|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
Close to Albi, the Grange at La Valette is a fully renovated barn with two double bedrooms, two bathrooms and a very large living area. The fully equipped kitchen has a dishwasher, microwave, oven and hob units. We provide all the equipment required including TV, video, BBQ, mountain bikes, and linen and towels. The pool is exclusive to the gite and is situated in its own grounds within the 2 acre garden.
The area is peaceful, yet only 20 minutes by car from Albi (famous for its cathedral and Toulouse-Lautrec museum). The beautiful Tarn valley is very close, where there is canoeing, cycling and walking. In the region there is lots to see and do including the bastide villages, wine growing, activity centres and wildlife parks.
With easy access from the airports of Toulouse (1.15hrs) and Rodez (1.15hrs) this is a lovely part of France and well worth a visit. We will make you very welcome at La Valette.
Golf: There is a very good golf club in Albi (Lasbordes) and another two nearby. Clubs are available for hire and green fees vary but are around 35-50 Euros.
Taking bookings now for 2014.
We have been living in the Tarn since 2002 and have greatly enjoyed this unspoilt region of France. Having traveled the world and lived in many different parts of the world (La Valette is house No; 26 in 41 years of marriage), we have a wealth of experience in hospitality.
Peter and Lizie Wildman purchased this barn in 2000
We are able to offer, on request, a limited selection of prepared evening meals
La Valette is close to Albi and is ideal for a family holiday with so much to see and do and in particular you will benefit from exclusive use of the heated swimming pool. The gite is large with plenty of space and is fully equipped for your holiday.
Very spacious gite, in lovely grounds. The photos don't do it justice. The pool was brilliant, the kids were in within 20 minutes of arriving and every day after. The gite has everything you might need, Peter and Lizie have thought of everything! Nearby Albi is beautiful and there are some picturesque villages nearby. The moules frites at Le Grand Chene is a good night out, there is a bouncy castle next the restaurant for the kids, while you have an aperatif... There is also a fantastic tree adventure park at St Pierre de Trivisy, for adults as well as children - great fun! If you're a family of four then this gite comes highly recommended.
I wanted to write a nasty review so that we could be sure of getting the dates we want when we go back again. But my wife has told me to be sensible. So here we go.
After first visiting in July/August 2013 we decided to go back in the summer of 2014. We found we hadn't explored enough of the area and the children (aged 7 and 9) wanted to go back to "their" swimming pool which Peter takes great pride in maintaining.
The barn and the grounds are wonderful for the children and there is LOTS of room. The owners are across the drive and didn't seem to mind our noiseboxes playing football, rugby or shouting around the pool. For the adults, it was really relaxing. You can sit under a chestnut tree and drink rosé while the kids run. The lane is hardly used. Villefranche nearby has most of what you need (bakery, small Super U, a small bar) although we went to Albi to get a big shop a couple of times at Leclerc. The barn is really well kitted out and the Saturday cleaning is thorough and good. Peter and Lizie are marvellous people and, as I have reason to know, are massively helpful if you have unexpected problems.
The area is a little off the tourist track but there are plenty of things to see. I personally liked Ambialet a lot, Cordes sur Ciel is close enough too and you can go to Toulouse (if you must!). We mix self-catering with occasional restaurant visits. Peter and Lizie can give you tips. Le Grand Chene at Frejairroles for mussels was a permanent date for us.
It is a super place to chill out and I would unequivocally recommend it.
The setting is fantastic - beautiful and tranquil . There were four adults in our party , there was plenty of space for us each couple had our own bathroom/toilet. The owners Peter and Lizie were wonderful providing us with lots of information about places to visit and of course there was the absolutely fantastic swimming pool. Would recommend it!
As a family we have stayed in numerous gites and villas around Europe and without doubt this is one of the best we have stayed in.
The gite is a great size, well furnished, clean, well equipped and comfortable.
The pool is large and lovely to jump into when the sun got too hot.
The whole experience of La Vallette is one of relaxation and enjoyment.
Peter and Lizzie are very welcoming and knowledgable.
The whole area is very pretty, there are lots of pretty interesting villages to visit and Albi is a particularly lovely town to visit.
Nearer to La Vallette a friday evening at Lu Barry with Mussels and Chips is very enjoyable.
La Vallette is highly recommended and definitely on our list of re-visits
We were lucky enough to chance upon this property whilst arranging a last minute holiday flying from Edinburgh to Toulouse in June 2009.
The accommodation was excellent - spotlessly clean, comfortable beds with a well equipped and stocked kitchen for self-catering. A real home from home with everything you could need by way of entertainment in the well-stocked bookcases, CDs, DVDs, games etc.
A beautiful heated pool for relaxing and recharging the batteries. But if you can tear yourself away, a visit to Albi is a must. The spectacular bridge at Millau was also a highlight as was our visit to the "really French" local market at Realmont.
Most of all Peter and Lizie were splendid hosts and provided a wealth of local knowledge. Their attention to detail couldn't be faulted.
The only downside? The photographs barely do the accommodation justice and a week was nowhere near enough time to spend at La Valette.
Our stay in this lovely spacious converted barn exceeded our expectations. This delightful hamlet in the hills above Albi made a great base from which to explore the region; although rural it was not isolated. The local village of Villefranche d'Albigeois had a good range of shops, bars and cafes and friendly inhabitants. Albi could easily be reached in 15 minutes and provided facilities such as supermarkets and restaurants.
The well maintained accommodation was furnished with charm and flair; attractive pieces of local furniture, pictures and china combined to provide a delightful ambience. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen area well equipped - all was spotless.
A good selection of books, CDs, DVDs and an iPod docking system were much appreciated as was the use of bicycles, the wonderful salt water pool and barbecue. A morning cycle ride to the village to collect fresh bread and croissants soon became routine for the more energetic members of the party.
Peter and Lizie were attentive and endearing hosts with a fund of useful local knowledge and provided us with a with a good range of suggestions of what to see and do locally.
Highlights of our visit included trips to Toulouse, Albi and Castres, exploring local bastides and kayaking on the Tarn (this was deemed to be so good that a second trip had to be undertaken!). The area had a good selection of local restaurants - we particularly enjoyed the restaurant at Alban.
Sadly 10 days was not long enough to fit in all we wanted to do but all were agreed that La Valette provided the ideal combination of being a great place in which to relax with plenty to do and see.
Close to the small village of Villefranche d'Albigeois and 15kms from the historic city of Albi in the Tarn region of south west France. The village has all amenities including a butcher, baker, pharmacy, supermarket and two bars.
