Sympathically renovated house in the mountain village of Liboreiro only 3 kms from the pretty riverside town of Gois and only 20 minutes drive to either Arganil or Lousa. From the large entrance hall with cloak cupboards on the ground floor are two double bedrooms both with ensuite facilities and walk in closets. The staircase leads up to the first floor where there is an office area with a fold down single bed with bedside cabinet, vanity shelf and mirror, next to a cloakroom and utility room with washbasin. W.C and washing machine. There is a large well appointed open living room with 2 leather sofas, TV ( both UK and Portuguese), DVD and CD players with a selection of DVD's and CD's. There is a dining table with seating for 6, coffee table, a woodburning stove and electric radiator. The kitchen is well appointed with cooker, microwave, coffee maker, fridge/freezer and other essential equipment. The small terrace to the rear and large terrace at the front both have patio furniture for outdoor dining, umbrellas and with wonderful views over the surrounding countryside .The pretty walled garden at the rear has an outside kitchen with built in BBQ, sink unit and bread oven with table and chairs for al fresco dining and loungers for sunbathing. The utility room with WC and washbasin is on the first floor. There is a selection of books, games and wi fi connection. The kitchen has all the requirements for self catering, gas/electric cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle, cafetiere and fridge/freezer. There is a travel cot and childs feeding chair available should they be required.

This property is well appointed as it was the owners holiday home where friends and family enthused over the clean pure air, magnificent scenery and the lack of noise and light pollution.

You can watch the sun rise while breakfasting on the terrace at the rear of the property and watch the sun set from the front terrace. Both terraces have wonderful views over the landscape.

The garden is secure so that children cannot wander and has a colourful array of plants and trees.

This is a no smoking and no pets accommodation.

Liboreiro is an old mining village and is made up of stone and schist houses, some unoccupied and some still lived in by the old Liboreirons and some occupied by young couples moving back to renovate and appreciate the area.

You can walk (5 minutes) to one end of the village and take the newly built marble steps to the Font where you can fill your water bottles with the crystal clear spring water or walk 5 minutes in the other direction to the church where you can picnic under the huge old oak trees.

The Romans came to this area centuries ago for its rich mineral deposits to extract gold, silver and lead and the caves can still be found in the surrounding hillsides.

Liboreiro offers the peace and quiet of the mountain but only 4 kms down to Gois and you have a supermarket, shops, restaurants, cafes and bars, the best of both worlds. It is only a five minute drive for freshly baked rolls for breakfast.

Just wander around the medieval market town of Gois, with narrow cobbled streets and a lovely market square, stroll along the riverside walk and see the fish swimming in the clear waters, take the children to play on the sandy beach and paddle in the shallow waters or swim in the deeper pools. Around the town you can see several important heritage sites including the Museum. Both the natural landscape and the unique cultural features have much to offer the visitor by way of interest and recreation.

Coimbra less than an hours drive away offers all the facilities, activities and culture of this ancient city which was once the capital of Portugal. Close by is the impressive Roman encampment of Conimbriga, with extensive artefacts and buildings, which is still being excavated, with a visitors centre and very good restaurant.

If you wish to wander further afield there is Figuera de Foz only just over an hours drive away and is the finest seaside resort in Central Portugal with 50 kms of beaches. The golf course at Montebelo is again just over an hours drive and you can find details on their website www.golfemontebelo.pt . In the winter there is skiing in the Serra do Estrela mountains at Torre ski resort with a range of blue and red runs and one black run. There is fishing in the local rivers and a permit is cheap and easy to obtain. There is also gokarting, a swimming pool and ten pin bowling at Vila Nova de Poiares less than 30 minutes drive away where you will also find more restaurants and cafe bars.

You can fly into either Porto or Lisbon airports with several airlines and most major car hire companies are there and good motorway roads bring you almost all the way.

About Margaret & Tony Wixon

We fell in love with the area and visited this part regularly for holidays and decided to buy our own holiday home. Liboreiro was just the perfect village to unwind and relax and reminded us of Scotland where we lived, but with sunshine. We then had it renovated and modernised and when we retired in 2011 we decided to relocate and Casa do Estrelas became home. We had the opportunity to buy another house in the village and after 1 year in Casa do Estrelas we moved in to Casa do Sonhos. We are keen gardeners and have managed to landscape that part of the wild moutainside which came with the house and make a lovely garden which people come to admire and which we are happy to show visitors.

