Tucked away, a stones throw from the hustle and bustle of St. Ives, The Apartment is a calm beach retreat perched above Porthminster Beach. Enjoy the boutique style of a hotel with all the comfort and freedom of home. GOLD Award by Visit Britain Quality in Tourism.

Each room has been individually set by the designer behind the Queen Mary 2 interiors. The Apartment is furnished to a high standard with custom furniture and fixtures and fittings by Pierre Frey and Philippe Starck. Art Nouveau wardrobes, deco photographs of local scenes, and a whopping chandelier give a contemporary-classic twist to the beachside location. Previous guests say in the Visitors' Book:

The Apartment includes high-speed broadband and a 32’ HD surround-sound HD TV system. Netflix and Amazon Prime included from Summer 2018. Personal touches include board games, Molton Brown bath products, and a welcome tray of tea, coffee, milk, and biscuits waiting on arrival.

Front bedroom: Art Nouveau wardrobe and exquisitely comfortable bed (5ft width). French door leading directly onto the terrace with ocean and harbor views. Minimalist en-suite with rain shower, Philippe Starck fittings and low-level LED night-lighting.

Rear bedroom: Dressing area with Ralph-Lauren style black dresser, 'zip-n-link' beds for flexible accommodation as twin beds or a king-size. Separate bathroom with low-level LED night-lighting, Italian-designed sink and dark Italian stone tiling.

Lounge: Engulfing wing chairs, sofa, reading lamps, antique chandelier, dark wood floors and light linen rug. High-end surround sound system with 32' LCD TV and cable to connect your own music source. Bioethanol gel fireplace (gel not supplied).

Dining Area: Round glass table with 4 contemporary back fabric chairs, two of which offer harbour and ocean views.

Kitchen Area: Fully equipped with washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave (with browning grill), electric cooker and hob fridge and freezer. Black granite counter tops and stainless appliances. Plunger-style cafétiere plus filter coffee maker.

Veranda: Modern eating area for 4, halogen heater, two planters with sub-tropical planting (succulents, agave-family evergreens and lampranthus flowering in early summer). Sweeping views of St. Ives Harbour and Bay.

The Apartment has a dedicated parking space right in front. All bed linen and towels are provided. Just bring beach towels. Electricity, gas, water, parking, wireless internet included in the rental.

About Alan Hocking

The owner, Alan Hocking, is a Cornishman raised a few miles from St. Ives. He lives and works in London and makes frequent visits back to Cornwall where his family still live.

Why Alan Hocking chose Saint Ives

St. Ives was my favourite place to visit as kid. We only lived 11 miles away but it felt like a world away. Like being on holiday for a day. I moved to London in 1991 vowed to buy a place in St. Ives as soon as I could scrape together a deposit. In 1994 my mum and her hilarious golf buddy, (the late and dearly missed) Joan Harvey went on the hunt and fell in love with this apartment so I pounced on it without even seeing it myself. Many years later my good friend Alan McVitty (the above-mentioned cruise liner interior designer) and cousin, Glen Prisk, stripped the place back to its four walls and remodelled it back to its former Victorian glory with a contemporary twist and yesteryear throw backs including silver-plate local photography by my grandfather, Cecil Thomas taken in the 1930's. So there's a lot of heart, soul and personal history wrapped up in the apartment as it stands today. It's a place I love to come back to and hope you will too.

"The Apartment is located in just the right place for a great holiday by the beach. It is set back from the hustle and bustle but near enough to pop out with a young child to eat out in the evening. If you want to stay in, the kitchen has everything you need and more and the dining table located in the bay window gives you the best view in St Ives with its view of the harbour".

Brilliant place to stay would recommend to family and friends

We stayed in the apartment this summer for a week and loved every minute of it. The décor is amazing and the beds are so comfortable we slept like babies. The apartment is two minutes from a beautiful sandy beach and 5 minutes walk into St Ives. We took our teenage daughter and a friend and they had a great time too.

We ate at the restaurant on the beach which we would really recommend but suggest booking as busy at night We love to play tennis and the courts next to the apartment where perfect and look out to sea. A morning in the Spa then lunch was another high light.

We definitely want to stay in the apartment again as the whole experience was so relaxing and comfortable and the décor of the apartment makes you feel really special

Seamless, smooth stay in St Ives

We had a great stay at this lovely property in St Ives. The apartment was exactly as described and shown in the photographs, and was in great condition.

It's a very comfortable place and in a great location for Porthminster Beach and the stroll to the centre of St Ives.

The kitchenette area was surprisingly well stocked with equipment, and the tea, coffee, sugar, and Cornish biscuits was a nice touch.

Communication with the owner was fast and easy, which all helped to make it a smooth and enjoyable stay.

Elegant seaside living

Thank you for letting us stay in your glorious apartment. It really was every bit as beautiful as the photos on the website suggested - the sort of enviable taste that makes one never want to leave. St. Ives was perfect - the weather was kind, the town charming, the sea blue and the restaurants you recommended were just as good as you suggested. Portminster cafe became a regular haunt for its food and exceptional view. Hidden Kitchen got our vote for food. Sloop for beer and afternoon sun (good to find a pub that does both beer and a decent Provencal rose), and interesting clientele. Didn’t have time or room for much more, but hope we can make a return visit next year and, if life is kind, your apartment might be available when we come again. I have kept a bit of sand in one of my shoes to remind me that it wasn’t that long ago we were walking on the beach. Thank you once again for the brief few days of elegant seaside living. We loved it! The Kershaws

Luxury, well equipped perfect location

Amazing views, small but well equipped kitchen. Really comfortable beds, 2 great ensure shower rooms. Sky tv a bonus and great surround sound. Has everything you needed and the bonus of a car parking space right outside the property.

The renowned Porthminster Beach Cafe is a two minute walk from the front door and the Tate St. Ives is a 10 minute stroll along along the water's edge to Porthmeor Beach.
