Turn of the Century cottage owned by the same family since 1920
About Grace K
I've summered full time in this cottage since 1979 when my parents inherited it from my grandparents. My Grandparents purchased the cottage in the early 1920's and my mom and her family enjoyed summers there while living in White River Junction, Vermont. My 4 brothers and I enjoyed it since we were little, learning how to swim, water ski, knee board and later tube. After mom passed in 2012 and then dad in 2015, the 5 of us were left the property. One brother Chris lives here on the left side of the property. which is a separate home. My husband and I were able to buy out my brothers enabling us to keep it in the family,.
Grace K purchased this Cottage in 2017
Why Grace K chose Enfield
This property is so special to me as it's been a part of my life since I was a baby and my mom was a baby. We've had so much fun over the years swimming, boating and walking out on it in the winter. My parents retired up here from NY and just loved it! They ran it as a B@ B for over 15 years opening their home to many guests. The best family times were spent here playing games especially Jarts.
What makes this Cottage unique
There are beautiful loons on our lake and a treat to hear them communicate with each other. You also will love watching the hummingbirds feed regularly at the front deck feeder and the flowers around the house. There is always a great breeze off the lake for wonderful air flow. We have air conditioning for those rare hot hot days and nights. We have a beautiful firepit area with plenty of seating and a picnic table, torches to light and a back yard to play on. Everyone loves laying on the hammock while looking our at the lake.

Quiet Lake Vacation
Grace and Mel are very gracious hosts.
The property is exactly as described. This is a perfect vacation if you are looking for a quiet lake to swim or kayak. Our family enjoyed several days of just sitting at the dock, kayaking, paddle boarding and swimming. We took a couple rides into Vermont to visit different sites. We enjoyed seeing several loons and turtles on the lake. We saw a bear crossing the road nearby and two bald eagles on our last kayak trip around the lake. We would definitely recommend staying!
We had a grand time by Crystal Lake!
Grace, We had a grand time by the lake, with ping pong, paddle boating and a campfire!! Thx so much for having us!!
Mahesh and family
You are welcome. So glad you enjoyed your stay!!!
Perfect "Unplugged" family getaway
The property is wonderful - it has a beautiful dock with 4 kayaks, a pedal-boat, paddle-board, and floats. We swam, fished, and kayaked a lot. The fire-pit has 8 Adirondacks. Even though there are houses nearby it has a very private feel. We really enjoyed the setting. Grace was very accommodating and easy to deal with. We would highly recommend the house!

Beautiful cabin by the Lake
Our family of 6 had a wonderful time enjoying the fall colors at this cozy cabin by Lake Crystal. We deeply enjoyed the campfires and exploring the beautiful lake.
What you see is what you get.
Check in time is listed as 3PM so we were set to arrive at 3 to start our 5 night stay. On our drive up, Grace asked if we could come late so I had to find a place to keep the younger kids (6 &10) busy until we could check in. We arrived a little after 4:30 and Grace informed us that the house wasn't ready yet. It was after 6 by the time everything was finished and we had the place to ourselves. Even beyond that time, cleaning was being done right outside our kitchen door as I was getting ready to prepare dinner. To make up for the late check-in, Grace offered us to stay 2 hours late the day we were leaving and took all the kids out of the boat tubing etc. We appreciated this and the kids loved it.
The house is very much as pictured in photos. We found it dated and could definitely use newer furniture. We grilled steak our first night to find no steak knives. The next day, Grace checked in to see how we were (she sometimes stays in the other half of the house with her brother) and was kind enough to bring us the few things that we needed. Overall, the kitchen is stocked well enough to prepare most anything you would at home (including a crockpot.)
Beds are reasonably comfortable - King bed in the front room has a nice few of the lake. The one bathroom was spacious and very clean and although we had 7 people there most days, it was not an issue.
The new firepit area was beautiful and we took advantage of it when the weather cooperated (can't fight with mother nature!) The hammock in the driveway is tucked away and very relaxing and also overlooks the lake.
The dock right on the lake was located right across the road that circles the lake. This was just a little tough as our youngest is 6, so we had to be conscious of the (albeit slow) traffic on the road. We all loved using the (multiple) canoes that are stored right at the water and got a lot of use out of the paddle board (my favorite.) Road is quiet enough to walk on in either direction.
The room above the detached garage was a bonus as it can sleep the extra 2 people that don't fit in the house (to make the total of 8 listed in the listing.) We enjoyed the ping pong table in this room. Note there is no bathroom up there so if anyone sleeping there needs access to the main house.
Overall, the home is as pictured in the photos. Grace was very nice and responsive to any requests or needs we had during our stay.
Walking and running along Crystal lake to take in the beautiful lake views is a must. Going left out of the driveway takes you down towards the dam which is just under 1 mile. Going right out of our driveway takes you to algonquin road where you see the cove aspect of our lake. You can walk down to the boat ramp or keep going to the end. This walk is approx 1.5 miles each way There is a large sandbar on the opposite side of the lake to enjoy where the water is warmer and sand is soft under your feet. The Kluge/Currier trail is a great walk which you access before Algonquin road on your right. Another nice trail is the Colette Trail off Boys camp road which is off Lockhaven rd going past the dam. Blueberry Picking is wonderful in Cannan near Cardigen mountain . Ask us for the number before you go. Mt Cardigen is nearby for a challenging hike and scenic views. The Queechee Gorge is another popular attraction while driving on route 4 into Queechee and then Woodstock Vermont. The Simon Pierce Glass factory and restaurant is very popular as well.
