The villa and property has 180 degrees sea view. The 100 year old stone house was rebuilt and modernized in 2007, while retaining its simplicity and modesty. NB The Google map satellite picture was taken before the rebuilding. Upstairs the house has a joint living room/dining room/kitchen, a bathroom and a large bedroom, and downstairs two small bedrooms. All rooms have sea view and lead out to terraces. There is a stereo, dvd player, several films and a monitor. Linen and towels provided. The pool is 3 by 6 meters, not heated. There are several terraces for dining and sunbathing: a roofed one outside the kitchen, one old and one new outside upper bedroom, one under grapevine outside lower bedrooms, and one around the pool. The surroundings consist of farming terraces and flower gardens. The road is reached by private stairs (60 steps). Parking on road about 100 metres away from top of stairs. The inside of the house is rustic and functional, while the outside is spacious and private with many semi-tropical plants.

Beautiful views in a quiet and secluded location
We had a wonderful 2 week family holiday here in mid-August. The best thing about this place is the location. It is beautifully secluded with a view of hundreds and hundreds of miles of sea, The sunsets are spectacular. There is not even a hint of tourism in the locality, yet a twenty minute drive to Calheta gets you to a beach, water sports, restaurants, supermarkets etc .
The walks from the property are steep and beautiful. Within ten or fifteen minutes you can have climbed high up through the small villages to the local bakery and coffees shop, or dropped over a kilometre down towards the stunning coastline with more breathtaking views.
Outside the property the secluded pool was a welcome break from the mid day sun, and remained warm enough to swim in even late at night. The various terraces make taking meals at home even more tempting than eating out.
If your priority is a quiet holiday, in a secluded location, with a pool and breathtaking scenery then you’ll enjoy this place.
In need of redecoration
There is no doubt that the views are beautiful and the swimming pool is an added bonus, very clean and well looked after. The setting is perfect, very quiet and peaceful. Unfortunately, the interior decoration and furnishings are in desperate need of updating and replacing. The outside furniture was, overall, uncomfortable. The inside furniture and furnishings were, sadly, old and worn. The shutters on to the old terrace could not be opened as they were rusted shut and didn't want to force them in case they broke. This was obviously a charming and rustic property about 5 years ago but has now become tired and unloved.
Family circumstances has prevented us from visiting our house since July of last year. Coupled with many guests lately this certainly accounts for the neglected furniture. We will be going there in two weeks time and will then replace and renew all the furnishings. That said, I am surprised by your very low rating, which I would not expect by someone who writes '...views are beautiful...setting is perfect, very quiet and peaceful..'. Too bad you did not enjoy it.
Nice vacation villa
The villa is a quiet location to chill out. After awaking we could directly go out into the pool, rolls were brought every morning by the bakery car and breakfast outside on the covered terrace were even possible in windy weather. We used the villa as a hiking base and there was everything we needed. The caretakers were very nice and there are cute, very interested cats in the neighbourhood. We had a nice stay!
Excelent positioned for a quiet holiday
We were very much surprised by the quiet location and the spectacular view. A most pleasant surprise. We would love to come back. The villa has all the things you will need for a nice holiday. If you are looking for discos or many people you are at the wrong place!!
Great place to relax
We enjoyed our stay very much. It's a very quite and comfortable place with a great view over the ocean and beautiful sunsets, set in the middle of a small village away from the main route. The pictures match exactly the setting, even the water in the pool looked absolutely clean and fresh, - but we didn't use it because of the overall temperatures.
The small shop in the village provides all emergency stuff, but to survive you need a car to go shopping in a supermarket, - p.e. in Prazeeres only a 10 minutes drive away and open every day 7:00 - 23:00.
The support of the owner could not have been better and we can recommend this place to anybody who is searching for a place on their own in a small village, far away from big hotels and noisy streets.
Located on the sunny side of the island, Faja da Ovelha is a small village 15 minutes West of Calheta and its beach. Several famous levada hikes easily accessible from the villa. Very peaceful surroundings with 180 degree sea view and surrounded by farming terraces. Private stairs (60 steps) from villa to road and parking. 2 restaurants within 20 minutes lovely walk (2mins drive) and a small bar and shop next to church in the village. 10 minutes drive to the nearest fishing village. Easy access to the mountains and the North of the Island.
