Beautiful Villa in Wonderful Location

  • 5 of 5

We have not long returned (reluctantly) from a fab holiday in Villa Magnolia and as one of the other reviewers have already said....the photos really do not do it justice, especially the bedrooms. We were two families (4 adults and 5 children aged from 11 to 17). The villa was extremely spacious, light and airy and the balcony off the living room and kitchen a perfect spot for an early morning cuppa before heading off down the 200 odd steps (:-)) for an early morning swim. The view from the balconies are stunning.

We elected not to hire a car and actually found that everything we needed was in fairly easy reach, if you are reasonably fit and like walking (but don't underestimate the steep driveway to the villa followed by the steps :-)). There was a lovely bakery just down the road and a minimarket a bit further along. For a bigger shop we even walked to and from the supermarket in the shopping centre in Srebreno, but there were buses just down from the villa that stopped near the supermarket or walking along the seafront via a bar was a pleasant alternative to the road and sparse pavements!

The pool was lovely and particularly welcome during Heatwave Lucifer!!

The villa was well-placed to catch the boats/buses to Cavtat and Dubrovnik. We can highly recommend the Elaphite Island/Fish picnic trip and the Dads and some of the children hired Kayaks and went on a trip around the nearby coast which was a highlight of the holiday.

Mlini and Srebreno provided us with all we needed on our doorstep.

Charles was extremely helpful and very flexible throughout and Eci was on hand if we needed anything while we were out there (the air conditioning was a little idiosyncratic but very efficient when working, although the smaller double bedroom did get very hot as it was more exposed to direct sunlight.

We can highly recommend Villa Magnolia. Thanks Charles for providing such a lovely holiday home.

Beautiful Villa

  • 4 of 5

We are just home from a fantastic holiday in Mlini where we stayed in the villa Magnolia. The photos on the website really dont do the house justice as it is really beautiful. There is so much living space, good sized bedrooms and plenty of bathrooms. The view in particular is stunning. The pool doesn't have heating as advertised and for the first few days the weather was quite cool and the pool was extremely cold although it did get better as the week went on and the weather got warmer. The air conditioning had a fault and kept turning off and constantly had to be reset, the agent was aware of this and it had been expected to be fixed but it wasn't while we were there. One of the double bedrooms in particular was exceptionally hot and quite unbearable at night as the weather got hotter. I don't think the air con was working properly in this room but all the other areas were fine apart from having to keep resetting the system. The villa is well equipped and all appliances were in working order. I would definitely recommend this villa, it was very clean and in a great location. If the issues with the AC and pool heating were rectified then it would be the absolute perfect holiday home.

Fantastic Villa

  • 5 of 5

Great villa finished to a high specification. Location was perfect for a walk down the hill to get a boat to all the nearby villages and Dubrovnik. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance, with Flamingo being 100 yards away and a great place to eat.

There was no DVD player as advertised but not too much of an issue. Would highly recommend the villa as a base to explore the Dubrovnik area.

May Stay

  • 4 of 5

My daughter and family stayed in the villa while exploring Dubrovnik and the area. My wife and I had planned to be there but couldn't due to family circumstances. She and family enjoyed the spacious and lovely home. I had picked the place because of the heated pool, location, and price. Unfortunately the pool heating wasn't functional but my daughter didn't complain as the weather was quite cool and they were busy during their time in Croatia. The owner was very accommodating in the follow-up discussions and said the pool could have been fixed if it was mentioned by my daughter.

Owner's Response: Dear Ken, thank you for your review. We did find a fault with the circuit regarding pool heating and had it repaired straight away. I am sorry that your family experienced this issue, but I do hope that the compensation that I offered was appropriate. It is a lovely villa, and you are correct to expect that everything should be in top order. Your family were the first guests who used the pool this season, and the fault that you experienced could not have been foreseen (we have not had that issue before). We did have prior guests, but they swam in the sea (which I find amazing in March!!).

A very spacious villa in an excellent location.

  • 4 of 5

Great alfresco dining on the covered terrace offering lovely views, very good BBQ and lovely pool area. We enjoyed walking down the many steps to the beach and harbour where we caught the boat to Dubrovnic. A very good restaurant down there offering excellent meals. The only downside due to the design of the villa was the ensuite's were a little dark due to not having windows. Otherwise a fantastic villa. Eci was very attentive when we had any problems. Charles Hayes, the owner was very helpful prior to us going out there.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your thoughtful review. I take all comments seriously and I will look to increase the wattage of the lightbulbs in the ensuites where there are no windows. An advantage of where the ensuites are located is that they remain sufficiently cool along with the connected bedrooms in the height of summer with the assistance of the air conditioning. My Agent, Eci, is a star! Always happy to assist and extremely knowledgable as she runs her own local holiday lettings company and has done so for many years.

Perfect in all respects....

  • 5 of 5

This was my second trip to Croatia but first with my young and demanding family! The host, Mr Hayes, dealt exceptionally well with a list of random requests and went out of his way to ensure a pleasant stay was had by all.

The house is huge and very well equipped. It's new and very clean and has all the creature comforts that one would expect of a luxury high end villa. Small details like the high quality linen, towels and toiletries really set this villa apart from some of the others we considered. My boys found no end of excitement exploring new areas of the house and the wonderfully tended gardens surrounding it.

The views from the terrace are outstanding and provided the perfect backdrop for many a barbecue using the vast array of fine locally sourced fresh foods on offer at the local markets.

Mlini itself is a wonderful unspoilt spot with some great walks and superb local eateries. My wife made a point of taking a short walk down the main road to the bakery each morning to bring back some of the famed local bread.

We had such a great time that we are sure to go back again and would not have any hesitation in recommending both the villa and the area to friends and family.

Hats off to Mr Hayes and his team for being such warm and welcoming hosts!

Mlini is 11 km from Dubrovnik and is located in an area called Zupa dubrovacka, known for its rich Mediterranean vegetation. This traditionally agricultural and fishing area is very popular with tourists due to beautiful beaches and landscapes, mild southern climate and Dubrovnik's rich cultural heritage. If you are looking for a quiet holiday and sandy beaches in the vicinity of a large tourist destination, then this is a perfect location. Although the villa is in a quiet area, the general location is excellent for children.

In former times the village was known for its water mills ('Mlini' means 'Mills') because many brooks and streams enabled their use. The brooks with many small falls still pass through the place and are today inhabited by innumerable ducks. During your stay you should also visit the Church of St. Hilarius (1449) and the Chapel of St. Roch which are both in the vicinity of the beach. Remains of Roman buildings can be found on the way to Cavtat. Mlini is part of the touristic resort of Zupa. Sandy beaches, cafes, restaurants and many other touristic activities are available. Ideal is the proximity to Dubrovnik and Cavtat (the local buses pass every 30 minutes). In Mlini you can have both, a restful holiday in a silent Mediterranean place and entertainment in touristic centers.

This is precisely why the owners of Villa Magnolia built it in this location!
