Les Rays is within walking distance of the medieval hilltop village of Callas with its shops, twice weekly street market, bars and restaurants. This south facing Provencal style villa, set within 1.2 acres of olive and fruit trees, sleeps 8 and is ideal for families wishing to enjoy the beaches of the Cote D’Azur or the host of activities available in the Gorges de Verdon area. It would equally suit a couple or group of friends, seeking the peace and quiet of rural Provence and excellent food and wine. During warm weather, enjoy the large, secure, private pool and the breath-taking views from its terrace. Please note the pool is situated behind and above the house accessed by some steps, the position enhances the views and offer excellent privacy. The lounge / dining room is light and airy in the summer and opens out onto the terrace and garden. In the cooler months the house is cosy and warm with a wood burning fire. There are 4 bedrooms, 3 on the ground floor, each one with double doors opening out on the south facing terrace. 1 bedroom is a double, one a twin and one has a bunk bed. There is a downstairs bathroom with bath and shower, toilet and washbasin and also a separate toilet. The 1st floor master bedroom has a king size bed and an en ensuite bathroom and shower. It also has a roof terrace where you can enjoy fresh croissants for breakfast whilst taking in the stunning views of the countryside and the village or an aperitif in the evening, watch the sunset and admire the floodlit village church.
Susan, Mike and Matthew and our 3 golden retrievers live in Buckingahamshire near Marlow. Mike works in the drinks industry, Susan runs an event management company and Matthew (14) goes to school in Marlow,
Having spent several family holidays driving through France to Provence and the Cote d'Azur, Susan studied French at University, worked in St Tropez as a student and lived in Paris for 2 years. Now, having stayed in the area on holidays, we love our house in Callas all share Susan's passion for the Provence-Cote d'Azur region.
Mike Hill/Susan Hill purchased this villa in 2011
We bought the house in Callas, as we love the unspoilt area of rural Provence and the fact that you can walk to the village of Callas with its shops, restaurants and twice weekly market. We can enjoy the other hilltop villages such as Bargemon and Fayence but we are also close to the beaches and it is an easy drive to Nice airport. We looked at several properties but Les Rays stood out from the rest because of the breathtaking view from the pool terrace and the upstairs roof terrace and that the house is so light and airy and completely private. Matthew loved the size of the pool and the boules area. The picture shows Susan and Matthew enjoying the best icecream in St Tropez (Barbarac) in November 2012!
A typical day at Les Rays. Coffee on the roof terrace of the 1st floor bedroom listening to the church bells. Walk down to the village to buy fresh croissants and baguettes for breakfast on the terrace. If it is market day (Tues or Sat), have coffee at the Hotel de France with warm pastries from the boulangerie. The stalls sell local produce and there are some great gift ideas. The rest of the day you have a choice of the pool with its all day sunshine, visiting the area by car (a must - The Gorges de Verdon), a trip to the Cote d'Azur, picnics, walking, lunch in one of the hilltop villages with a glass of chilled rose de Provence. Visit the Office de Tourisme in Callas - there are activities to suit all tastes and ages. In the winter, you can ski in Grenoliers which is around 35 minutes drive. Dinner in Callas, Claviers or Bargemon - a huge choice of restaurants or a BBQ at the house but stock up with the local wine from one of the numerous vineyards beforehand! Digestive on the roof terrace to take in the view one more time before bed.
Very clean and pretty villa. Fabulous pool only draw back is the long climb up fine for us younger ones but a struggle for my mother at 77. The owners of the villa were very helpful and friendly and prompt at returning damage deposit. Great restaurant in village called Hotel de France and the village doctor was very helpful when my son came down with chicken pox. I would recommend this villa to other people.
Les Rays truly is a beautiful villa in a stunning location.
Inside there are large spacious rooms, which are all furnished to a high standard. The property was lovely and clean and well maintained. My husband and I stayed with my daughter and boyfriend, we had the lovely bedroom on the first floor which had a verandah with the most stunning view. I found it difficult to drag myself away from here each morning whilst enjoying my breakfast overlooking the village and church.
My daughter had the double on the ground floor which was just as lovely with double doors opening out onto patio area.
