This property and property manager are both 5 star, but our experience dropped to 4 due to a tiny detail.
Check in is not until 5pm and we were arriving on a Sunday. We didn't get there until after 6pm and discovered there was no toilet paper. By the time we could get back out the door, most of the local stores were closed so, for that night, we had to rely on travel tissues I had packed. We later discovered there were also no garbage can liners (but instructions said we were supposed to take the garbage out). Also missing were coffee filters, laundry soap, and hand dish soap, or any hand soap for that matter. These are small, easily obtained things, but there was no mention we were to provide these ourselves. I see there is also no mention they will be provided, but the other places we have stayed did not specify and provided them. So, that one little detail took our experience down.
That said, property is in a great location, Catherine was very quick to contact us back when we reached out and eventually we were hooked up by her property manager, for the things we requested.
You enter on Rue Barry to a small parlor with laundry (one machine does both wash & dry). Up three steps to the bathroom that has a shower. The only bathing spot in the property.
Up eight more steps to the main living space: Dining room and kitchen (yes, is short, but part of charm). Main bedroom with queen (double?) is on this floor. We could not get the door to the stoop open.
Up 10 or so more steps to loft living room with 2 chairs and tv.
Up 6 or so more steps to upper sleeping area. At top of stairs, large open space with 2 twins and a toilet (toilet is not in a separate room, it has a small privacy screen). Through a door is the other bedroom with queen (double?) which has a sink. There is ac and fans provided in this room, which was much needed during the mid-September heat.
If you have mobility issues, this is not the place for you.
Property is on "quiet" side of Sarlat (west) which made for good sleep. If you want to look out your window at the market or hear the nightlife, look on the east side of old town.
There is a garage, but we never used it. Paid to park just across the street. If parking after about 6pm, could get 12 to 16 hours for about 2 euro. Got in early once and paid 30 euro (but was one time and market day).
Easy to get to that street parking and then out to main roads.
Fridge is under-counter style. freezer didn't work well.
This apartment was in a fabulous location. Easy walk to anything that you needed. The apartment was a great size for our family of 5. The owner was very responsive and easy to work with. The negative thing I have to say is that we were there during a heat wave (100 degrees) and the apartment was almost uninhabitable. But for the cool days, it was great.
it was an anormaly period of hot - habitualy even in summer the house preserve fresh - Due to thick walls and smal street, down floor rooms are always pleasant and and never too hot - ventilate by night and closed by day. In uper rooms climatisation makes is job.
i sorry but i can not make something else
Lovely home in the medievil city
There is a lot of love about this property: the owner was gracious and responsive to logistical questions, the kitchen and dining area are extremely well-equipped. The bedrooms are lovely. We turned the front steps (shown in the property picture) into a mini-breakfast area and it was not only scenic but a great place for people and dog-watching. There is, perhaps best of all, the thrill of living in history. We would definitely stay here again.
That said, this property, as others have stated, a little quirky for the 21st century. We are both 5'7" and were comfortable in the kitchen, but anyone taller would have to stoop. The small TV/game loft also had a low ceiling. Perfect for kids, a little hard on the head for adults. The shower also had a low ceiling. And the second toilet, in the upstairs bedroom, is only shielded from the rest of the room by a portable half-screen.
Still, the bedrooms and dining room were light and airy and very comfortable. And the location can't be beat. Overall a great experience.
Stay right in the heart of Sarlat...but on the quiet side!
This home is an absolute gem. It is located in old town Sarlat but on the less busy side of the town. There is a bakery only a few steps away on the main street. On the other side of the main street is where you find all the restaurants, shops, and street entertainers. The house itself is wonderfully quirky. Yes...the ceilings are low in the kitchen area because it seems it was split to make the TV room. But, we didn't mind...just watch your head going up the stairs to the upper bedrooms. The host has taken the time to put labels around the house on how to use everything and shares the long history of this home (including original photos!). We did struggle with heat in the upper back bedroom but we simply didn't use the room. Strangely, though, on that same upper floor, the kids room area was perfectly fine at night. Overall, though, we enjoyed the opportunity to stay in a great location in a very well built home with fascinating history all around.
Great place to stay in Sarlat
We had a great stay here. The home is well equipped, comfortable and is in a great location. It is very close to the main street in the Old Town part of Sarlat. There is a great boulangerie just a block away as well as a few small markets, excellent fish store, and some shops. The kitchen is well stocked. It is a 15th century home so ceilings are low and there is a lot of stairs. Would recommend it highly
Historical Sarlat house
Absolutely charming, a few minutes walk down cobbled streets to centre of Sarlat. You can pay to park on the main road and then just pop through an archway to property. Not for the tall or the infirm, as the quirky layout has stone and wooden steps everywhere and in places very low ceilings Restaurants very near.
Super Market City Centre (5 mins walk) on Saturday and Wednesday morning
Animations all summer within walking distance