Why Margaret & Tony Wixon chose Coimbra Region

We chose this property because it has such wonderful views all around of the beauitful countryside. We called it Casa do Estrelas because the stars are so wonderful at night and the skies are so clear. Although the house is situated in a village up the mountain it is only a 5 minute drive down to Gois which has all the amenities we need and eveything we could wish for everyday living. We enjoy river swimming and there are many river beaches close by with picnic areas and beautiful clean water.

What makes this house unique

The house has 2 terraces and the one at the rear of the house is where you can breakfast and watch the sun rise. The terrace at the front is where you sit on an evening with a glass of wine and watch the sunset. The garden is very private and has an outside kitchen with BBQ where you can prepare meals and eat alfresco. There are 3 sets of tables and chairs for outside dining and 4 reclining chairs for sunbathing. There are walks in every direction from the house and river beaches with bars and safe swimming areas in Gois and many more in the surrounding district.

Notes:
There is a woodburning stove in the living room for the winter months and wood is provided. and there are also wall mounted electric radiators in case of cooler evenings plus a heated towel rail in the bathroom. There is broadband & satellite TV .. The BBQ is built into the outside kitchen in the shade for cooking and charcoal, made in the surrounding forest, is provided. There are two gas cylinders located outside in their separate gas house for the water heating and cooking. The owners live in a nearby property in the village so are on hand if there are any queries. The house is adjacent to the village square where there is ample parking. Beach towels are not provided and therefore towels for outdoor use must be brought. This is a no smoking house and care must be taken when disposing of cigarettes outside because of the fire risk There is ample space to entertain friends and follow the sun round the house or sit in the shade when it gets too hot.

Great holiday home near Gois

This is a lovely house with plenty of space and well equipped. There are two en suite bedrooms downstairs and a spacious living room and kitchen upstairs. The two balconies had beautiful views and there is a garden to the back where you can barbecue. This is a small hamlet so there are no shops etc but Gois is a 5 min drive away (a car is essential) and has a super market, restaurants and tourist office so you can find out what is available in the local area. We loved the river beaches and the charm of the area and easily filled our 5 days here. We stayed in three different locations on our trip to Portugal and this was our favourite - both due to the accommodation and the region. The hosts, Margaret and Tony, were also very helpful and welcoming.

A hidden Gem.

As we drove from the motor way along winding roads travelling up , up and up I did wonder where on earth we were heading. However when we came round the bend and saw Gois before us I knew we had found a special place. Gois provides an air of calmness and serenity bathed in a tranquil green light.

From Gois we traveled on and further up and found Casa do Estrelas waiting for us. A first rate property far from the bustle of modern life where you can watch the birds and butterflies and relax.

There is also plenty of scope for day trips , the Roman ruins at Conimbriga, Aveiro and Piodao being our favourites.

I would not hesitate to recommend this property.

As we headed further south for some sea-side swimming and got stuck for hours in the Lisbon traffic we did feel envious of the couple who were moving into Casa do Estrelas that day.

Thank you for the opportunity to completely unwind.

Fantastic house and area

We loved our stay here. The owners used to live in this house before they moved next door...and it shows! All the small details are there (such as books to read, DVDs, all kitchen appliances, cupboard space etc.) Don't hesitate to book this house. And the area is wonderful for walking and variouse activities. We did a canoe trip, as well as numerous walks and visits to nearby towns. Loved it. Thanks Margaret and Tony for a lovely stay. Family of four

Two adults, two children. Margaret and Tony made us very welcome and the house is a dream holiday home. Very spacious and comfortable, fully up to date. Gois 'village' (still working on my Portuguese!) has friendly cafes, riverside bars with a children's playground just a glance away, an Italian restaurant and shops to get lost in souvenir hunting. Thoroughly recommended.

