About the property

A 2 bedroom first floor apartment in a traditional 'pueblo' style family complex

Casa Helen is ideally situated in a quiet pedestrian walkway in this pretty garden holiday park which has a large swimming pool, a kiddies paddling pool, 2 flood lit tennis courts (to hire for a small fee), a poolside bar / snackbar & a nice restaurant offering 'al fresco' fine-dining on the pool terrace. Air conditioning is available for a small extra charge. There is a dive centre adjacent and a supermarket nearby. The lovely 'Arenal' beach is close by and a bus service which runs every 30 mins will take you there in 5 minutes & can bring you back late at night. The apartment offers a nice living / dining room, with a sofabed, satelitte HD TV, DVD / CD players and a lovely cool and breezy naja terrace which looks out onto a fountain in the green peaceful walkway. There are 2 traditional Spanish bedrooms, both with built in wardrobes. These can be set up either as double or twin rooms. There is also a folding 'Z-bed'. The bathroom offers the option of a shower or bath and has a washing machine. There's a fridge/freezer, oven, halogen hob & dishwasher in the modern 'all mod-cons' kitchen. The addition of air conditioning for a small extra charge will add to the comfort and enjoyment to your stay.

AIRPORT TRANSFERS: If you don't want to drive or hire a car you can book seats on a mini-bus to and from the airport. The drop off / pick-up is at the small supermarket at the Tosalet Urbanisation, which is less than a 10 minute walk from the apartment. The total cost is €40 return. Google: 'Beni Connect Transfers'. They have a desk in the arrivals hall at the airport when you arrive. I'll give you directions to the apartment from the drop-off point or if you have heavy bags I'll be happy to pop along and meet you at the drop off point. For your return journey they will collate your time requirements with other passengers and arrange pick-up times along the coast, so you need to check (by phone) the day before your return journey to confirm the exact pick-up time. The vehicles are modern and clean and the service is good.

About James Morris

We are Paul & Helen Nicholls. We have been together for over 45 years and lived in the North West of England. Paul worked in a managerial role with a well-known car manufacturer and Helen was a head teacher. We holidayed in Javea and decided to buy pueblo style villa which we called Casa Helen at which we and our family holidayed for many years. We planned to spend a lot of time in Casa Helen once we retired, alternating between Javea and the family home in England, but we loved the Costa Blanca so much that when we retired we sold up in England and bought a villa nearby instead! We had expected our family to continue to use Casa Helen, but now they descend on our villa and stay with us. We couldn’t bear to sell Casa Helen as it has so many memories and decided to let others enjoy it by renting it for holidaymakers and it is currently managed by a family friend who’s photo you’ll see here. Many of our friends come back year after year.

Why James Morris chose Javea, Moraira and Denia Area

We loved the development, it being traditionally Spanish in its style. The mix of small villas and apartments in the garden setting with such a lovely pool, tennis courts, reception and restaurant facilities made the decision to buy easy. Why this particular apartment? Being on a pedestrian only walkway it was always going to be calm, quiet and safe for the children and the fountain just outside the apartment created a lovely view from the naya and we hoped that the sound or the water splashing from the fountain would be very relaxing – we were right!

Local to all amenities’, bus route right on doorstep, rocky cove moments away. Friendly atmosphere, gardens, supermarket, Dive centre, etc – all very convenient and beautifully maintained.

  • The master bedroom has a double bed. The second bedroom is normally prepared as a twin bedded room, but can be prepared as a double if preferred. Notes:
Weekly visits of more than 10 days will receive a mid-stay bedding and towels change. Long lets will be provided with 2 sets of bedding and towels so guests can undertake their own laundry. Beach towels can be added for a small extra charge to cover the laundry costs. The complex is fully gated. Large dogs are not permitted in the complex but small friendly ones are welcome as long as they are kept on a lead. We are happy to accept cats on a long winter let. 10% discount on Brittany Ferries - If you are booking a ferry on line just say 'YES' to the question 'Are you a Travel Club member?' Very disappointing,Misrepresentations,Go elsewhere

