Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday villa in Montenegro - The Old Vine House

Beautifully restored old stone house with 3 bedrooms,

The Old Vine House has thick stone walls, wooden floors and exposed beams throughout and is decorated in cool white with specially commissioned paintings adorning the walls.

Downstairs there is a modern, fully equipped open-plan kitchen and dining area that adjoin the sitting room with low ceilings and a polished stone floor. There is also a small utility room. The lounge area comes with comfortable double sofas and an entertainment system and a window looking out onto the vine covered terrace in front of the property.

The upper floors are accessed by a spiral staircase that leads up to three bedrooms. On the first floor there are two bedrooms (double/twin) with whitewashed walls, exposed internal stone walls and wooden flooring. Each room has hanging and storage space and windows that overlook the vine covered terrace. The two bedrooms are serviced by a shower room. The top floor, in the eaves, has spectacular views across Kotor Bay and comprises a double bedroom with a small en-suite shower room.

Outside, the vine covered terrace is the perfect place to enjoy a hearty breakfast while you plan the days ahead.

About Emma

I’m quite new to Montenegro but I’m having a great time discovering the country and visiting all our wonderful properties. My favourite properties are in the centre of towns or villages so I can walk to coffee shops and enjoy the atmosphere of the Old Towns.

Emma purchased this villa in 2012

Why Emma chose Montenegro

Perast is a wonderful historical location with beautiful architecture right on the seafront. The three-storey design means that the parents get the best view of Perast from the master suite and the open plan downstairs is a very social environment for all the family.

What makes this villa unique

Old Vine House is great for families and because Perast is pedestrianised in the summer, the children can play outside care-free!

Guestbook comments from the manager

The Old Vine House was lovely and Perast was beautiful. The website was an excellent representation of what to expect. We had a lovely holiday and were thoroughly rested and relaxed at the end of it.

Beautiful location in great country

  • 5 of 5

I would recommend this lovely property. It is in the heart of Perast, a unesco world heritage site that has some super character and lies in the heart of Kotor Bay. There are cafe's and restaurants close by - I think we tried a different one every lunch and dinner - some local, some more touristy, the food was good and the locals were very friendly (and spoke english thank goodness). We had a lovely time and although a little apprehensive initially about visiting a new country, my fears were swept aside when we got there. It helped that eating out was so cheap that it meant hardly any cooking or washing up!

As a side point, we flew into Dubrovnik and crossed the border into Montenegro, which was no hassle at all :-)

Situated a few kilometres northwest of Kotor, Perast is one of Montenegro’s most picturesque settlements, with pretty winding lanes and countless churches set against a backdrop of rugged cliffs and the forests of Mount Orjen. Grand merchant houses lie along its seafront, an echo of the time when Perast was a prosperous Venetian-era trading town on the western edge of the Ottoman Empire.

An ideal base for exploring the Bay of Kotor and beyond, Perast has been perfectly preserved and boasts some of the finest examples of baroque architecture on the Adriatic Coast. Palaces, churches and old stone mansions line the water’s edge, and the stone promenade is a charming place to while away a few hours in the sunshine, with the enticing aromas of almond cake – a traditional Perast sweet scenting the air.

The town looks out onto the Verige strait – the narrowest part of the Bay of Kotor – and distinctive twin islands, each with a picturesque chapel. The Abbey of St George was first established by the Benedictines as early as the 9th century on a natural island, while the neighbouring Our Lady of the Rock adorns a manmade islet built and enlarged over centuries by depositing stones and scuttled sailing ships around a small crag. The first known church was built there in 1452, and the present Byzantine chapel went up in 1632, with the domed sanctuary added ninety years later.

Quiet and beautiful, Perast is one of the highlights of this stunning region, and a delightful base from which to visit quaint fishing villages alongside the deep blue waters of Kotor Bay and other historic towns nestling among the trees of the surrounding hills.

Notes:
Tucked away in the narrow cobbled streets of the enchanting village of Perast, this quaint town house is a perfect getaway. Escape to exquisitely preserved Perast – with its tall-spired churches, medieval watchtowers and Baroque Palaces – it is one of the most delightful waterfront villages on the Bay of Kotor. This charming three bedroom town house has been lovingly restored and is equipped with modern features. The upper floor offers dazzling views of the deep blue sea, the surrounding green mountains, and the honey-tinged walls and rooftops of the once medieval trading centre below. Located just minutes away from Perast's main square, it makes the ideal base, whether for simply taking in the historic atmosphere or for exploring the whole unique Kotor Bay area. You are only a short drive away from the spectacular walled city of Kotor, “Porto Montenegro” and the beaches of the Lustica peninsula.
