It is a very beautiful new villa with a large decked garden and a family sized swimming pool. It has three bedrooms. With a nice distribution and a spacious lounge. It is in a quiet area with beautiful views, a short distance from the main square of the small village.
The house is on two floors with a garden which has access from the living room by a glass door, or the kitchen.
The garden boasts orange, lemon, pomegranate and olive trees - it has a cover area with a table for 8. A shady corner off the lounge, is the perfect spot to relax back in one of the hammocks or take a well deserved sundowner with friends.
On the ground floor is the living room, kitchen, spacious and well equipped, a toilet, and a small utility room.
An open staircase takes you up to the first floor from the living room. On this floor are the bedrooms, one with king-size bed and bathroom en-suite, another double, with queen size bed and the third room with bunk beds and the possibility of adding a further single. On this floor is a further bathroom.
The house is child friendly with stair gates and a cot on request.
Rodalquilar is a charming little village and its beach, El Playazo is one of the most beautiful in the park with perhaps the best snorkelling and diving of all Southern Spain.
Rodalquilar: One of the quieter areas in the park. It's a small village with a year round population of less than 100. In the summer months this number swells considerably but the tourism is very restrained and select.
There are five restaurants in the village, all worth a visit. Several have very good menus, wine lists.
Several bars add to the available options in walking distance.
The Goldmine perches on the mountain above village. Most of the buildings have been restored and are now home to the Park Centre with its visitor centre, botanical and volcanism centres. There is also an open air theatre.
Below the Goldmine and just in front of the house there are Botanical Gardens covering over 9Ha (22 acres).
The gardens are open daily and reproduce the diversity habitats that can be found in the park. The combination of plant life and water is big attraction for the local bird and animal life.
Activities: In the summer months the park organises children's workshops and open air cinema. There is live music or theatre nearly every night in Rodalquilar or one of the nearby villages. We publish a calendar of events and are happy to make bookings for you.
There are several driveable tracks that take you up behind the gold mine from the village to some interesting locations, such as the El Cortijo de Los Frailes (5km) - the setting for real events of Garcia Lorca's play 'Blood Wedding'. A few kms further is the tiny village of Los Albaricoques - scene of the famous duel For a Few Dollars More (re-enacted each year).
Several marked trails originate in the village and climbing the mountains that surround the village can give stunning views from the snow capped Sierra Nevada to the Moroccan Atlas mountains. This is a cycling and hiking paradise although not perhaps at the height of summer.
Beaches: There are over 20 beaches and coves within the park in easy driving distance and the majority are unspoilt with no hotels or construction of any type. Los Muertos, Genoves, Monsul and of course Rodalquilar's beach, El Playazo are unmissable.
One of the few Mediterranean marine reserves, the snorkelling and diving is quite stunning. There are several dive outfits in the park including one just 100m from the house. We can arrange single try out dives or longer courses.
There are kayaks and bicycles for hire and kayak tours are available in the summer months.
Granada and its Alhambra are an easy day trip by car or train. We can arrange a full day visit or an overnight if required.
Simon and I, Dolo, came to live in Rodalquilar in 2011 with our two children, Laura and Pau.
We have always been in contact with the area, as I have family from Níjar. We both used to come here for our relaxing holidays and it’s always been a paradise for us.
Rodalquilar is a great village and we feel very happy here, as there are lovely people living. It’s small but with enough bars and restaurants and the odd shop or two. It has a relaxed laid back family atmosphere - a long way from the ‘Costas’.
We manage houses in different villages of the Natural Park and we think each village has it’s own advantages, depending on what you want for your holidays. If you are not sure where to go, just ask us and we can help you with it.
Cabo de Gata is a really stunning area with many different possibilities. It is a great place to enjoy nature and do lots of different activities around it: from trekking to trips on boats, as well as surfing, kayaking, doing geological walks, exploring the mines, watching birds . Lots of different activities that can be enjoyed all year round due to the wonderful weather.
We always try to keep our houses to a high standard, clean, well provided and we are always willing to help our guests with whatever is related to their enjoyment of their holidays.
We were looking for a seven day holiday in a Spanish village where our daughter and her husband could experience the Spanish way of life. When we discovered this Villa and its location it fully suited our requirements in every way, especially as our seven month old grandchild came as well. We were not disappointed at all and the villa was even better than we expected . Everything was first class and Dolo was very helpful in all aspects. Thank you for a very enjoyable time in Rodalquilar and we shall certainly return one day.
Hidden beaches, pristine sands and crystal clear waters, set Cabo de Gata apart. A natural park and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve it is one of the few remaining unspoilt stretches of Spanish Mediterranean coastline. The village of Rodalquilar lies in the heart of the park in a picturesque valley formed by an ancient volcanic caldera. Its beach, El Playazo, is justly regarded as one of the most beautiful in the park and offers golden sands and some excellent snorkelling. An important mining centre since Roman times, the abandoned goldmine of Rodalquilar rises above the village. Today the mine buildings have been converted into the centre for the Park Authority and houses the park's main visitor centre and one of Andalucia's ten Botanic Gardens. The park boasts over two dozen stunning beaches, many of which are only accessible on foot. If you are looking for unspoilt rural charm near the sea, then this is the place for you.
