave about this hidden gem because so many people will discover the beauty of its location. We will DEFINITELY be back! Thank you for sharing your home with us Grace and Felix!

Perfect for a Northern New Mexico getaway

  • 5 of 5

The Canons Cabin was clean and well-appointed, with gracious hosts, and absolutely beautiful surroundings. We appreciated the little homey touches, such as nice quilts and interesting artwork on the walls. Already looking for dates for our next visit. As seasoned NM travelers, we were looking to be off the beaten path, but within comfortable driving distance (an hour, or so) of some of the more popular Northern New Mexico spots, in case we wanted dinner in Chimayo or to wander the plaza in Santa Fe. This little cabin fit the bill perfectly. We drove the beautiful forest roads north of Gallina, headed up to the Ghost Ranch area and explored the Echo Amphitheater, attended feast day dances at the Pueblo Ohkay Owinge (highlight of the trip by far), ate a pretty good pizza from Mamacita's, devoured delicious green chile burgers at Papa Joe's in Gallina, had wonderful meals at La Cocina in Espanola, Rancho de Chimayo, and the Plaza Cafe in Santa Fe. We also visited Napoleon Garcia, the Storyteller, on the Abiquiu plaza, and spent our early mornings and sunsets sitting on the porch of the cabin, overlooking the quiet little village and beautiful scenery. A wonderful visit. Thank you Gracie and Felix!

Sweet cabin in a peaceful valley.

  • 5 of 5

When I walked through the door I felt instantly at home. The hosts are friendly and helpful with anything you need and give you all the space you want to enjoy the quiet and serenity of this peaceful place. I enjoyed the Espanola Fiber Arts Center, the Purple Adobe Lavender Farm the first day I was there and stayed in the rest of the time just enjoying the quiet and the hummingbirds. I would definitely go back again.

We agree with all of the five-star reviews. This is really a fantastic place to stay. The cabin overlooks Canones, and the views of the valley and surrounding hills and mountains are spectacular. We have felt the pull and majesty of Cerro Pedernal during prior visits to the Abiquiu area -- it was a huge treat to wake up our first morning and realize how close the cabin is to Pedernal. Felix and Grace are outstanding hosts: concerned for our comfort, easy-going, friendly, great to talk with about the landscape and history of the area. It snowed our first evening, and they made sure the cabin was warm and all was well.
