Historic Marigny neighborhood, New Orleans, next to the French Quarter

Bedrooms 4
Space 1,200 sq ft
Property type guest house
Minimum Stay 3 - 5 nights

About the property

5 bedroom, 2 bath, 2nd floor space with kitchen/dining room

My place is close to the most lively music scene in the city, just a block away on Frenchmen Street, and 3 blocks from the heartbeat of the city, the French Quarter. You'll experience all the excitement downtown New Orleans has to offer, and come back to a peaceful and restful environment when you've had your fill of music, food, and drink. My place is good for families and groups, and since you'll have the whole space, you won't be disturbing anyone if your group is up late.

The guesthouse is on the second floor, while the first floor is our lovely little Thai restaurant, SukhoThai, which closes at 10pm. We have 5 rooms, with 4 queen beds, and one queen sofa bed. The room with the sofa bed can be joined with one of the queen bedrooms or separated for privacy.

Guests will have a separate entrance from the business, available to use any time of day or night, and will need to access the rooms by stairs, so unfortunately we do not have an accessible entrance for wheelchairs. Entry is by keypad and a key is also available. The area where the guest rooms are located is along a hallway which is also locked for privacy from the restaurant below. The guests will have most of the second floor for their sole use, though there is a small manager's office upstairs in a space separate from the guest room area.

The bedrooms do not have private bathrooms. Just down the hall is a men's bathroom and a ladies' bathroom. These rooms are for use by our guests only, and are each equipped with shower, toilet and lavatory. We provide towels, soap and shampoo in the bedrooms for guest use. We also provide slippers for use in the rooms and hall so that shoes can be left in front of the bedroom.

The kitchen is just for the guesthouse, and is equipped with microwave, coffee maker, toaster, refrigerator, dishwasher, dining table and other seating. We do not have a stove for cooking on the premises. We generally stock the kitchen with some light breakfast options for our guests.

Marigny is an historic neighborhood along the New Orleans riverfront, just downriver from the French Quarter. The Royal Elysian is just a block away from the most lively jazz music scene, Frenchmen Street, where you'll find Three Muses, The Spotted Cat, Snug Harbor, DBA, Blue Nile, and many more. We are also just three blocks from the French Quarter, but far enough to get away from the hustle and bustle.

A few blocks walk to the riverfront will bring you to Crescent Park, with dramatic views of the downtown skyline amid remnants of the old working wharves, and a few blocks walk in the other direction will take you to the new Rampart Streetcar line. Within a three block radius of our Guesthouse, you'll find numerous restaurants and coffee shops with old New Orleans charm. Much to explore and enjoy!

Our Guesthouse is very close and convenient to get around the historic areas of the city. You can rent a bike from A Bicycle Named Desire just across the way and join a tour or explore the beautiful Marigny/Bywater area on your own, or ride 15 minutes down picturesque Esplanade Avenue's bike paths to the oaks and bayous of City Park.

Bus stops in front of our building will take you to Canal Street and the Aquarium of the Americas, or take you to the Lake Pontchartrain and the University of New Orleans lakefront campus. Walk a few blocks to the new Rampart Streetcar Line, where you can ride to the Canal Street shopping district, the Louisiana Superdome, and the Greyhound/Amtrak terminal, or you can connect to the St. Charles Avenue line to tour the stately mansions and universities of the Garden District/Uptown. You can also walk six or so blocks to the Riverfront streetcar line which reaches Harrah's casino, the Riverwalk Outlet Mall, and the Convention Center.

We have only street parking, but it is not so difficult to find a place to park, usually right in front of our building.

About Supreeya Scarmuzza

Hello, and welcome to New Orleans! I have lived in this wonderful city for 20 years with my husband, a 4th generation New Orleanian, and our two boys. We live nearby the guesthouse, and we love life downtown, where we can walk to the French Quarter, ride bikes to City Park, and meander down to the Mississippi River parks. This city is more lively than ever, and we look forward to sharing it with you.

Why Supreeya Scarmuzza chose Faubourg Marigny

We love historic buildings and bringing them back to life. This building was an old bakery by the railroad, and at 170 years+, its one of the oldest buildings in the neighborhood. We worked hard to restore it to its original character, and we won an Award of Excellence from the Louisiana Landmark Society for the renovation in 2015. We hope you enjoy it!

What makes this guest house unique

You will find our location to provide an optimum of convenience for transportation, arrival, and walking access to everything. We are just on the cusp between the tourist center of New Orleans, and one of the most ecclectic of its non-tourist neighborhoods. There are so many things to explore and do around the area, we know you will have a memorable experience.

Great place for a big group!

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of ten that had an absolutely wonderful time here. The owners were really great about getting us whatever we needed, which wasn't much because they had everything there for us. Bottled water in the fridge? No problem. They even re-stocked it when we ran out. There were fresh muffins for breakfast which were quickly eaten, fresh milk and emergency coffee. There are coffee shops everywhere so we weren't much interested in a Kuerig but it was nice to have it. Beds are super comfy and the rooms are lovely. It's a great location for Jazz Fest, Frenchmen St and all the new stuff happening in Marigny and Bywater. There are three bike shops within one block. We used Alex's behind us. Having the restaurant downstairs was really convenient too. Happy hour is every afternoon from 4-7 and we would grab to-go cocktails every day. We also ate dinner there and it was really, really good! A couple of us even ordered late night food before they closed and they delivered it at the door so it would be waiting for them when they got home at 2AM! Highly recommend for a big group.

Highly Recommend

  • 5 of 5

The property was very clean and convenient. Walking distance to several popular places and transportation is right there. Parking was also not a problem which is not always the case in New Orleans. The kitchen was well appointed and we had plenty of linens and little extras. Checking in and out was super easy and completely hassle free. I would recommend and we would stay again. Couldn’t have asked for more.

Beautiful Great location near Frenchmen Street and all the best NOLA music

  • 5 of 5

I recommend staying at this VRBO just one block away from the best music in New Orleans. The owners are very accommodating and quick to respond. The food at the Thai restaurant below our rental is delicious, and I highly recommend eating there. The rooms were comfortable and spacious and well decorated. I recommend bringing a sleeping mask if you want to sleep late, however.

The host was helpful and very accommodating to our group needs. She checked in once via email to ensure everything was going well. The living quarters and bathrooms were very clean. Great location and within walking distance to bourbon street. Our group felt safe in this area. Only issue we had was with the showers. When they were both used at the same time sometimes the water would cut off for 15 to 30 seconds. There is no oven which our group forgot to look for before getting some food items. Generally, our group was happy with the stay and would gladly stay here again.
