Landmark Historic German farmstead on 5 acres inside the city!

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,904 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

This historic turn-of-the-century limestone rock home is set in a verdant pecan orchard, yet it is actually inside the city of Fredericksburg and just 3 minutes from Main Street. This bucolic 5 acre property is a "throwback", being what remains of a 30+ acre farm established by German immigrants in the 1800s. Texas Dall sheep and native whitetail deer graze in a pastoral scene that effectively becomes your own personal enclave (throw out some corn for them if you don't mind).

Experience the bustle of Main Street, tour Wine Road 290, take in some tunes at Luckenbach, hike Enchanted Rock, experience the Nimitz Museum, or encounter any of the numerous other unique Fredericksburg offerings, then return to this sanctuary. Relax and refuel.

This is a very cool old house with tons of charm, but it does NOT have all the amenities of typical B&Bs. For example the bathrooms are just regular tub and shower combinations. There is no hot tub. There is NO CABLE TV and NO WIFI (other than perhaps what you bring with you on your personal cell phone). There is a large flatscreen TV where, if you are technical, you can connect your computer or other device if so inclined. It receives a few over-the-air channels, but no prime channels.

The house has quite a lot of character and most guests should find it fitting for their needs and expectations if the goal is to tour, see the sights, experience Fredericksburg and then afterwards have a kind of old-world place to relax with lots of "elbow room". If you are coming to see the Hill Country rather than the TV, this could be the place for you!

Great house! Great price! Quiet location!

This house is great! Lots of character and perfect for a small group! The goats in the field behind the house were very entertaining to watch and the fire pit was a favorite spot during our trip!

Owner's Response: Thanks for staying with us Jeff. We love sharing the house with family groups. I trust Heather has received the left-behind-item that I mailed on Monday. Thank you so much for leaving the place in such good order. Please come again.

Perfect place to stay and relax in Fredericksburg

  • 5 of 5

We used Bill's house for a small family reunion and had an outstanding stay. Property is close to Main Street, but in a quiet and relaxing area of town. It had everything needed to accommodate and feed our family. House is very comfortable, clean, well appointed, and has a nice rustic, historic vibe. The kids really enjoyed feeding the Dall sheep that live on the back half of the property. Great place for guests with pets. Plenty of room outside for dogs and there are a couple of pens outside that can used when you go to town. Bill was an outstanding host. Highly recommend this property.

Beautiful and historic!!

  • 5 of 5

A group of us girls went to Fredericksburg for a low key bachelorette weekend at the wineries and this was the perfect place for us to stay!! The home is charming and cozy with plenty of room for the 9 of us. The beds were so comfortable and the house had everything we needed to enjoy a fun and relaxing weekend stay away from home. I would definitely recommend staying here!

Every detail of this house my sisters and I adore. The owner thought of everything we could possibly need. All the cooking supplies, some groceries, spices, chopped firewood. You name it! Every time I’d need something... there it was. In a rental, sometimes the microwave is confusing, or the stove is tricky. Or the air conditioning is not so great . Not here! Clean fresh beautiful. Love the friendly pack of goats in the back yard! So cool!

Everything was wonderful. The owners made sure the house was inviting and had literally everything we needed. There is a lovely fire pit out back they even stocked with fire wood for us to enjoy.

Car: necessary

This property has an authentic country atmosphere, but is inside the city and relatively convenient to all local attractions. The surrounding Texas Hill Country is a popular vacation destination. The area draws visitors for outdoor recreational opportunities afforded by lakes, hills, rivers and other natural resources. The attractive historic downtown district of Fredericksburg, plentiful shopping, abundant restaurants and the numerous vacation rental properties has invited visitors for years. This area has been a vacation destination for many years, but the relatively recent emergence of the wine and craft spirits industry has increased interest for visitors. Texas in general, but this area in particular, is gaining a reputation for growing high-quality grapes and producing world-class, award-winning wines. Fredericksburg and the Hill Country wine region has become a favorite destination for wine enthusiasts, with numerous wineries, breweries, distilleries and tasting rooms, representing local wine and spirits, plus wine from other regions of Texas and from around the world.
