RUTA DE LOS CASTILLOS DE VALLADOLID
Valladolid has a good number of castles scattered throughout its province. The majority belong to the so-called "School of Valladolid". These castles began to be built in the second half of the fifteenth century, following the model established in royal fortresses, such as the Alcazar de Segovia or Medina del Campo. The great stately families will respond to this reform with their own constructions, following the same paths as their predecessors. But most of those belonging to this school, were owned by "new rich" of the time, plebeians come to good who tried to make a dent among the high Valladolid lineage. They are authentic copies to scale of the great stately castles.
Here, the castles will no longer fulfill a function of strength, as they had until now, but will become palaces and residences. The towers of the homage will tend to be obsolete, thanks to the appearance of the artillery.
The itinerary will allow you to visit different districts of Valladolid and not only to appreciate its castles, but also to go through gastronomic routes such as the Cigales route or the Ribera del Duero route; to breathe the most spiritual airs through its monasteries or the valuable altarpieces of its churches or to soften itself with the sonorous silence of the páramo
