Must Stay

  • 5 of 5

You have to stay at this property! It's fun upon entering the door. Our family of 5 spent several nights in this treehouse, a sort of nouveau Swiss Family Robinson style with interesting decor and antiquities, hide-and-go-seek lighting and comfortable greenery all around. This is a great experience for families with kids in the 8+ range. The riverfront is a very short walk and is starkly different than the busy Seine of Paris, good for a very quiet and peaceful stroll. Despite its remote village feel, it is a quick and easy 20 minute train ride to central Paris. Just as delightful as the house is the host. Aubry went out of his way to meet us at the house and show us around, and was very available for questions and suggestions.

Come prepared to walk as the house is on a steep hillside and the villages and train station are uphill. Also recommend not packing a lot of luggage, or if you do simply park on the water front (easy parking) and walk to the house rather than drive the narrow road. Herblay doesn't have a lot (La Frette sur Seine even less) but there's a small market and a great boulangerie. If you want to eat at the creperie make reservations!

This house was a highlight of a month long trip, not something I'd typically say about accommodations! We'll definitely look for an opportunity to return.

Owner's Response: Jon, Shira and their children are a really very nice family. The 3 children are so very charming. You can feel it immediately, from the first moment you meet them. And everything becomes a great pleasure to welcome them and to take steps to improve their home comfort. A big thank you to them, and welcome next time with pleasure. Sincerely. Aubry

Quaint cottage in a lovely location

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was amazing. There are so many antiquities and treasures inside. Plenty of room for our party of 7 to sleep comfortably. The small villages of Montigny and Herblay were beautiful and fascinating. Unlike America each small shop carries only one type of item, like bread or meat or flowers. Please know that there are a lot of steps to get here and make sure you have very explicit instructions. We were quite lost for a couple of hours. Luckily the neighbors were kind and when we finally found a way to contact Aubrey he found us. We made this mistake of traveling without data.... It is not a long walk to the train station but it is definitely uphill. We were glad at this point not to have a toddler or an unfit person in our group. Also - do not bring lots of luggage!! Only a backpack is our recommendation and a light one at that! This lovely home is an hour from Paris by train but if you are someone who will enjoy the small towns outside of Paris you will love it. If you have plenty of time, you will get to know the locals.

Owner's Response: Dear Viki, Thank you very much for your coming and your review. It was a pleasure to welcome you. Let me correct a detail and provide additional information for the next travelers. By train from Paris, you need around 18 mins: sometimes 20mins (direct but with 3 stop), or only 14mins if you have a direct train without stop. The name of the Station near The Hill House is LA FRETTE MONTIGNY. You have a train every 15 minutes from Paris SAINT LAZARE station. Paris Saint Lazare station is very central, nearby "galeries Lafayette" store, Opéra theater, Madeleine place (nearby Concorde place and Champs Elysées). LA FRETTE MONTIGNY is the station nearby the House: 1,2km. By foot 10 mins from the Station to the house. More from the House to the station, because the station is on the top of the hill and the house is down by the river. Up the hill is more difficult by feet (of course!). By car, only 1 minutes and you can park your car nearby the station. It's free. If you have to walk, with a roller suitcase that's perfect. I always sends all information before arrival. (Home address, public transport or by car, nearby shops ...). But if you lose or forgotten these informations, you'll can always find them on the personnal website of the house with plans. Or by finding them with the history of our discussions on HomeAway. Or latter, effectively asking the neighbors. They are always very friendly and happy to help. But if you are lost, you call me on the phone, I will always find you. Thank you again dear Viki, and see you next time with pleasure. Aubry

Beautiful, relaxing and pleasant stay!

  • 5 of 5

We really loved the Hill House. Aubrey has decorated the inside in a lovely, eclectic, cozy manner, and the exterior is just as delightful. He was a wonderful host, going to great pains to be sure we had everything we needed. The train ride is just a short distance from Paris. We hope to come again someday!!!

Owner's Response: Krista and David come from USA with your children (a lovely large family), for a very long and beautiful trip through Europe. They stayed four days at The Hill House by going to Paris every day, with great joy and enthusiasm. It was really very nice to welcome them and try to facilitate their stay and movement. They are sincerely so many stylish people with very lovely children. I hope next time with pleasure.

FABULOUS!

  • 5 of 5

This apartment was absolutely perfect for our first trip to Paris. I can't say enough good things about it. The décor is so eclectic and interesting. You see new things every day. The bedrooms and living areas are comfortable and spacious and the owner has thought of everything you'd need. The water is hot (good water pressure too) and the surrounding area looks just like a French painting. It's a little bit of a walk to the metro but we're a couple of 50 year old ladies and we managed it. It's well worth the walk through the beautiful area. Once to the train/metro you can go anywhere you want in Paris. Of course if you had a car it would even be better. The little town of Herblay, nearby, has supplies and is a nice break from the tourist areas. The owner of this apartment is absolutely the perfect host. I would be honored to call him a friend. After seeing Paris for the first time, I'm set on going back and if I do, I would definitely stay at this apartment again if I'm welcome.

A bientôt j'espère...

Wonderfully situated, relaxing and a joy

  • 5 of 5

Staying at The Hill House was a wonderful experience for us all. Situated in peaceful surroundings, overlooking the Seine, the property was a visual feast inside and out - 2 lovely patio's, delightful terraces, fascinating and eclectic decor throughout creating a marvellous ambience. La Frette-sur-Seine is quiet and friendly and the local Creperie is highly recommended. We largely chose to cater for ourselves, though, and enjoyed relaxing meals in the shade of the surrounding greenery. The proprietor, Aubry, could not have been more helpful and was very happy to lend a bicycle for the duration of our stay. We will definitely be returning!

Quirky and ecclectic property with a great host.

  • 4 of 5

This is an unusual property, perhaps best suited to one or two couples as it is generally open-plan but divided with curtains. The 'main' bathroom (with shower over bath) is part of one sleeping area and there is a separate shower off the main living area, which is actually an outside shower but very refreshing when the weather is amenable.

Access road is very, very restricted so follow owners advice carefully when arriving. IF you have a long car, stop short of the property and walk to the entrance as the turning space outside Hill House is very tight.

The host/owner is very pleasant, helpful and welcoming.

Hill House is convenient for Paris in terms of driving and train. Trains are every 30 mins and run into the early hours. However, both the nearby train station involve something of a hill climb to get to them so they are not ideal for anyone unsteady on their feet or unfit.

Overall, its a good property if you like being close a city but not actually in it

Owner's Response: Thank you Peter for your very nice message. Indeed, the house is in a narrow way and one-way (also very quiet). Usually I always send a plan of the area before (with practical inforamtions to park for free close) for those arriving by car. Unfortunately, I forgot to send it to you before your arrival. Again my apologies. But fortunately, you beings an extremely smart and pleasant person. Again thank you for your understanding. For more information about public transportation: There a train every 15 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes in the evening until 24:40. Direct to Central Paris Saint Lazare Station (travel 18min or sometime only 10min). Moreover, I have a little defect (I confess). I tend to prefer the aesthetics of interior decoration. I tend to do as I like myself. It is difficult to change oneself (smiley). Especially initially, this cottage was not intended for rental, but for personal occupation. That's why there are so decorative items and books ... I hope that this can be shared and enjoyed by vacationers. See you... Sincerely.
