The Little House is a converted dairy and is situated next to the farmhouse in the village of Mells, Somerset. It sleeps 2 adults +. The accommodation comprises a sitting room with dining area, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, mezzanine, and off street parking.
The south facing sitting room looks out onto fields and has glass doors opening onto a private terrace with eating area. It has a TV with DVD player. The kitchen is fully fitted with a fridge, dishwasher, combination oven and microwave cooker and small appliances. The bedroom has a king-sized double bed, separate shower-room, and stairs leading to the mezzanine which could accommodate 1-2 children. (Please ask for details). The mezzanine has a desk and chair. The Little House has Wi-Fi.
The newly furnished house has a contemporary modern feel, whilst mixing the new with the old. The renovation, whilst maintaining the old features of the building, incorporates renewable energy to run under floor heatiang and hot water.
The Little House is situated in the village of Mells a largely unspoilt Somerset village built mainly of Bath stone. The village dates back to the 11th century, and is thought to be one of the prettiest in Somerset. It has a traditional pub (The Talbot Inn), a village shop & cafe, a church, and many historic buildings. These are all within walking distance of The Little House.
In the immediate area is the local market town, Frome which has markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Also close by is the historic city of Wells and its magnificent cathedral, hippie heaven Glastonbury, Street (famous for its shopping village), and Longleat House, garden and wildlife park. The Roman city of Bath is about 30 minutes and there is a very good park and ride scheme in operation. There is a lot to see in Bath - the Roman Baths, the Pump Rooms, the Assembly Rooms, the Costume Museum and the excellent shopping.
Further afield, Bristol is about one hours drive, the south coast and its lovely beaches and coastal villages is about 1-2 hours, and the cathedral city of Salisbury and the world heritage site of Stonehenge about one hour away. There is a good bus service in the village with buses every hour to Frome and Bath.
We absolutely love The Little House - partly because it's so comfortable, and partly because everything has been so considered. The outlook is also beautiful - a very relaxing place to be. Many thanks for making this a good place to be in.
We stayed in the Little Barn for 1 week with our 18-month old son, and it was just perfect. Jane was a welcoming and helpful host, and always very quick to respond to email enquiries. The barn is very spacious, with separate living and kitchen areas, a huge bedroom and mezzanine. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to cook at home (including a dishwasher!). The bathroom was modern, with great water pressure. It was very peaceful and quiet, and our son loved seeing the cows in the neighbouring paddock. Underfloor heating keeps the place nice and cosy, and there's great natural light throughout the day. We'd definitely recommend a stay here! Thanks Jane.
The little barn was a real gem of a find. It was clean modern and well equipped. I had been emailing Jane the owner and found her to be friendly helpful and welcoming on arrival. There was tea coffee and sugar for us in the kitchen. We had stopped off at Asda in local Frome on the way over over to stock up. The kitchen is very well equipped. The fridge is under the counter and the freezer compartment is small but Jane has space in a chest freezer in the garage if required.
The bed is large and comfy, and the on suite wet room is modern. I loved the mezzanine area in the bedroom. The lounge is modern with a corner sofa and flat screen t.v with built in dvd player. There is free wifi which was good, on occasion it needed resetting as the signal was lost. There is no mobile signal in the village so may want to consider this. We didn't mind.
The only downside of our stay was the light that came through into the bedroom in the early morning from the velux windows. The sun comes up on this side of the house and moves around to the patio area for the rest of the day so the owners may not be aware of the issue, but I woke up early due to this and had to invest in an eye mask. I really recommend investing in black out blinds for these. It didn't spoil my stay though on occasion I had an afternoon power nap.
We decided to spend a week in the Somerset as it's not somewhere we have been to often and Mells is a gorgeous village and is a great point to explore the area. It's a lovely village with pretty houses and a village shop. There is a pub the Talbot and a walled garden with cafe. We explored the beautiful church yard and strolled around. Frome is the local town which has everything you need. We visited Cheddar Gorge and Caves and also Longleat.
We recommend Longleat for a day out, we had a guided tour of the house and drove around the safari park. I especially enjoyed feeding the sea lions from the boat on the lake. Cheddar Cheddar gorge was interesting but expensive for what there is.
We were lucky with the weather and only had 2 rainy days so we spent time on the patio and visiting the locals cows in the adjoining field.
We had a lovely stay and would recommend it to anyone.
Where to start... Firstly, the communication before and during our stay was exceptional and we were made to feel very welcome.
The barn itself is a lovely, warm and cosy conversion finished to a really high standard - the underfloor heating is to die for. A perfect stay for a couple wanting to get away from the fast lane... Surprisingly nice to switch the phone off for once.
No question that we will be recommending this property to our friends and family!
We had a very good time in this "Little Barn".
Very quiet surrounding, your neighbours are some cows.
The house is very comfortable and everything you need is there.
Good bed and also the shower is all right.
The owner gives you a warm welcome and is helpful if necessary.
There is a welcome gift as well: coffee, tea and sugar.
We are sure to come back someday!
