Chalet Candamo is a luxurious new 5-bedroom chalet conversion in the center of Mürren, a traffic-free village; refurbished in 2010 to offer spacious and luxurious accommodation for 10 people, stylishly decorated and furnished, and intelligently designed for practical convenience and comfort. The top floor of the chalet is given over to a splendid living space open to the eaves in the dining/living area where two sets of French windows open on to a balcony facing one of the most famous views in the Swiss Alps: the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau Mountains. The heavy oak dining table seats 10 with elbow room and 3 comfortable sofas are grouped around the glassed in wood burning fire.
Guests will notice many personal and homely touches in the chalet and those with an interest in skiing history will notice many decorative details recalling pre-War Mürren's historic role as one of the cradles of competitive Alpine skiing: old skis on the wall, old photographs, rooms named after old ski runs.
The ground floor has the main entrance door which leads into a front hall with coat hooks and shoe racks. There are two large bedrooms, one bath/shower room, laundry room, and a boot room with an outside door opening almost onto the piste.
The first floor comprises two super king size rooms with balcony, one double bedroom, one bath/shower room, one shower room/WC and one WC.
The top floor, the main living area, is open to the eaves, a south facing mainly glass aspect with a large balcony. It also has a shower room/WC, a semi open plan kitchen and a television room with a sofa bed which could double as a cooks bedroom if needed.
What a lovely place to stay in Murren! The chalet is indeed luxurious but still comfortable and homey. A full kitchen with all the gadgets that you need. Tons of well furnished bedrooms and bathrooms.
The local lady in charge of the place is really lovely and helpful. The town is amazing to stay in the summer- a different hike every day and paragliding to boot. Highly recommend both the chalet and Murren!
(We stayed the first night at the base of the hill in Lauterbrunnen. Next time I would skip that town- stay in Interlakken instead if you don't think you will make it to Murren in time.)
Our stay in Murren was absolutely wonderful. The chalet is well appointed, the beds, decor, kitchen...all highest quality. The transaction went very smooth, our stay could not have gone better. We were very impressed by the home, the views and the little village. We traveled with seven children and four adults...we fit comfortably. Listing description accurate, property was very clean and well maintained. Highly recommend and would definitely rent here again.
Our stay at the Chalet Candamo was the perfect place to start our family's European vacation! We couldn't believe how amazing the views were from the balcony of the chalet, just breathtaking. And the house itself was perfectly equipped for our family of 6 adults. The beds were SO comfortable and the bedding very luxurious, like staying at a high end hotel. The kitchen was very well stocked and the family room/dining area was beautifully decorated and provided the ideal spot for us all to gather. With multiple bathrooms and bedrooms, there was plenty of privacy for everyone. And we loved the location right in the middle of Murren - a short walk to the store, the athletic center, and great restaurants (we enjoyed the barbeque at Bellevue very much). We had such a memorable stay there, hiking the Northface trail, going to the top of the Schilthorn, and just taking in all the glorious views! The owner, Edwina, was wonderful to work with and got back to me quickly with answers to all my questions - Anne-Marie was also super helpful in arranging to have some basic food supplies there for us when we arrived. The only negative was that we weren't there longer. If we are ever able to return to Murren again, this chalet would be my first choice of where to stay!
We spent 5 nights in Murren at Chalet Candamo after visiting Spain. It was perfect for our 6 adults and was central to every thing. The house is modern and well equipped. Beautiful mountain views from almost all rooms. Anne-Marie , the onsite manager is terrific and helpful. She also can recommend guided walks, cheese farms, etc. She went above and beyond to get us a birthday cake from the bakery from the next village. Enjoy this sample of what it would be like to live in the beautiful Alps! Note - recommend to get "holiday pass" as it covers ALL gondolas/train and Schilthorn for 140FR for 6 days. A very good deal if you are going to use all the lifts/gondolas in the summer. Schilthorn alone is 102FR for one time. You can get it at Stechelberg or Lauterbrunnen stations (not ahead). thank you for a great trip!
We had gorgeous weather to appreciate the gorgeous mountains.
Enjoyed hiking through the wildflowers serenaded by cow bells!
The village has a nice athletic facility and the children enjoyed the pool and mini-golf and the big chess set
Kitchen was very well stocked with baking and cooking items
Chalet Candamo provided a memorable week for our family reunion! The views right from our balcony were incredible and the weather cooperated the entire time! The kitchen was well stocked to cook all our meals. The store was a 2 minute walk away and provided everything needed including a delicious GF bread. AnneMarie was most helpful in helping to solve the mystery of our lost luggage after 3 days not appearing! We loved the Northface Trail(with the playground at the top of the Allemhuebel Lift!), Mountain View, Adventure Trail for the kids, the panoramic view from Schilthorn was superb! Plenty of walks to keep us happy. Our favorite restaurant was the Bellevue where we could sit out on their patio for our evening meal and they could cater to our gluten free needs. The only reason I didn't give this a 5 star rating is that I was disappointed in the owner's response in not giving us a discount for the horrible nauseating odor that emanated from the kitchen most of our stay. Granted it was beyond her control but I believe one was in order! She offered one for our NEXT stay but as this was a large family get together, it would be impossible to all come back the following year.