Fantastic

Had a lovely stay at Casa dos Estrelas. Very comfortable accommodation with beautiful weather and the two terraces with fantastic views were just great, Margaret & Tony were absolutely lovely, so hospitable and a delightful couple. This is a beautiful area of Portugal, uncommercialised but with a wealth of natural beauty. When birdsong is the only sound you hear (apart from the odd car) you know in Liboreiro that you've arrived in a wee bit of paradise!

notre séjour à Liboreiro

La Casa do Estrelas? un merveilleux petit coin de paradis! cette location de vacances est très bien équipée, avec un superbe panorama sur la montagne boisée et tous les villages environnants ( admirer les lumières de tous ces villages la nuit est vraiment féérique ) Chaque matin, la brume monte de la vallée en entrainant un parfum d'eucalyptus...divin! Cette maison avec ses trois terrasses, nous a permis de profiter du soleil mais aussi de l'ombre! Margaret et Tony nos propriétaires sont charmants, faisant beaucoup d'efforts pour comprendre la langue française et nous avons beaucoup ri ensemble! c'était notre troisième séjour au Portugal et cette fois ci, nous avons découvert une région montagneuse très authentique avec une nature préservée, à la Casa do Estrelas, il y a beaucoup de petits chemins de randonnées très agréables .Gois est un petit village charmant avec une rivière où on peut se baigner. Tout autour de Gois, il y a beaucoup de villes et endroits touristiques à visiter. En conclusion, nous avons été ravis de notre séjour et nous gardons un excellent souvenir de Margaret et Tony qui savent si bien recevoir leurs locataires.

Mountain village home in Liboreiro with panoramic views above the pretty riverside town of Gois in Central Portugal situated between the larger towns of Arganil and Lousa both approximately 20 minutes drive away. This unspoilt area offers stunning scenery, river beaches, pretty villages, the silver coast to the west and the Serra do Estrelas to the east. Coimbra, the ancient capital is 50 minutes drive and has all the history and amenities of a city. Mountains, lush valleys, rivers and forests are abundant with a new vista around every corner you can smell the pine, eucalyptus and mimosa trees and admire the flowers, butterflies and birds.

There are numerous river beaches with safe swimming areas, BBQ and picnic spots some with rowing boats and canoes for hire. This is an ideal base for relaxing or enjoying the local activities of walking, cycling, canoing, fishing,

horse riding and there is a very good golf course about an hours drive away.

Gois has a supermarket, a minimarket, post office, banks, hairdressers, butcher, bakers/coffee shops, internet cafe, and chemist . There are several bars and restaurants with varied menus serving local food who will happily accommodate the visitor and make you most welcome and also offer pizzas and take-aways. There is a market here on a Tuesday with a larger one at Arganil on a Thursday and a farmers market at Tabua the third Sunday in the month all selling local produce.

Within easy motoring there is the ancient university City of Coimbra, the extensive Roman encampment at Conimbriga, the world heritage site of Piodoa, the palace at Bucaco which is a fine hotel and restaurant set in parkland through which you may roam at leisure just as the monks in 17th century. A little further afield but still withn easy motoring distance for a day out is Figuera de Foz which is Central Portugals finest seaside resort with miles of beaches or Aveiro where you can cruise on a traditional boat along the ancient canals

Liboreiro was once a mining village extracting gold, silver and minerals and remnants of the caves are still here there are inumerable walks in every direction from the house and a short climb to the top of the mountain when on a clear day you can see for miles.

The sky is so clear here that stargazing is a must, it is wonderful to sit out on a summers evening with a glass of local wine taking in the miriad of stars. During the day sit in the garden and hear the woodpeckers, the cuckoos and spot the eagles when you hear their call, just the place to recharge your batteries.

Nearby at Colmeal and Cabreira both about 15 minutes drive away their are river beaches where you can cool off in the safe river pools or picnic at the tables provided under the shade of the trees and dangle a bottle of the refreshing local vinho verde, green wine, in the water. You would probably have all this area to yourself apart from the fish nibbbling your toes.

About 20 minutes drive away in the summer months is a recreation centre with 5 cascading pools of different depths to suit all ages, with seating areas, changing rooms, showers and wc's and a large bar/ restaurant.

This is just the place to relax and unwind and take a step back in time.
