About Ruth Nisco and Scott Lowry
Scott and Ruth met in 2015 thru an online dating site and have been together ever since. They discovered that they shared the dream of getting out of the rat race and settling somewhere out of the city. Scott and Ruth love getting creative in the outdoors; gardening, animals, photography, trail blazing, and the idea of creating a homestead are some of their passions. Scott is a native Washingtonian and graduate of UW. He worked many years at Boeing in Washington and Arizona, he has also been a firefighter, a scuba diver, and the best barista ever! Scott is also one of the biggest Seahawks fans on the planet! Ruth was born in Hawaii and also lived in Washington D.C., but most of her life has been in the Seattle area. She does prefer the sunny life of Hawaii, but has become enchanted with the rainy forest of Harstine Island! Ruth recently graduated with a degree in graphic design and finds her new life on the island inspirational.

Why Ruth Nisco and Scott Lowry chose Shelton
The summer of 2016 Ruth & Scott started looking for some property to purchase away from the big city of Seattle. Their search lead them to the little known island called Harstine. They booked a weekend at the Huckleberry House, then owned by Jim and Wilma. It was love at first site and to their amazement, Jim and Wilma were looking to sell! They were hoping to find someone who loved and appreciated the property and who also would keep the VRBO cabin going. After renting the main house and managing the cabin for them for the last six months, Ruth & Scott have been able to purchase the property and are now the proud owners of the Huckleberry Cabin and Trails. Ruth and Scott enjoy sharing their beautiful piece of earth with others, and hope that everyone who visits the Huckleberry Cabin feels the magic too!

My favorite VRBO!
My family and I have visited the huckleberry house many times and we enjoy ourselves so much. We just love the area. Ruth and Scott are such wonderful hosts. Each time we return there are lovely little updates that make our trip that much more special than the last. I just can’t say enough good things, you should check it out for yourselves. Take a walk around the property and you will be hooked too. I always sleep so well on our visits. You can’t help but feel relaxed and rejuvenated with the peace and quiet of the forest around you. Can’t wait to book our next adventure. Thanks again for an awesome weekend.
We love coming to the cabin, being able to relax in the quiet woods. All the necessary amenities, plus the luxury of the hot tub - it combines to create an absolutely perfect getaway.
Quiet little cabin in the woods of Harstine Island
My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights in September. We're glad we choose this place! The kitchen area gave us what we needed to prepare food and store food in the cabin. Bed was comfortable, cabin was clean and tastefully decorated. The hot tub was really relaxing to use at the end of each day - the homeowners even had extra sandals and towels. The cabin is located in a wooded area that is quite scenic and lush with temperate rain forest vegetation. If and when we visit this area of the country again, we would stay at this place in a heartbeat!
Charming, rustic getaway
Really enjoyed my stay at the Huckleberry House. It was a perfect get away from it all experience. The cabin was super comfortable and well stocked. The hammocks were great for lounging as was the backyard firepit. There aren't a lot of local food options so recommend coming stocked with what you need, although I did visit a local farm on the Island and bought amazing veggies and just laid eggs. The zucchini bread was great and much appreciated. It is a short walk to a lovely beachfront with Adirondack chairs where i hung out with visiting friends. Again, can't say enough about how charming and perfect everything was.
A cute clean hideaway in the woods with so much charm.
The owners were just so sweet and wonderful.Everything you need was there. The charm was over the top.
I took my girls (age 14 and 10) for a couple nights and we had a terrific time. This is a perfect cabin with wonderful decor and comforts. The forest area surrounding the cabin is absolutely beautiful. Many paths to walk, frogs to find, hammocks to relax (and play) in. Will definitely be coming back to see the forest during different seasons. Highly recommend!
