Make a holiday cottage in Wincanton your home away from home

Wincanton is a historical town in Somerset which dates back to before the Norman Conquest of 1066. Many battles were fought on the site of the town, and it’s also where the Danes were permanently expelled from the country. Whilst the town’s earliest surviving buildings only date back to the 14th century, it still loves to display its early history through its monuments and preservations. Whether visitors want a lesson in history or culture or just a rural retreat, they can get the comfort they need with a holiday cottage in Wincanton. HomeAway offers a selection of holiday rentals in Wincanton. Each property has all the amenities, and many of the cottages also have their own patios and gardens. The holiday cottages in Wincanton provide a great location for experiencing the town’s and the lovely surrounding areas’ main attractions.

Things to do in Wincanton

Wincanton is a pretty town with excellent shopping and a good range of restaurants and there’s a farmer’s market every first Friday of the month. Wincanton holiday cottages present visitors the opportunity to enjoy the strikingly beautiful Somerset countryside. The town is just 15 miles from Yeovil on the A303, with excellent transport links allowing easy access to the charms of this part of England. Particular areas of note are scenic Blackmore Vale and the Cale River Waterfall.

-Wincanton Racecourse presents some of the region’s best sporting action. The course has a full National Hunt programme -visit in February for the highly important Kingwell Hurdle and the CGA Chase – and is also home to fairs, fetes and community events throughout the year.

-Haynes International Motor Museum is the largest exhibition of iconic cars in the UK. This is a living and working museum which features over 400 motorbikes and cars from the past, including Bentleys and Rolls Royces. As well as this, there’s a selection of today’s supercars, such as the Ferrari 360. It’s a must for any car enthusiast!

-Forde Abbey is an ornate stately home surrounded by an award-winning 30-acre garden. Witness the opening of the spring bulbs and the vast array of colours in autumn. Walk the grounds or browse the art and antique treasures and rich tapestries in the house anytime of the year. Other houses and gardens in the immediate area include Montacute House and Stourhead House. Longleat with its animal park is just about 20 miles away.

-The Discworld Emporium is the ultimate tribute to Terry Prachett’s fantasy novels. Wincanton is actually twinned with Ankh-Morpork, one of the Discworld worlds and it’s the only place in the world where visitors can buy all the books, as well as a selection of limited edition jewellery and prints. Book in advance to ensure entry.

-Wincanton Golf Course is a 9-hole golf course which doubles up to 18 holes. It offers a layout which challenges the best golfers and allows novices to get acquainted with the game. It’s close to holiday cottages in Wincanton and equipment hire is available for people without their own clubs.

Wincanton shares the same temperate climate as the rest of South West England. Visitors can expect pleasant average temperatures of 21°C the months of July and August and for the rest of the year, it’s generally mild and rainfall is much lower than the rest of England. This makes holiday homes in Wincanton the ideal choice for a summer getaway.

Full of character, a charming cottage!!

5 of 5
We really enjoyed our stay at Panniers Farm. We were made to feel very comfortable and enjoyed exploring what the farm had to offer including the homemade cider which was delicious. The cottage itself was perfect for two people and had everything we needed, being able to bring the dog was a bonus. Would recommend a short walk to the Pheasant Inn, food was excellent! Thanks for a brilliant stay, we hope to come back again!!

Fabulous house in a fabulous location

5 of 5
A charmingly beautiful house with all the trimmings. A perfect blend of classic 18th century thatched farm house with all the modern technology you could need. Super fast broadband meaning we could happily stream multiple fire sticks which meant the kids were extremely happy! The oil fired aga was a dream and cooked the perfect breakfasts and dinners. An amazing garden and not so little island for the dog to fully enjoy as if in the fields. Large and comfy rooms but sticking to the classic theme and the beds were just as comfy too. Lots of rickety and uneven floors which simple are authentic for the age of this farm house. A truly fabulous house which feels like it's in the middle of nowhere but in fact is so close to everything it's very handy. Great little farm shop 50meters up the road.
