We have just spent a wondeful Christmas week in this warm and welcoming home. We felt right at home right from the start as we were greeted by Aubry, the owner, and shown around this very interesting, eclectic hide away. We were a family of 7, with three kids and two grandparents, and Aubry had made sure we were all accommodated and had even put out some Christmas decorations to add to the warm atmoshere.
Leading up to our stay we had very good, prompt communication with Aubry who happily answered all our questions and sent all relevant information for our arrival.
We loved our week staying here, going to the village in the morning to pick up something for breakfast from the local boulangerie and enjoying walks along the river. We had two days in Paris, which was very accessible on the train, although you could walk, we parked at Herblay station as we would be back quite late. We also enjoyed a day at Versailles which was well worth the visit. The location is very convenient for day trips and makes a great base for a family break. We all came away feeling like we had had a real escape, enjoying the eclectic decor and natural surroundings.
We hope to make a return visit one day and would love to see the area in the Summer next time.
Many thanks for a wonderful week.
You have to stay at this property! It's fun upon entering the door. Our family of 5 spent several nights in this treehouse, a sort of nouveau Swiss Family Robinson style with interesting decor and antiquities, hide-and-go-seek lighting and comfortable greenery all around. This is a great experience for families with kids in the 8+ range. The riverfront is a very short walk and is starkly different than the busy Seine of Paris, good for a very quiet and peaceful stroll. Despite its remote village feel, it is a quick and easy 20 minute train ride to central Paris. Just as delightful as the house is the host. Aubry went out of his way to meet us at the house and show us around, and was very available for questions and suggestions.
Come prepared to walk as the house is on a steep hillside and the villages and train station are uphill. Also recommend not packing a lot of luggage, or if you do simply park on the water front (easy parking) and walk to the house rather than drive the narrow road. Herblay doesn't have a lot (La Frette sur Seine even less) but there's a small market and a great boulangerie. If you want to eat at the creperie make reservations!
This house was a highlight of a month long trip, not something I'd typically say about accommodations! We'll definitely look for an opportunity to return.
This cottage was amazing. There are so many antiquities and treasures inside. Plenty of room for our party of 7 to sleep comfortably. The small villages of Montigny and Herblay were beautiful and fascinating. Unlike America each small shop carries only one type of item, like bread or meat or flowers. Please know that there are a lot of steps to get here and make sure you have very explicit instructions. We were quite lost for a couple of hours. Luckily the neighbors were kind and when we finally found a way to contact Aubrey he found us. We made this mistake of traveling without data.... It is not a long walk to the train station but it is definitely uphill. We were glad at this point not to have a toddler or an unfit person in our group. Also - do not bring lots of luggage!! Only a backpack is our recommendation and a light one at that! This lovely home is an hour from Paris by train but if you are someone who will enjoy the small towns outside of Paris you will love it. If you have plenty of time, you will get to know the locals.
We really loved the Hill House. Aubrey has decorated the inside in a lovely, eclectic, cozy manner, and the exterior is just as delightful. He was a wonderful host, going to great pains to be sure we had everything we needed. The train ride is just a short distance from Paris. We hope to come again someday!!!
This apartment was absolutely perfect for our first trip to Paris. I can't say enough good things about it. The décor is so eclectic and interesting. You see new things every day. The bedrooms and living areas are comfortable and spacious and the owner has thought of everything you'd need. The water is hot (good water pressure too) and the surrounding area looks just like a French painting. It's a little bit of a walk to the metro but we're a couple of 50 year old ladies and we managed it. It's well worth the walk through the beautiful area. Once to the train/metro you can go anywhere you want in Paris. Of course if you had a car it would even be better. The little town of Herblay, nearby, has supplies and is a nice break from the tourist areas. The owner of this apartment is absolutely the perfect host. I would be honored to call him a friend. After seeing Paris for the first time, I'm set on going back and if I do, I would definitely stay at this apartment again if I'm welcome.
Staying at The Hill House was a wonderful experience for us all. Situated in peaceful surroundings, overlooking the Seine, the property was a visual feast inside and out - 2 lovely patio's, delightful terraces, fascinating and eclectic decor throughout creating a marvellous ambience. La Frette-sur-Seine is quiet and friendly and the local Creperie is highly recommended. We largely chose to cater for ourselves, though, and enjoyed relaxing meals in the shade of the surrounding greenery. The proprietor, Aubry, could not have been more helpful and was very happy to lend a bicycle for the duration of our stay. We will definitely be returning!
