Typical French rustic property in need of some mod cons - especially service offered.
This could be a lovely holiday experience. The house is set in a valley in the lower Alpes region surrounded by glorious wild life. Wild deer, boar, birds of pry, large toads, snakes and many others. Great for cycling and walking. But the house with its very cold swimming pool is to be desired and any requests made to the owners made you feel as if they were doing you a favour rather than offering you a service. Whilst they are very responsive in replying you are left feeling a burden - something that when paying hard earned money makes you feel resentful of booking. We clearly had rodents in the property but little was done to manage this. Simple things like a cover on the pool to keep heat in, upgrade of light sheets for hot weather and fans would makes house experience more pleasant and less of a warning around use of the new garden grill from the gardener would make you feel more welcomed rather than indebted to the owners for ‘allowing’ us to stay! Also archaic system of added extra costs for towels and utilities- just increase daily rate.
Such a shame as we had worked so hard for our family holiday and our children had traveled the globe to join us throughout different times. Still we loved being together and both nearby Sospel and Menton have great people and sights.
Comfortable, rustic home in Sospel, France
We were looking for a home large enough to accommodate 7 adults. The place was the right size for the 7 of us. We focused on the back country and the location was just right.
The windy road to the place took some getting used to but we finally enjoyed those hairpin turns:) There is an extra fee for towels or bring your own, that is the only thing we were not used to when renting a vacation home. Other than that the place worked out very well!!
Happy that you enjoyed your holidays in our house
Amazing Location, great house
This is a lovely place for a holiday. Amazing rural location, great pool, lots of parking, BBQ area with outside seating and 2 outside eating tables !! .
We were a group of friends in the area for a biking holiday and this place was more than we could have hoped. We arrived by car and found the place fairly easily as we had the very precise Google maps location. The villa is accessed from the main road down a steep concrete drive. The entrance to which is not totally obvious and you have to be careful with speeding drivers. you descend the drive and enter the private drive to the property through the large gates. This then takes you down to the house and its parking which is in a secluded valley with some land and some friendly cows in a neighbouring field. It sits in a deep valley with tall hill to the west and east. There are hills to the south but they do not block the sun.
The house has a south facing terrace with a sunshade and large table for al fresco dining. It also has a BBQ area on the pool level with some outdoor seating a small table by the entrance to the pool. The pool itself is perfect for lounging in after a hot day biking or sightseeing. its about 8-10m long and about 3-4m wide. It has about 6 loungers around it and when we were there, it caught the sun from about 7am until 6.15pm.
The house was clean and tidy when we arrived, with fresh bedding at the end of each bed.
The kitchen is not huge but is well stocked and fine for cooking for up to 8 people .
Bedrooms are fine but one of the bedrooms is on an upstairs mezzanine/internal balcony and doesn't offer much privacy. we didn't have an issue but some might.
If you want to eat out simply, we used a couple of the restaurants in Sospel and found them well priced. Sospel is a nice little town but the walks in the surrounding hills are spectacular.
Overall it exceeded our expectations and we would come again ....
