About Nora Dvosin & Jeffrey Karoff

We were renters ourselves for a few years in a row -- our friends Jonathan and Carolyn ran the vacation rental and we'd said back then, if you ever want to sell... Sure enough, when they were ready we were their first call, and we bought the property immediately.

Nora Dvosin & Jeffrey Karoff purchased this house in 1999

Why Nora Dvosin & Jeffrey Karoff chose New Mexico

This might be the most ideal property in Dixon. We are at the end of the road, with only wilderness beyond us. So we have this vast, protected, BLM natural preserve as our side and backyards. You can see our neighbors down the road about 100 yards, but that's about it. Otherwise, it's untouched.

What makes this house unique

We love going there ourselves - we are in Dixon 3-4 times a year. Somehow, we never tire of the intoxicating landscape, the air, the quiet, the extraordinary New Mexican skies, and the light. The hammock under the ramada is one of the most magical spots. The ramada's pillars provide framed views of the landscape that remind us of Maxfield Parrish's idyllic worlds.

A gem of a place

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a month and wished it had been longer. Full of character and charm, this house is for people who love the beauty of the wild with all the comfort of civilisation! Loved the log fire, the chill out areas outside, the intense silence and the amazing stars at night. We cooked in the well-equipped kitchen, sampled the local artisan beers, hiked and skiied. Manager Candace was great too.

Tranquil Spot

  • 5 of 5

It was everything we expected, a quaint adobe home on the edge of the winderness in a tranquil, quiet spot with wonderful amenities. The outdoor porches are a perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening while viewing the natural desert landscape. While there we visited the Valle Grande above Los Alamos, and did the beautiful loop from Taos to Eagles Nest and Red River. The local grocery in Dixon was convenient as we cooked meals in the wonderful kitchen. We took a short hike on the surrounding hills to get a perspective of the beauty of the setting. We enjoyed our stay very much and will be back.

quaint, quiet, quality

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at this property once a year for the past six years, a week at a time. We are always wowed by the outdoors, as we love the desert and the opportunity to exercise. The property abuts an arroyo (dry river bed) right next to government land. This means the house is at the end of the road, leaving the adjoining landscape serene and beautiful. The house is in great shape with just the right amount of furnishings and artwork. The kitchen is new. The beds, couches and chairs are comfortable. There is a dining table that seats six. Overall, if you are looking for a quiet, restful, rural New Mexico experience, then this place is for you.

Perfect Family Destination

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived at the house we realized that we had found the perfect location. Whether it was catching sun on the back patio, watching the stars in the hammock, or mountain biking right out the front door..everything was relaxing. The owners have done an excellent job decorating the house and giving it a real sense of southwest charm. We had a blast visiting the areas around northern NM but looked forward every evening to coming home and enjoy a glass of wine under the stars. Our kids had a blast as well. The owners were super helpful along the way and answered any questions that we had. We have rented houses throughout Europe and the US and this definitely ranks near the top of our favorite destinations. The pictures don't do the house justice. It is rustic with modern comforts. If you enjoy nature, stars, fresh air, beauty and sunshine book your trip. our only regret is that we didnt stay two weeks.

Where do you live?

Absolutely loved everything about the adobe house

  • 5 of 5

We have been back home for well over a month and we keep saying to each other "I miss the adobe house". My husband, 12-yr old son and I spent a wonderful week at the 'edge of the wilderness'. We felt comfortable and relaxed from the minute we walked in the door. The house is very clean and inviting with nice furniture, comfy beds and really nice artwork. The newly remodeled kitchen is set up very nicely and had everything we needed for preparing meals to eat on the cute little patio. Besides the patio, there is an awesome porch outside the bedroom and a covered ramada. We all spent a lot of time sitting in all of those spots enjoying the view and the wildlife. We had 4 different species of hummingbirds coming to the feeder, 7 species of birds at the bird feeder, butterflies, lizards and were serenaded by coyotes at night. It really was a magical place and the three of us are very anxious to return.

Our stay at your home was perfect

  • 5 of 5

Hello Jeffrey and Nora,

Your Adobe at the Edge of the Wilderness was exactly what we needed to recharge. We have been returning to New Mexico about twice a year for the past 10 years and we usually stay closer to Taos. Your home provided a completely different experience that we enjoyed very much. Cozy, very clean, well furnished, and in a magical location... close to many places and activities of interest. I highly recommend your Adobe to anyone looking for the type of solitude that only New Mexico can provide.

Thank you so much for sharing it with us. - Jeff and Tina
