About this property

STUNNING POST AND BEAM HOUSE OVERLOOKING SOMES SOUND, PRIVATE BEACH AND CABINS.

This secluded and quiet 3 acre property at the end of a private road sits on the shores of Somes Sound. Located in the village of Somesville on Mt Desert island, home of Acadia National Park, it is ideally situated between the towns on the eastern half of the island (Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Seal Harbor) and those on the quieter western half (Southwest Harbor, Tremont, Bass Harbor, Bernard). Guests can walk, bike, hike, kayak, and swim (if you like frigid water) right out of the front door. Built in 2012, the property includes the main post and beam house as well as two other cabins, which are rented separately (VRBO # 1013132 and VRBO 1013209) All buildings overlook the water and the private beach. The main house rental does not include the cabins unless you rent them separately. A discount may be offered if you rent all three. Again each of the buildings can be rented singly or together. PLEASE be aware that there may be rental times when all three of the properties are rented to different guests.
The main house is an expansive two levels with a large loft area, large kitchen, two wood burning fireplaces, a half bath and an extensive library. The main floor has two large bedrooms, each with an ensuite bath. The second floor has a separate bedroom with bath and the loft area has two built in beds as well as a futon. The back of the house is oriented towards the water and the views are stunning. The private beach has a large stone firepit - perfect for lobster bakes or hot dogs and s'mores. There is another round stone firepit on the lawn. The Monson slate patio is the perfect spot for relaxing and watching your guests canoe and kayak or even watching the sailing races that occur throughout the season. Two sea kayak are available for guests to use. The loons have been known to make their presence known - the best spot to hear them is the casita bedroom.

Location is perfect
Beautiful house right on Somes Sound. Must do the fire pit every night, it’s very peaceful. The Home owner (Arax) couldn’t be more accommodating. She was wonderful to work with. Be respectful of the house because it’s a privilege to stay at such a great home. Can’t say enough. Thanks Arax

Beautiful Home on the Somes Sound
We went with our 2 children and their families to celebrate my 60th birthday. The home is beautiful inside with a kitchen unlike any we have had in our vrbo experiences. It also has stunning views of the somes sound that change with the weather and the tides. Our bedroom had sunrise views we couldn't beat anywhere. It was a perfect location for all of the hiking and biking we wanted to do, and we brought paddle boards from home that we used daily on the sound. Our grandchildren spent as much time as they could down by the rocks discovering what the tides left behind. Arax is a wonderful host who gave us a beautiful gift basket with wine and cheese and local favorites and answered any questions we had immediately. We did have to put a few things up out of reach of the grandchildren but we had an amazing experience and would go back to this home without question.

Paradise
The perfect home in a perfect location. We enjoyed our stay so much! The house is even better than pictured which I didn't think was possible. There were so many special areas arranged for either great big family gatherings or multiple spaces for the teens to watch movies while the grandparents read books or had a quiet cup of coffee in the library. We enjoyed incredible sunrises and fires down by the water at night. The hostess was so thoughtful even provided us a lovely basket of local wine and cheese assortments for our arrival as well as coffee and pastries for our first morning. I wished for nothing, except maybe another week!

Amazing Property
We had a large group including my parents, siblings, and many children in varying ages! We had an amazing time and plenty of space for all of us!! Cooking in the kitchen was perfect! Arax left a very thoughtful welcome basket and provided all kinds of information about the island. Her home was absolutely beautiful! The only thing I can say besides perfection is it is not necessarily infant/toddler friendly due to the beautiful decor. I did have a large kids playpen that was a life saver for that aspect; and there was plenty of space to set it up!! Also on the baby note it has all stand up showers! Even knowing the baby side of it I wouldn't have chosen another place because everything else was so perfect!!! Thanks again Arax for everything and sharing your home with us!!

We have been coming to Mt Desert island for over 45 years. Much of our lives have been spent elsewhere but this was the one constant amidst the change.

Why they chose this property

This house was built to entertain friends and family alike be they from far or near. The land was chosen by the owner's father for its proximity to the water and its stunning views of Somes Sound and Sargent Mountain.

What makes this property unique

This area of Maine is truly unique. The presence of Acadia National Park has allowed the area to remain relatively unchanged and that has allowed a quiet that other tourist areas do not share.
