About Mark and Carol Peterson
We have bought and renovated many houses over our lifetime and Thea was a particular challenge because everything needed to be upgraded. Once we got the first floor in livable condition we raised the roof on one side to allow for two queen size bedrooms with water view and two smaller bedrooms behind. Over the years we continued to make cosmetic improvements - our latest being new counters in the kitchen. At this point there is very little of the original house left.
Mark and Carol Peterson purchased this House in 1986
Why Mark and Carol Peterson chose Freeport
We had been looking for a summer home on the Maine Coast for many years and when we saw this property we bought it in our hearts before we'd even viewed the interior. The location was everything! Coincidental with this is we spent several summer family vacations on Bustin's, the little island that one can from this location. Now when our adult children return each summer with their own children we all journey out to there to see where we spent many pleasant times as a young family.
What makes this House unique
Being the last house on a point is indeed a unique feature. Often during the full moon or the new moon, the causeway we drive across covers with a few inches to a eighteen inches of water at high tide. End result? We're an island for ten minutes to two hours depending on the height of the tide. The tidal changes also brings changing wild life to our area. Great Blue Herons come and go with the tides as do geese, ducks, ospreys, and even striped bass. Our grandson caught a 22" one off the beach in front of our deck. The best part is when an eagle comes to roost in one of the high pine trees in hopes of scoring a baby osprey.

The property is beautiful, and the location is close to town, but you feel isolated. Just like we like it. Wish we could have stayed longer. Loved walking the beach at low tide and looking for "treasure".
These folks were great guests and had to put up with a power failure due to an intense "Nor-easter". They dealt with it gracefully and we were delighted to have them. We'd have them back in a minute.

Comfortable Casio Bay Retreat
Any traveler seeking quiet, comfort and natural beauty need look no further than a stay atThea! This home away from home had everything our group of four needed—from comfy beds to a well-stocked kitchen to absolutely incredible views. We also really appreciated the many artistic touches throughout the house.Thea is situated both close enough to Freeport for convenience, and far enough away for peace and privacy. Thea is a traveler’s treasure!
We are delighted with this review and with the folks who stayed in our home. They were excellent communicators, thoughtful, and very responsive. We believe that they captured what we feel about hour home: it is peaceful, secluded and has splendid views. Yet it's close to town.
8 Days in May
This property was exactly as advertised and rated: outstanding for those who like the serenity of a waterfront home that is fully appointed. The owners were very helpful throughout booking and during our stay. The house has very good instructions on everything mechanical and electrical, as well as very clear and fair "do's" and "don'ts". Kitchen was well stocked with anything one might want to use, including lots of usable condiments, oils, coffee and even some food(like ice cream) that one could take on an honor basis, ie, replace what you use.
Our guest has captured the essence of our desire and effort to provide you with a pleasant stay in our home.
Great in every way
Beautiful house, scenery....everything.
A great week
We had unusually good weather for June which permitted us to really enjoy this property. Everything was well maintained and well prepared.
We are always glad for weather that is appealing to our guests. (Sometimes folks like it when it is cold and than can snuggle down in our home with a fire in the stove.) These guests were easy to communicate with and very responsible. We hope they will come again.
Hide away in the woods.
We had a wonderful time at Thea! My children loved being able to just walk out the door and explore the tide pools and look for crabs and beach glass. We saw seals out on the rocks at the end of the point two of the mornings we were there. It is a perfect location, you are close to town yet you can come back to a little hide away in the woods.
As always, we are grateful for a review that captures the essence of this magical place we call our home. We hope Kelly B will come again next year.
Close to Portland, Freeport shopping (home of LLBean), Bowdoin College, museums in Bath and Brunswick, and many state parks and beaches. Our home, almost surrounded by water and at the high tides with the new moon and the full moon, briefly becomes an island. Under most circumstances this does not impact your visit. Once in a while though you have to use our tide charts to plan when you will leave or return.
