  • Delightful, comfortable cottage in beautiful surroundings

We loved our week at Ty Cariad. The weather might have been disappointing, but the cottage was welcoming, cosy and spacious. The whole house has been renovated, furnished and decorated beautifully. It’s clear that a lot of love and hard work have gone into making this a special retreat for the owners, and we felt that we were in a proper home rather than just a “holiday rental”. All the little details that make life more comfortable have been thought of. I like to cook, and the kitchen, as well as being an attractive room, was really well equipped – quite a contrast from the battered pans and blunt knives I’ve encountered on many holidays. Other daily activities – taking a shower in the sumptuous bathroom, eating breakfast in the stylish dining-room – were made that bit more enjoyable by being in such a lovely space. The cottage is situated high up with distant hill views both from the house itself and the garden (I won’t forget watching the mist drifting up the valley in the early mornings). What was also important to us is that the house and garden are very quiet, private and not overlooked. When you finally drag yourself away from the house, there are amazing landscapes at every turn, and plenty of places for walking - including waterfalls, mountains and reservoirs. There's lots of information (and some interesting books) at the house. Also worth a visit is the lovely (and lively) university town of Aberystwyth, with some great pubs and restaurants (I recommend the Ship & Castle pub for delicious ales and craft beer, and the Spanish deli and tapas bar, Ultracomida, for excellent food and wine).
