A secluded cozy retreat with authentinc Tuscan charme.
A hidden gem immersed in the Tuscan contryside
Great Villa, old Tuscan style, but very comfortable. If you like mod cons this place is not for you, but if you want a beautiful traditional Tuscan villa, then this is for you.
Large grounds with a nice pool. 15 mins walk to the village.
We stayed at Villa La Gioga for a week in May as part of a longer trip exploring Tuscany and the North of Italy. After a hectic couple of weeks we were ready for some R&R and the villa was perfect for that! There is quite a lot of choice in Tuscany when it comes to choosing a villa, we found it quite difficult to establish without further enquiries to how private some villas were-whether or not pool facilities were shared etc. La Gioga is completely private, not looked onto with only a couple of distant neighbours, the grounds are extensive, I wondered around one day and couldn’t actually tell where the villa grounds ended.
The directions given by the owners were great, it is a bit off the beaten path but if you follow the directions you shouldn’t have any issues. I’m not sure what the previous reviewer meant by having problems with the drive, unless it’s been modified we didn’t have any issue getting down the drive to the front door in a standard hire car. Speaking to the owners the original house was built in the 17th century so has a lot of rustic charm. The main attraction for us having spent a week there were the pool area and outdoor kitchen area. We spent our days relaxing by the pool and in the evening cooked out meals in the outdoor kitchen enjoying good food and wine.
The house itself is perfectly comfortable but if I was being critical the owners could think about revising the layout to maximise it’s potential as a holiday let. There were only two of us so in general we were fine but a few observations.
We had a fantastic week in the villa. Monte San Savino is a beautiful walled town and providing you have a car there is much to do and see within easy driving distance. After a hectic previous couple of weeks we did not stray too far from the villa. There is a CO-OP
Immersed in the countryside near Monte San Savino, a peaceful oasis just a short drive from the medieval village.
