Stayed 22nd Sept to 6th Oct 2018. Mother & daughter. Felt very safe in this beautiful area. The cottage is in a secluded basin of the Hudson River. The scenery is absolutely stunning. There are 2 cottages on the large plot but fairly private from each other. Our other neighbours were wildlife and plenty of it, hawks, 2 types of woodpecker, a bald eagle, loons, blue jays, red cardinal, other small birds, a wild turkey, muskrat, squirrels, chipmunks, a heron and fish. It was so peaceful and calm. The photos do not do this cottage justice. It was cosy, had a summer porch and an autumn porch (glassed), 2 comfy bedrooms, a small but practical kitchen, fully equipped with starter provisions from David the owner, which were very welcome. There was a portable radiator, which we moved to the bathroom at the back of the property, which made our showers heavenly. There was baseboard heating in the lounge and an electric coal effect fire which made the room very cosy. There were ceiling fans with lights which would be very appreciated in the summer. The cottage had wi-fi which worked. I could actually live here all year round though winter would be cold! Outside there are plenty of chairs, benches, a fire pit, 2 barbecues, all overlooking the calm river. There is also a deck attached to the house and a floating dock with paddle boat and rowboat. The back porch houses the dining area. Do not be put off by the mention of the steep drive. I went up and down here in daylight, fog, rain and darkness. Yes it is steep but in low gear you are fine, It was autumn but the leaves were not a problem, the owner kept the road clear. David, the owner, is most helpful and knowledgeable as he was brought up in the area so knows a lot about it. He is on hand as he lives near the cottage so if you need anything you can reach him easily. He collects the trash each week so if you are in the cottage you will see him then, he just leaves you to it. Had some interesting conversations with him especially about the area. We have stayed at Lake George and Glen Lake in the past but this place surpasses them by far. We have only been back in the UK for 2 days and we have withdrawal symptoms already. We will definitely be staying here again. Though secluded by the river, amenities are only a few minutes away including the I87, gas station with shop/coffee shop and Hanafords supermarket. Thank you David for letting us share your beautiful home and environment. Pat & Helen, UK