The villa was large enough for us all to have our own space and privacy.
Outside the pool area was stunning, more glorious views. Plenty of sun beds for everyone, a very well equipped area and great pool!
I also found it difficult to drag myself away from here, but glad I did,as the area is so beautiful.
A must is the Gorge du Verdon, the many hill top villages, and a visit to the fabulous beaches.
After a days sightseeing it was great to come back for a swim before going out to dinner. We did'nt travel far in the evenings as we really enjoyed the hotel in the village. The food was excellent, well presented and good service. Italian was also good.
We also enjoyed shopping locally for produce, cooking for ourselves and then relaxing in the garden at Les Rays, followed by a game of boules, what could be better especially after a few glasses of wine!.
I would recommend a stay at Les Rays, and am looking forward to our return.
We stayed for one week and we cannot wait to go again. When we arrived we were surprised how spacious and homely the villa was and it has amazing views. It is wonderfully located about 5- 10 minutes walk from the centre of Callas which is a typical Provencal village. We really enjoyed walking there every morning to buys our bread and croissants for breakfast. There are also some very good restaurants in Callas.
The pool is lovely and we even swam every day in May. We ate in the garden and it is wonderfully quiet and tranquil.
The region is full of breathtaking views and there is loads to see and do. We went to the Gorge du Verdon (Europe's Grand Canyon) and the beach at Saint Raphael and Juan les Pins..
We had a really brill holiday and hope to return

Utterly charming property with wonderful views across the landscape. The property has a tasteful appearance, and matched by comfortable furnishings, and very well appointed.
The swimming pool terrace is a superb elevated location from which to appreciate the beautiful scenery of the surrounding villages.
The rooms are all a good size as are the unspoilt and private gardens, which are well stocked and quite attractive.
We had a superb vacation with friends at Les Rays, and we would certainly return again in the future.
The local villages are blessed with an array of shops selling good quality local produce, as well as a selection of restaurants, bars, cafes etc and we would recommend some of the local vineyards for excellent Rose du Provence wines.
The villa is stunning. The views are incredible. I stayed in the double room on the ground floor, next to the bathroom. A lovely large room, with French doors onto the terrace, a great place to watch the sunsets. Towels are good quality from John Lewis ! The upstairs bedroom has a lovely bathroom and stunning views from teh private balcony. Just beautiful. Taking breakfast under the olive tree was a delight. The pool is a very good size and very deep. It was very well maintained with a cover. The surrounding pool area is very spacious, with substantial sunbeds and a great barbecue spot. The gardens are beautiful, there's a petanque area, endless olive trees and lovely flower beds in front of the villa. The kitchen is well equipped, although we ate most of the time, and a laundry room.
What to do:
The drive to Gorge du Verdun is lovely. Well worth he drive over, make sure you stop and take photos. The town of Callas, which is a few minutes walk down the main road (take a torch at night ) has a great market on Saturdays, excellent local fresh produce. The bakery does very good breakfast goods ( croissant etc). The restaurants were very good. The Italian is very sweet inside. Bargemon up the road is a delightful town, with a very good choice of restaurants, Beckham has a villa there apparently. The coast offers a selection of well known resorts, we liked St Maxim, along from St Tropez. Try 'Barbarac' in St Tropez for the best icecream. .
A lovely villa in a beautiful part of France. Very relaxing. A great find.
I had a fantastic time at this place, super holiday. The views were incredible, the village of callas was lovely, plenty of places to visit such as Gorges du Verdon and St. Tropez which are both nearby. I would love to go again and would recommend it to anyone.
Les Rays stands in over 1 acre of land, featuring numerous olive trees, within walking distance of the charming, unspoilt village of Callas and 4km from Bargemon. South facing with breathtaking views of the village and the surrounding hills. The stunning upstairs master bedroom has its own terrace, where you can enjoy breakfast whilst taking in the vista.
Just over 1 hour drive from Nice Airport and approximately 45 minutes from the beautiful beach resorts of St. Tropez and Cannes, close the spectacular Gorges du Verdon and ski resorts of the Alpes Maritimes. The surrounding countryside is awash with many of the finest wineries Provence has to offer.