The following review of Casa Helen’s deficiencies is greatly curtailed to accommodate the allotted word count. *Upon our arrival the place was filthy and had a distinct odor necessitating the purchase of cleaning supplies, fragrant candles, spray deodorizer & new shower curtain and required hours of cleaning the counters, shelves, furniture, every dish, bowl, glass, pot and pan to make the unit habitable. *The furniture was antiquated & not comfortable, a thin mattress with no box spring, made for an unpleasant squeaky night’s sleep. *The listing states there was WiFi but failed to mention the WiFi was piggybacked from a neighbor's service, resulting in intermitten and sparse WiFi at best. *6:30am one morning we awoke to no electricity, checked the breakers all appeared to be OK, we got dressed in the dark, forced to eat out, emailed James (manager) of problem, we arrived back to find the electricity back on with a note saying the electricity periodically does go out, if it happens again turn the breakers off, wait a few minutes and then back on. *The washer spin cycle did not work properly leaving clothes dripping wet, forced to bring towels to a laundromat to dry clothes. Listing shows dryer is included. James’ response to problem, "yes, I had the same problem when I stayed there a few weeks back. *The next day no hot water, contacted James he responded by email stating the hot water tank heater probably ran out of gas, instructed us to go outside, back of the building and change the gas tank with the spare one. *Casa Helen’s description listed other falsifications that For Visits of more than 10 days will receive a mid-stay bedding and towels change. We rented the apartment for 30 days, did not receive any bedding or towel change. *The unit was listed as a first floor apartment but it is up a flight of stairs making it difficult for anyone with impaired walking. If the previous listed negative features of renting Casa Helen were not enough, our experience was exacerbated when it came time to return the security deposit. James deducted funds from our security deposit based on the fact that he incurred bank charges for the wire transfer of funds. That is a cost of doing business and nowhere in the listing or the rental form was it stated, nor did we agree to be responsible for their bank fees. *At the time of booking, the rental rate was increased. James' response was that the rental fee quoted in Home Away was incorrect. Potential guest beware...

Owner's Response: Ted’s review should have said “Strange that all the other reviews are 5*!Upon arrival we noticed an odour.Manager James advised this was likely the result of the apartment having been empty for a few weeks after being repainted.He visited shortly after our arrivalμst have thought we suffered from OCD as everything was being cleaned!Our extreme standards are illustrated by us,for reasons of hygiene and cleanliness, wrapping the TV&DVD remotes in cling film!The mattresses were old and poor.James took this on board&took immediate steps with the owner to ensure that all they were replaced with new ones, unfortunately not until after we had left.At 6:30 we woke 1 morning to find no electricity&dressed in the dark rather than call James.A couple of hours later the electricity had been promptly&efficiently restored&James kindly left a note explaining how to re-boot the circuit breakers should it reoccur-which it didn’t.The washing machine failed to spin≤ft the load wet.Again we elected not to call for help but chose to take unilateral action.James had discovered that some cycles do not include a spin&advised how to select a cycle which did.The next day there was no hot water.Again I decided to email rather than phone for help.James gave very precise&detailed written instructions enabling the gas cylinder to be quickly changed-there’s no piped gas in the area.Casa Helen’s advert detailed bedding and towel changes for stays of over 10 days.Unfortunately James didn’t make it clear that the reason we received a discount of +/-€400 on the weekly-let prices was because long-let guests are expected to launder their own bedding and towels.He apologised for his error.The unit was listed on the 1st floor.We didn’t realise that in Europe ‘1st floor’ means 1 floor above the ground level and we failed to notice that the advert stated that it is accessed via stairs.No problem for us though!When it came to repay our security deposit James withheld part of it.He had informed us of a shortage as soon as our payment was received &Spanish bank docs show the shortage was deducted by our US bank,resulting in the payment being exactlyUS$25 less than agreed.James paid his bank charges and split the $25 50/50 as it was proving difficult to ascertain the reason for the charge, but I didn’t reply to his kind offer.We also complained that the rental rate had been increased from the original quote but failed to note that the website clearly offered an ‘Estimated Amount’ - not a quote.”

Perfect Spanish home from home

Casa Helen has everything you could wish for and more. The terrace was lovely to sit on in the warm evening. The beds were comfortable. Fab pool although lacking in sun beds we bought some which did for the amazing beach at Arenal too! Lots of fair priced restaurants on the beach and further to the harbour end (Scallops is worth a visit by the fair) Great market on Thursday, esp if you like bags! We went to aqua land, well worth the money. We had a car, but the bus stop is close. In the end we walked in to town and back as it isn't far, 20mins or so. We had a wonderful time! Thank you and would definitely recommend!

