Old Essmore Cottage, extensively renovated 18th century stone cottage, beautifully furnished keeping that old charm and set in Ireland's fast becoming sought after destination.

Sleeping up to seven persons( max 6 adults ), our three bedroom country self catering accommodation, located along the shore road, is only five minutes from the beautiful village of Carlingford and only two minutes to the village of Omeath.

Old Essmore Cottage offers all you need in a self catering accommodation with cozy cottage rooms offering great views of the Mourne Mountains & Carlingford lough and with plenty of modern amenities to enhance your stay.

There is also a small garden and patio area ideal for relaxing in while you sip your tea or maybe a glass of wine or two.

The village of Carlingford is located on the shores of Carlingford Lough and is overlooked by the Cooley Mountains. It is a bustling centre for sightseers, walkers and adventure activity enthusiasts. It has a large number of award winning restaurants and pubs and has retained its medieval character. Carlingford, Omeath and the Cooley Peninsula won the 2008 European Destinations of Excellence – Tourism and Intangible Heritage award. ?

There are a number of great golf courses available nearby, great hiking trails on your door step, fishing, sailing, horse riding, dog racing tracks and a history to discover all around you.

A great location and ideal to go discover the East Coast from Dublin to Belfast - In little over an hour you can travel by car or train, from the heart of the country side into the heart of a city. Maybe a trip to the Zoo, visit The Guinness Factory or check out The Titanic Museum.

My parents,husband,7yr old daughter and myself stayed in this cottage for easter it is absolutely gorgeous and set in beautiful countryside we loved catching up with family and being out and about. owners Gerard and Maureen are such a friendly welcoming couple who couldn't do enough for us they have thought of all needs, couldn't ask for better perfect getaway just an hour from Belfast or Dublin and 5min from the beautiful village of carlingford,and 2min from omeath itself ..stunning views ,hopefully we will return sometime would highly recommend ;-)

Cosy cottage, great location

A perfectly situated cottage close to Omeath & across the road from the greenway to/from Carlingford. With stunning mountain view’s all around and the lough in front there is so much right on Old Essmore’s doorstep. Inside it’s cosy & fully equipped and was delightfully decorated for the holiday season with loads of candles & 🎄.The digital music collection was a great bonus.

The downstairs shower could do with a refurb., otherwise it was perfect.

Beautiful house. Perfect hosts. Would definitely recommend!!

The cottage is beautifully decorated, very practical and in a fabulous setting. There is a scenic walk from Omeath to Carlingford which passes directly in front of the cottage. We were greeted with a beautiful wine and cheese reception and a tour of the cottage. We 5 ladies had a wonderful weekend and would definitely recommend and would return.

stunning views

A must book if planning to stay in this area. Gerard will welcome you with the most amazing hospitality, the home and treats are just what the traveler needs after a long drive. Unfortunately we had a very wet week so didn't get a chance to enjoy the patio. This home is the best equipped home I have ever rented, nothing is left out. Close to Belfast just up the highway, enjoy!!

A well appointed, cozy, comfortable home in the perfect location.

I would recommend Old Essmore Cottage to anyone wishing to stay in an authentic old Irish cottage with all the modern conveniences of home.

Our host Gerard was there to meet us upon arrival and, much to our surprise, presented us with a lovely traditional Irish tea complete with scones, jam and cream. He also thoughtfully provided us a few essentials to start us off (milk, juice). A quick tour and he was on his way and we were left to enjoy this idyllic home and Gerard's incredible curated music selection of over 10,000 songs, all loaded on a computer that's hooked up to a built-in sound system!

The cottage is located directly across from beautiful Carlingford Lough and the greenway path system. It's a one mile walk into Omeath in one direction and about 6-7 miles into the historic town of Carlingford in the other direction.

At the start of the greenway path towards Carlingford, there is a small parking lot where we observed a bicycle rental company dropping off bikes for people. This would definitely be worth exploring.

The bedrooms were well appointed with comfortable beds and as stated in the posting could sleep up to 7-8 people.

We would recommend booking a table at Omeath's Granvue Hotel for live music and excellent fish and chips.

There's so much to see and do in the area and Old Essmore Cottage is the perfect home base. Our only regret was not being able to spend more time at this lovely place.
