About Sian

My love affair with Greece started in 1966. I have lived here full time since 2002. I chose a traditional Greek village so that I could integrate with life here.

Sian purchased this cottage in 2002

Why Sian chose Ditiki Mani

The view when I first walked out onto the front balcony took my breath away and the house although in need of so much work is a beautiful stone Greek Village farmhouse with enormous potential. I had to take up the challenge. It was worth it. As for the area I fell in love with its charms way back in 1986.

What makes this cottage unique

This is the REAL GREECE. The property is tucked away in a private corner of a very traditional working village. We have 39 Olive trees and harvest our own organic oil every year. The villagers are friendly and helpful. The views are to die for . In one direction a panoramic view from Koroni island at the tip of the Gulf of Messinias right up to Kalamata and for a backdrop we have the magnificent Tagyetos mountains. What more could you ask for.

A truly amazing getaway

  • 5 of 5

This property, tucked away in a little village in the Exo-Mani, is a magical place, a quiet haven set among olives and cypress trees with magnificent views of the Messenian Gulf and the soothing occasional clink of sheep / goat bells is likely to be the loudest sound you'll hear.

If you are looking to party, to be loud and obnoxious, to seek excitement or the crass appeal of more stereotypical tourist attractions - or if you're someone who requires a certain sameness of experience or a lot of hand-holding to feel comfortable - the sorts of things that defeat the real value of traveling - then perhaps this is not the place for you.

But if you are looking to find a Greece that has steadily become more difficult to find over the last 40 years or so - a wonderful, relaxing place not overrun with great migrating hordes of garish tourists - you could not hope to do better than at this wonderful place.

The owner - Jane, Sian, or Jammie as she may refer to herself - is a welcoming yet discrete and unobtrusive host who can give as much advice and guidance or as little as you might like, and she has created a very comfortable, cozy nest of a landing place that my companion and I - who stayed for a week in May - found truly homey in the best sense of the word. The beds are comfortable, the door is pleasant, the wi-fi works well, and Jammie has laid on every conceivable amenity to make your stay as lovely as possible, from little snacks awaiting your arrival to a well-stocked kitchen to an extensive library of hard-to-find guidebooks to the local area and beyond that will definitely prove their worth to anyone able to read English. We went to several places we could never have found relying on GPS and maps alone.

This is a real wonder of a gem. I can not emphasize strongly enough how perfect it is for the adventurous traveler looking for a comfortable, even luxurious home base for their forays into the Greece of dreams I had feared vanished.

Owner's Response: Thank you Jacques for your wonderful review. I was so happy for you that you managed to rediscover and relive the Greece of 40 years ago. I am grateful every day to have found a home in a small and totally unspoilt little haven. Life here still revolves around olive harvest and as you described keeping sheep and goats. However we have a vibrant and cultural city just 25k away which provides all the needs of modern life whilst also maintaining a true Greek identity. The area is the gateway to the magnificent Mani peninsular and is stunningly beautiful. It was a delight to meet you both and I hope you can return some day.

Absolutely beautiful location and lovely cozy cottage

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely place to relax and let go of the hassle and bustle of city life. The terrace with its stunning views is spectacular. Jammie, our host is super friendly and very helpful. We felt completely taken care of.

This is a great location to go on hikes or head to the beaches in the surrounding. The close by towns and village are lovely and the food is great.

We only can recommend this place.

Delightful property fab views day and night

  • 5 of 5

Recently returned from our 2nd visit to Kali Thea - Kato Doli, Jammie's wonderful house. We had a great time. The house has everything your need and more with the best host you could ever wish for. The views from the terrace are amazing and it is lovely to be in an authentic Greek village as opposed to a resort. A lovely beach and little harbour just a short drive down through olive groves. Lots of places to eat, serving gorgeous food either at the harbour, along the coast or in nearby villages. Plenty of books and maps and information of the area and further afield. Not too far to drive, through beautiful scenery, to see many different sites. Would definitely recommend this place and will be returning again soon. Thanks Jammie for making it so special.

Owner's Response: It's wonderful when guests return and have become friends. They become part of this small friendly community . I hope to see you both again in the near future. Always good to hear I am providing the right services and comfort and as for this area ....well, it couldn't be a better location for sea, mountains ancient sites and all the things you mention so I thank Greece and Mother Nature for that.

The property is as described beautiful views.

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully finished and maintained and well equipped. The owner was very helpful left enough provisions for the first day, arranged a local hire car and a pick up from the airport which made the journey there so easy. Also lots of recommendation about local Tavernas, but not intrusive. Lovely beaches within 20 min drive. Best for 2 people but could take 2 extra's in the living room.

Owner's Response: Thank you to my first guests of the year. D and D . They were the perfect guests who managed very well to find their own way around with the help of the maps and suggestions provided . They also found some remote villages and met some interesting characters on their mystery tours! As walkers they enjoyed some lovely walks just around the village area . The olive groves are a carpet of Spring flowers just now. I hope to see them back again some time.

Ein Traum für Genieser

  • 5 of 5

Alles sehr liebenswert. .....

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review. I enjoyed meeting you and am so happy that you liked my house and my village. This village is a very special place which is still a village in the true sense of the word. I have been delighted to meet so many people from Germany and Holland as well as the UK this year. With more flights now coming direct to Kalamata and the new motorway from Athens now open, Kalamata is enjoying many more tourists. However , the village of Kato Doloi and the surrounding villages of Avias are untouched by tourism which make them very special. Thank you Reinhold and Gerlinde. I hope very much to meet you again. Sian (Jammie)

The village of Kato Doloi is nestled in the foothills of the Tagyetos mountains on the fertile terraces of olives that take giant steps down to the gulf of Mesinnias.

The views are panoramic and take in mountains and sea and the most amazing sunsets.

This is the heart of the famous Kalamata olive oil region which produces wonderful organic food ..both meats and vegetable. Local Tavernas serve fresh home-made dishes and the coastal villages have ample supply of fresh fish. All accompanied by good organic local wine.

Kato Doloi is still a working Greek agricultural village. This is NOT a tourist destination. This is real Greece. The village is part of a small group of villages providing family run village shops which sometimes double as bars and in summer they often grill home reared pork souvlakis served up with fresh bread , home grown salads and proper chips. There are also several small tavernas which serve daily specials.

In July and August the villages host Panyeris… village festivals with spit roast whole pigs and lots of Greek music and dancing.

The city of Kalamata is just 30 min drive away and provides all that you could want in the way of shopping. The local Agora ( produce market - Saturday and Wednesday ) where you can buy fresh local vegetables, fish and meat and many other food products and garden plants is well worth a visit.

Just a short drive south down the Mani Peninsular brings you to the historic coastal town of Kardymili and the small low key tourist resort of Stoupa and the fishing harbour of Agios Nikolaos.

Areopolis and the Stunning Diros caves are also in easy reach and the medieval town of Mystras on the road to Sparta is another amazing local journey.

Ancient Messene ( which can rival Olympia ) and the region of the Pylion are both wonderful day destinations providing water falls , castles and amazing beaches.

This is a magical area of castles and Byzantine architecture, around every corner there is another stunning view.
