Fab location

  • 3 of 5

The cottage is very quaint and bijoux, and in an excellent location for many walks from the front door.

The kitchen is small, but very well equipped with all the utensils, baking trays and crockery you need.

The bathroom is a lovely size with plenty of hot water. We found it hard with only having one bath towel, and as the heating was off as it was summer, the towels never dried properly so became rather smelly. A couple of bath sheets per person would have made this nicer and feel a bit more luxurious.

As the cottage is nestled into the hillside, it was a bit damp and sometimes smelled. We bought a gel air freshener, which went someway to making it more pleasant!

There were signs telling us not to change the heating settings, and the radiators were off, but the electric fire in the lounge worked well at providing a burst of heat in the evening. (It was fairly chilly, even in July!)

There is no wifi at the property - it was actually nice to switch off for a week. But there is also no mobile signal or 3G/4G, so just be prepared to be without any form of communication!

Upon returning home each night, we took a cup of tea and sat outside in the bench by the river. There is no outside seating at the cottage, but this was a lovely spot to relax after a day's walking.

All in all, the cottage was cute and provided an excellent base for a walking holiday. For us, the damp, the heating situation and the towels led us to give a rating of 3 stars.

Owner's Response: With regards to heating it's obviously not usually on during the summer months, but this being England we never know what the weather is going to be like. A phone call on either of my 2 numbers provided at the cottage and I could have provided instruction on how to turn on the heating. The heating information applies to not altering the times the the heating is set to switch on and off at. One bath towel each has been sufficient for previous guests, but I can understand there may be drying issues if the weather is not favourable. The cottage isn't damp and none of our previous guests have raised this as an issue, old solid stone buildings do not have the characteristics of modern insulated properties, this needs to be considered.

Lovely, clean cottage in a pretty village

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was very well presented, clean with everything we needed. The fresh flowers were a lovely touch. The cottage is in a pretty village with easy access to walking and we were able to start walks from the cottage without needing to use the car. Car parking was easy in the residents' car park. We thoroughly enjoyed our week and would definitely return to the Old Miller's Cottage

Lovely cottage in the perfect location. Great walks on the door step with stunning views. A walk along the river is a must, followed by an ice cream at the local shop.

I loved our stay at Old Millers Cottage. Great space, perfect for our 3 day stay.

Went hiking and fly fishing right out the front door. An unforgettable memory.

Thank you Ant for a wonderful visit. We will return.
