Make a holiday apartment in Ruskin your home away from home

Ruskin holiday rentals from HomeAway are perfectly placed to access the beaches of Tampa Bay, the wildlife of some rather unique nature preserves, and the golf courses that make Florida a famous destination for the game. Your apartment or villa in Ruskin is also convenient for exploring the iconic Florida Everglades. All Ruskin rental accommodation is fully equipped with modern conveniences to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Washer/dryers and automatic dishwashers take care of mundane tasks, while satellite or cable TV systems, augmented by a DVD player, make sure you're entertained after a hard day enjoying yourself. All rentals in Ruskin are air-conditioned, and a select few have wheelchair access.

Things to do

-Outdoor activities: For kayaking, canoeing, boating, nature watching and fishing, your holiday accommodation in Ruskin is right by the Cockroach Bay Preserve State Park. These mangrove forest coves and inlets are a unique habitat for many kinds of game fish, and submerged ecosystems such as coral beds, seagrass, oyster bars and spring-fed caves lend the flora and fauna tremendous diversity.

-Beaches: There are a few small local beaches to enjoy, but for the big stretches (as far as the eye can see-style) that make Florida famous, you have to either drive or boat a short way out of Tampa Bay to the Gulf Coast proper at either Sarasota or the west side of the St. Petersburg peninsula.

-Nightlife: Nightlife is a little subdued in Ruskin. There are plenty of bars and especially restaurants to choose from (many of which are family friendly) and one lonesome nightclub; but, being so close to the metropolis of Tampa Bay, a short drive, or even boat ride, gets you anywhere your tastes fancy.

-Golf: There are more than enough golf courses near Ruskin to satiate even the most ravenous golfing appetite. Sun City, a community adjacent to Ruskin, is seemingly created specifically for golf, with at least a dozen golf courses in the immediate vicinity.

-Watersports: With two marinas in Ruskin itself, a town of only 17,000 people, and two more just up the road in adjacent Apollo Beach, you'll be able to choose the deal that suits you for waterskiing, fishing and boating. There's plenty to see and do on the water, but this coast has the unique bonus of Cockroach Bay to explore.

Weather in Ruskin

St. Petersburg, about ten miles across the bay from Ruskin, is often referred to as "The Sunshine City" for its 361 days of sun per year. Ruskin isn't much different, so year-round tourism is the way this region rolls. Summers are long and hot, with temperatures topping 30°C, while winters are much more like British summers, typically topping 20°C. Rain falls mainly during summer thunderstorms, primarily as a result of the humidity with so much water around.

Travel to Ruskin

Tampa international Airport is 30 miles from Ruskin: this takes about 40 minutes to drive if you hire a car, which is by far the best bet for getting around. You could feasibly taxi or shuttle to your HomeAway accommodation, hire a boat if you intend to spend most of your time on the water, and get around on land using the rather limited bus service; but though doable, this isn't recommended. The city of Tampa has Amtrak and Greyhound stations, but these are national networks rather than local.

Little Harbor

5 of 5
We enjoyed our time at little harbor, the town home was just as pictured. Thank you for helping us book last minute. We will be returning for sure. Everything you would need is here!! My children enjoyed the fishing pier and the pool. We had dinner at sunset grill and enjoyed the live music and the sunset from our table. Thanks again.

Don't go....

5 of 5
We were disappointed with the property. It was dingy in obvious need of updated paint and a good cleaning. We didn't feel comfortable using the dishes/silverware without washing first. There were only 2 towels per BR......seemed a little cheap... Kitchen needed more .... no cutting board...no cookie/baking sheet pan. Other things.... The master upstairs had blinds missing slats and nothing on one window which made the room way too bright and too warm. One pool was closed and the other cloudy. Very disappointed....definitely will not recommend.