Lovely Location and perfect for a family of 3 or 4

We had a great stay at Casa Helen, it had everything we needed for a week including plenty of beach equipment saving us lots of money on buckets and spades! We hired a car so we had more freedom to venture out and enjoyed visiting all the different beaches along the coast. The bedroom fans were a great hit especially in the evening at bed time and helped us all to get a good nights sleep. The pool is huge! and not very busy at all and great depth for little ones too. We would highly reccomend a stay here as the place is great and the area beautiful. Thank you.

Perfect living!

We had a great time in a very nice house in a great place. We where four adults and an eighteen months old . It suited us perfect . We can absolutely rent this again.

Casa perfecta y limpia para una familia de 4. Dispone de todas las comodidades necesarias para pasar unos días en la playa. En cuanto al casero una persona encantadora y dispuesta. Estuvo presente siempre que se le necesitó para asuntos menores.

Casa Helen is part of a lovely 'Toscamar' garden complex with many lovely palm and pine trees. It offers a very 'green' environment for a safe & peaceful family holiday. The complex is fully gated so you can allow your children to roam freely safe in the knowledge that they can't just wander onto the road. The large swimming pool is also fenced and gated to keep youngsters safe and there's a life guard on duty during the summer.The apartments are build in the traditional 'pueblo' style and are located in a wide pedestrian only walkway. The first floor apartment (up 1 flight of stairs) is comfortably and well equipped with a first class modern kitchen. There's a spacious living / dining room and a cool glazed 'naja' which looks down onto the fountain in the quiet walkway and its adjacent gardens.

There are 2 bedrooms - a double and a twin. An easy to operate sofa bed & a folding 'Z-Bed' allow for 6 to sleep. Both bedrooms have built-in wardrobes. The living / dining room, both bedrooms and the bathroom are heated, so it is comfortable for our winter visitors too.

The beautiful garden complex boasts a large swimming pool as well as a kiddies paddling pool. There is a (seasonal) 24 hour reception to assist you in any way they can. Enjoy the poolside bar & restaurant, relax on a lounger under a parasol with a book and have a glass of wine or a beer and some tapas while the children enjoy the pools. Or be energetic and enjoy a game of tennis on one of the complex's 2 courts which are adjacent to the pool area (for a small fee).

There is ample secure parking spaces inside the complex, entry to which is via secure gates opened by a remote control. There is a Dive Centre nearby and cycle hire is available locally. A very good supermarket is 10 minutes walk away and there is an Aldi nearby as well as local supermarkets at the Arenal.

When you want a sandy beach or a lively night out, a bus service – operating every 30 minutes until late at night – will, from just outside the gates and in less than 5 minutes, take you to and from Javea’s famous 'Arenal’ beach said to be 'The Jewel of the Costa Blanca'. The beach slopes gently into the warm clear waters of the Mediterranean and is excellent for young children. The Arenal has numerous bars, restaurants & shops on its long curving promenade which stretches around Javea bay. Here you will find budget or cordon bleu restaurants, bars & night-spots to suit every taste and pocket. If you want to stay out late - later than the bus runs, don't worry! It's not too far to walk and there's a taxi rank at the Arenal and being only a few miutes away it's not expensive, so no problem!

The rugged & rocky Cala Blanca beach is 10 minutes walk away. Fancy climbing the Montgo mountain? It requires no special equipment or experience and the view is awesome (too hot in summer though). Drive to the pretty Granadella beach (10 minutes) and enjoy lunch at the beachside restaurant there. Try the 'chiringhito' beach bars on the coast between the Arenal and the Port.

Golfers will be pleased to learn of the Javea course as well as others at nearby Moraira and Jesus Pobre.

Take a day out and visit Denia to the north or Moraira to the south. Both are about 20 minutes away and offer beaches, restaurants and shopping as well as such things as go-karting or horse riding, both of which are also available in Javea. Or head in land to the Jalon Valley or to Benidorm to visit the Terra Mitica theme park or Aqualandia Water Park or stay in Javea and visit Javea Port with its shops, bars, restaurants and stony beach. Or the historic 'Old Town' with its medieval church and cool narrow walkways between period buildings. And shop for clothes, leather goods, shoes, fruit, vegetables, cheeses and olives at the Thursday morning market in Javea old town.
