Make a holiday villa in St. Armands Key your home away from home
St. Armands Key holiday villas are found on the eponymous island lying off Sarasota, Florida, one of the barrier islands creating the Intracoastal Waterway of the Gulf Coast. With their proximity to Sarasota only a couple of miles over the causeway, as well as the greater Tampa Bay area further afield, St. Armands Key apartments and villas open up a wealth of sightseeing opportunities, and give access to a superb range of beaches, watersports, and the great nightlife only an urban centre can conjure. All holiday accommodation at St. Armands Key is either by the water or a pool, and comes fully equipped with air-conditioning, kitchen and laundry appliances, and satellite or cable TV.
Things to do
-Beaches: The beaches around St. Amands Key holiday rentals are characterised by the pristine white sand and emerald waters commonly associated with the Florida Gulf Coast, and there are upwards of fifty miles to choose from. Nearby public beaches include the highly regarded Siesta Key and South Lido County Park beaches.
-Watersports: With so much beachfront around St. Armands Key holiday homes, marinas and surf shops are never far away. In addition to the usual fishing charters, waterskiing, sightseeing, and wildlife watching, this area of the coast is well known for its surfing, particularly on North Jetty Park Beach to the south.
-Nightlife: There's the usual collection of beach shacks and casual pubs to be had in St. Armands Key itself, though for a more diverse selection of eateries and party spots, the bustling town of Sarasota is only a short drive over the causeway, on the mainland.
-Nature: Aside from all the coastal fishing and nature watching options, Myakka River State Park just down the coast provides an Everglades experience. The park is one of the oldest in Florida, and is great for camping, wildlife watching and fishing, as well as hiking, mountain biking, kayaking and canoeing.
-Golf: Golfing on the beach? Not quite, but as near as you can get. The 45 holes of the Longboat Key Golf Club are within walking distance of the rentals on St. Armands Key, though hiking across the bridges may not be the wisest idea. It's a beautiful course, though technically unchallenging, so it's suitable for all ages.
Weather in St. Armands Key
Shorts and flip-flops constitute the unofficial uniform of Florida, and can be quite comfortably worn year round. With so much water from the coast and the Everglades, temperatures remain moderated in both the dry (winter) and wet (summer) seasons, with the subtropical heat rarely topping 35°C. Winters are far more in line with British summers, with temperatures in the mild to low-20s and little rainfall.
Travel to St. Armands Key
Sarasota/Brandenton International Airport is right there in the city, though it doesn't offer direct flights to Europe, so one or more connections will have to be made to exploit its convenience. A better bet for fly/drive is Tampa International Airport, about an hour's drive to the north. Sarasota does have a fairly efficient bus system, but using public transport is generally an inconvenient way to get around because pedestrianism is such an alien concept to most Americans. The US is designed to be driven, and Florida especially so.
