We stayed at Pirate Lookout for three nights over New Years as a party of 6 adults. The house is in beautiful location, very peaceful and great views with coastal walks within minutes of leaving the property. We ventured out to Hastings for dinner on our first night which was less than £10 by taxi. The other nights we stayed in and cooked and the kitchen in the house is well stocked with most items needed to cook with. We did forget to bring one or two items which Cecilia did kindly bring over to us. The house has a good communal space and we felt we had plenty of room with 6 six adults, we had one person sleeping in the living room, three in the main bedroom and two in the downstairs double.
The road leading down to the house is a bit rough but I made it down and back a couple of times in my Vauxhall Astra with no damage so it is definitely do-able. The house has no phone signal (which for the most part is a good thing) but did make it very difficult ordering a taxi into town. But if you are more prepared you can book ahead or arrange something over the wifi.
All in all we had a great weekend and really enjoyed our stay at Pirates Lookout.
Spent 3 nights here as a family of 3 adults and 1 toddler; the cottage was near enough perfect for our needs. We had everything we needed provided by our hosts on arrival and the cottage was spotlessly clean. Bed and bath facilities were first rate; All in all, a very memorable stay indeed.
You can pretty much find everything you need for a stay-cation in the property and the massive balcony will be amazing for during the summer. I was there as a party of 3 but the property is definitely big enough for more people. Highly recommended and will definitely go back again!
Had an enjoyable weekend at the property. Excellent area for dog walking and very private and peaceful. My only criticism is the track leading down to the cottage is very narrow and bumpy. We had an SUV so were fine but for anyone with low profile tyres or low down chassis, i would advise extreme caution as potentially you could damage the underbody, exhaust etc of your vehicle.
Very well thought out and well equipped with a wonderful terrace that has sunshine all day long (weather permitting, obviously !!)
With it's own gated parking and setting amongst the trees, it feels very private and relaxing.
We've stayed in many self catering properties over the last 7-8 years - this is probably the favourite out of all of them.
We stayed for a week together with our family who live in London. It was a magical stay, and we had the chance to get to know our 8 month old grandson much better than we ever could on our weekend visits from our home in Manchester. The gardens and set up of Pirates Lookout provided beautiful safe surroundings where we could enjoy being together, but the benefits of two bathrooms and bedrooms meant we had some luxury as well.
Some excellent places to visit, all within 30 mins; Hastings, Rye, Battle with outstanding views from Fairlight village.
It's the first time we have taken a property rather than a hotel stay, and it was fantastic.
The owner has thought of everything and the property is everything we could have wanted and then some.
Fairlight is a coastal village in East Sussex under 2 hours from London, Heathrow & Gatwick airports, under one hour from Folkstone & Dover and less than half hour from Rye, Battle and Hastings. The cottage is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty with extensive country & sea views at the door step of the huge coastal National Country Park. Canber Sands and Winchelsea beaches are nearby. Take a walk through Battle Castle, the fire hills of Hastings, or the winding cobbled lanes of Rye. Just across the border of Kent is Tenterden, a town of elegance and has the attraction of the Chapel Down Winery. There are lovely villages and stately homes and gardens near by such as the world famous Sissinghurst Castle, Great Dixter and medieval Bodiam Castle. Take a picnic using the Kent & East Sussex Railway pulled by steam locomotive through the beautiful country side. Unwind the day in the tranquil environment of the cottage with its private meadows, gardens, terraces.
