Escape to this private, charming, up north cabin overlooking 8th Crow Wing Lake

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,400 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

Enjoy this thoughtfully detailed lake cabin for your summer getaway. All the amenities of home but with the slowness and charm of the north.

Perched on the crest of a hill overlooking 8th Crow Wing Lake, the views are stunning, peaceful, and ideal for bird lovers to observe nature in action. With expansive windows in every room, you can enjoy the outdoors from the light filled comfort of indoors. Or sit on the large deck and take in the hum of motor boats, loon calls, and humming birds zooming by. You will feel refreshed as soon as you walk in the door of this well loved cabin.

The property has much to offer. With one neighbor separated by woods, you will feel secluded and away from it all. A winding pebble path leads you down to the lake, where you'll find a large dock for swimming, fishing or just sitting with a cup of coffee or glass of wine. There is a public boat launch on the opposite side of the lake and guests are welcome to tie up to the dock. Back up on top of the hill, take advantage of the large fire pit and yard activities, like bag toss (games provided).

Bring your bikes and explore the Heartland trail. Our favorite tour is from Akley to Walker, it's a beautiful stretch of the trail and Walker has a downtown with lots of shops and parks that are fun to explore. Another great day trip is to start in Nevis, bike to Dorset for a treat at the Dorset House, famous for their ice cream sundays, then end back at the Iron Horse in Nevis for delicious BBQ dinner.

No matter what your pleasure, we think you'll have a great time getting to know the cabin and the area. We would love to share this special place with you.

About Katy Dale

I grew up spending my summer at this cabin while my dad built it from the ground up! This was truly a labor of love for my mom and dad and was their get-away for 25 years. My mom is no longer with us and my husband and I have taken over the cabin. I'm an architectural designer in Minneapolis and we spent 2016 fixing it up into a true retreat, now with modern conveniences like a dishwasher (so excited!) and large water heater (no more 1 minute showers!). We love the process of making homes beautiful and functional and feel rewarded when others get to enjoy that work. So we decided to start sharing the cabin so you can make this your special retreat too, and hope you will fall in love with it and keep coming back so we can continue to make improvements for all of us to enjoy. We look forward to sharing this unique place with you.

Katy Dale purchased this cabin in 1985

Nice Cabin

  • 4 of 5

This was a nice cabin to stay in with all the needs for modern technology. We stayed in the late fall and spent our evenings by the fire to keep warm. Nice little area to do so. The foosball table was a big hit for our young one and a reminder of college for us older folk. Great view to sit inside, warm and cozy, and watch the snow fly over the lake. Thanks for nice place to stay.

Lovely cabin with spectacular views of the lake

  • 5 of 5

The Hillside Hideaway cabin is a gem! The windows in the cabin give you a panoramic view of the lake. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets and a night sky full of stars. The owner provided all the amenities needed for an enjoyable vacation. The town of Nevis is close by if you should need something and Leona's offers a great pizza! Katy has all the information you need about the cabin and the surrounding area well organized. She was easy to work with and quick to respond to questions we had before booking our stay. We hope to make a return trip soon.

Cozy, clean and complete! This trip was just what we needed and the Hillside Hideaway provided stunning Lake view, easy access to many portions of the North Country Scenic Trail, comfy bed and best of all our dogs were welcome so we all enjoyed many hikes with our pups.

We definitely want to book early for next year's visit.

Hillside Hideaway - Loved it

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Hilltop Hideaway in September was amazing. The cabin is every bit as beautiful as the pictures indicate. There are windows and beautiful views in every direction. The kitchen is well equipped with views of the wooded area around. The windows in the living room/dining room have lovely views of the lake. There are so many thoughtful details that make the cabin special. We enjoyed hours of relaxing time on the deck overlooking the lake. We brought our canoe and the lake is a perfect size for canoeing. There is also access to 9th Crow Wing Lake to the North. The pre-arrival guide, welcome information and out-and-about information provided by Katy Dale are thorough and very helpful. We would add the Historical Museum in Park Rapids as an attraction worth seeing. We really appreciated the fact that this is a pet friendly cabin. Our two small dogs loved it. We will be back!

Treehouse Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay at this cabin. Our family of four including two sons and my parents enjoyed a week at this cabin August 2018. The cabin was just as great as I was hoping it would be. Everything was true to the pictures online, if not better in person. Our sons just loved the lower level including the bunkbeds and foosball table. Everything was clean and tidy when we arrived. We enjoyed reading books and watching movies in the living room. The weather was a bit cooler and rainy than most Augusts, but I will say that made for the best napping in the Sunset Room. The mattresses and pillows were super comfortable. We also enjoyed the view of the lake from the cabin. Our sons enjoyed fishing off the dock. Kayaking was also fun for our sons who got to try it out for the first time ever. We saw and heard loon calls while on the lake, as well as from the cabin. The cabin was close to Park Rapids and Walker which made for fun day trips and shopping with my mom. The owners have a great little book at the cabin with recommendations for activities, restaurants and bike trails. We very much enjoyed staying at this cabin and hope to stay there again soon.

And I'm glad you mentioned the loons, that is one of our favorite sounds of the cabin. Thanks so much for staying and we look forward to having you back!

Relaxing retreat

  • 5 of 5

Totally enjoyed this getaway spot! We've been going up north every summer for 26 years and had never been to this area, we loved it! The cabin was a nice retreat. It was well stocked with anything you could need for the week. It was very comfortable and clean. Much thought has been put into this little escape. Katy sent us information about the cabin and the location with many suggestions of things to do, before arriving. It was nice to have the info ahead of time and research the area before our vacation started. We visited several spots she suggested and had a blast! I would highly recommend a getaway here!! Thanks Katy for sharing your lake home with our family!

Nevis, population 301 and home to the worlds largest Tiger Muskie, is just over a 5 minute drive from the cabin. Lot's of small town character to enjoy - Pop'n Chop's Bakery is the newest addition but get there before they sell out! Muskie Waters is a cute coffee and candy shop, The Iron Horse is our favorite BBQ dinner spot. They have a great patio that is bursting with energy on a hot summer night. Nevis hosts the annual Muskie Days, usually at the end of July, with all kinds of activities great for families.

There are many other activities to enjoy in the area. Head up to Itasca State Park, about 45 minutes from the cabin, where you can walk across the Headwaters of the Mississippi! This is a must see! Itasca also offers bike and boat rentals to explore the park, picnic areas and playgrounds.

Golfers can enjoy any of the 5 courses within 10-20 minutes of the cabin. Many offer discounted Twilight rates which can be a beautiful time to be on the course.

Forestedge Winery is a mere 25 minutes from the cabin and is a great way to relax away the afternoon while learning how they take advantage of the fruits Minnesota has to offer.
